22Kymco reveals their first model line-up that is slated to be launched in September 2019 with prices ranging between Rs. 90,000 to Rs. 2.30 lakh, on-road New Delhi.

Taiwanese two wheeler manufacturer Kymco in collaboration with Twenty Two Motors of India under their partnership today have revealed three scooters that will form their product line-up when they begin their India operations in September 2019 under the company name 22Kymco.

The scooters in question are the electric iFlow scooter, the 150cc Like 150 scooter and their flagship model, the 276cc X-Town 300i scooter. The iFlow will be the company's entry-level model with an on-road price tag of Rs. 90,000. The Like 150 will retail at Rs. 1.30 lakh (on-road) while the X-Town 300i ABS will be priced at Rs. 2.30 lakh (on-road).

22Kymco states that the USP of their electric scooter – the iFlow is that of it being a high quality electric scooter that is positioned over other electric offerings in the Indian market space at the moment. While we are yet to see how Indian buyers react to an electric scooter at that price point, it has to be said that 22Kymco has an organisation has a very realistic approach towards electric mobility. Company executives make no bones on talking about range anxiety and have clearly stated that real world range on a fully charged single battery will be about 25-30 kilometres. But 22Kymco has an ace up its sleeve, for the iFlow has slots for two batteries that can be connected at the same time, which simply doubles its range. And if that’s not enough, the company will be operating a significant number of charging stations across the six cities where it will begin sales during the first part of its operations. The news gets even better, for you can simply ride up to one of these charging stations and swap out our drained battery for a fully charged one. You can, of course, use a fast charger located at the charging station as well.

22Kymco will be charging a subscription fee on the batteries and owners will not be charged for the battery at the time of purchasing their electric scooter. Company executives state that the average life span depending on usage will be about 5 years for its lithium ion battery packs used in the iFlow.

“For us, India is one of our most important markets and we are very excited about entering India’s thriving two-wheeler market to explore its promising market potential. With the country’s strong policy framework that encourages e-mobility in a big way, electric awareness and consumer purchase intent towards e-vehicles in India is witnessing a paradigm shift. Given the encouraging e-mobility environment here, we are certain that our unified mobility solution is sure to ‘make it big in India’. Combining Kymco’s 55-year old legacy in the automotive world with 22Motors’ expertise in the Indian market, 22Kymco makes for a stronger team together. We look forward to an exciting journey that will shape India’s e-mobility revolution,” said, Allen Ko, Chairman – Kymco.

Coming to the more traditional ICE powered models, the X-Town 300i sure looks the part with its large dimensions and large projector lights up front. Its single cylinder, liquid cooled engine is good for 24bhp and 25Nm of peak torque. It weighs 200kg, has a 12.5-litre fuel tank and disc brakes at the front and rear. Considering that this is a maxi scooter, it has a huge under-seat storage area that can store two full-face helmets.

The Like 150 meanwhile is a more traditional offering, it is a retro styled scooter that has a 13bhp engine with 11.8Nm of peak torque. It has a 7 litre fuel tank and weighs in at 115kg. Like the 300i, it gets disc brakes at the front and rear.

Parveen Kharb, CEO and Co-Founder – 22Motors, commented on the product range by saying, “22Kymco realized that there is a significant need gap in the Indian two-wheeler market since customers are increasingly opting for premium high-end scooters, but the lack of options in the product category are driving scooter consumers away. Our range of offerings ensures that we have a product for every rider type on the street. The range of Maxi scooters will fill this need gap for this set of audience. Besides this, the dialogue on the electrification of vehicles in India has picked up pace like never before and electric vehicles are the future. All our actions are focused in the direction of building a strong electric mobility ecosystem in India and our customers continue to remain at the forefront of our strategy.”

22Kymco will initially begin their operations in six metro cities, namely, New Delhi, Bangalore, Pune, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Ahmedabad. Over the next three years the company aims to operate 300 touch points across the country. The 22Kymco manufacturing facility is located in Bhiwadi, Haryana. It has an annual production capacity of 200,000 units and will manufacture the iFlow, Like 150 and X-Town 300i.
