The brand-new Svartpilen 801 has been revealed for international markets by Husqvarna Motorcycles. A larger sibling to the smaller 125 and 401 models, the 2024 model takes the place of the single-cylinder Svartpilen 701. The motorcycle's fairly modern scrambler look seems to take major styling inspirations from the Svartpilen 401 and the Vitpilen series, which are being manufactured in India. The bike boasts a crisp and neo-retro design that is more subdued and elegant than the aggressive and sharp lines of the KTM 790 Duke, on which it is based. Though it's unclear if or when the Svartpilen 801 will arrive in India, it is anticipated to be on sale in Europe in June 2024.
2024 Husqvarna Svartpilen 801: Mechanical Details
As mentioned, the 801 supersedes the Svartpilen 701, bringing a twin-cylinder engine instead of a single-cylinder unit. A peak torque of 87Nm at 8,000rpm and 103.5bhp of maximum power at 9,250rpm are churned out by the 799cc, parallel-twin, liquid-cooled motor taken from the KTM 790 Duke. A six-speed gearbox handles the transmission duties.
2024 Husqvarna Svartpilen 801: Hardware Components
On the hardware front, the Premium WP Apex suspension is on offer, comprising a rear shock with adjustable preload and rebound with 150mm of travel and an adjustable fork with 140mm of travel for compression and rebound damping. Furthermore, to maximise traction during acceleration and provide stability during heavy braking, a Power Assist Slipper Clutch (PASC) is mated to the gearbox. Clutchless up and downshifts are also possible with Husqvarna's Easy Shift.
2024 Husqvarna Svartpilen 801: Rider Aids
Three adjustable riding modes—Street, Rain, and Sport—traction control, cornering ABS, and more are included in the electronics package. Moreover, a Dynamic Pack with an optional feature that balances the throttle to counteract excessive engine braking is available. For added safety, there is also an anti-wheelie option that lowers the maximum wheelie angle. More seasoned riders can also use the Supermoto ABS mode. Other amenities include a ride-by-wire throttle with adjustable response, a quickshifter, and a five-inch TFT display featuring turn-by-turn navigation, phone call alerts, and smartphone connectivity.
2024 Husqvarna Svartpilen 801: Will it Come to India?
KTM introduced the 790 Duke in India, but it was later discontinued without an updated version. Consequently, the chances of the Husqvarna Svartpilen 801 (derived from the KTM 790 Duke) arriving here seem slim. The upcoming model will be a fierce competitor to the Triumph Scrambler 900, the Kawasaki Z900RS, and the Ducati Scrambler Icon if it ever makes it to our market. Meanwhile, the 801 costs USD 10,899 (about Rs 9.06 lakh) in the US. For the uninitiated, the latest Husqvarna launch in India comes in the form of the Svartpilen 401 which is modelled after the well-liked KTM 390 Duke.
