The Aprilia SR 150 will go on sale across the country by end-August, 2016, carrying a price-tag of Rs 65,000 (ex-showroom).
Production of the hot new Aprilia SR 150 moto-scooter has commenced in India. Piaggio Group – the parent company of the Aprilia brand – rolled out the first unit of the scooter from its Baramati plant in Maharashtra recently. The Aprilia SR 150 will go on sale across the country by end of this month, carrying an introductory price-tag of Rs 65,000 (ex-showroom).
The SR 150 marks Aprilia’s entry into the affordable scooter segment of the country. Although Aprilia does not want it to be classified as a scooter – as per the company, it’s a ‘crossover’ bike. And you can’t deny that it looks more striking and sportier in comparison to other scooters on the market. We recently took the Aprilia SR 150 for a short spin around Coimbatore (read - Aprilia SR 150 Review) and we’ve to say that we came back impressed with the scooter as well as with Aprilia’s ‘crossover’ concept.
Powering the SR 150 is the same 154.4cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that comes with the Vespa 150. It develops 11.4bhp @ 7,000rpm and 11.5Nm of peak torque @ 5,500rpm. Power is transmitted to the rear wheel via a CVT automatic.
Commenting on the roll out of the Aprilia SR 150, Mr. Stefano Pelle, Managing, Director and CEO, Piaggio India, said, “With the roll out of the Aprilia SR 150, it is indeed a proud moment for us here at the Piaggio group. The first India made Aprilia only reiterates our India commitment. The SR 150 is a one of its kind from the Aprilia stable, especially since this bike is customized for the Indian market and produced locally. The crossover segment in India is in its nascent stage and we are yet to see its full potential; with the Aprilia SR 150 we aim to capitalize on this opportunity. Aprilia worldwide is known for its racing heritage and we have packed some of the superbikes abilities like performance and handling in this compact SR 150.”
The Aprilia SR 150 will be made available through Piaggio’s dealership network across the country. In Pune, Chennai, Kochi and Hyderabad it will be sold from the company’s Motoplex outlets. Initially, it will be offered in two paint options - matte black and white. Bookings are open for the Aprilia SR 150 through Paytm.
