One of Suzuki's sharpest weapons, the Katana has arrived in India!
Suzuki has launched the Katana in India. The motorcycle comes to our shores via the CKD route with prices starting at Rs 13.61 lakh (ex-showroom).
The modern Katana is powered by a 999cc inline-four engine, which was seen on the K5 GSX-R1000. For those unaware, the same engine also powers the GSX-S1000. For the new model year, the company has tweaked the engine with new camshafts and valve springs along with updates to the airbox and exhaust system. It outputs 148bhp and 106Nm of torque.
The Katana gets Suzuki's Intelligent Ride System (S.I.R.S.) which comes with a variety of advanced electronic control systems including traction control, drive mode selector, ride-by-wire electronic throttle system and low RPM assist.
The traction control system comes with 5 mode settings (+ OFF). The new Drive Mode Selector (SDMS) provides choice between three different modes that change output characteristics — especially when turning the throttle grip from a slightly open position to when it reaches the top of the mid-speed range under acceleration to match riding conditions or preferences. Similarly, the low RPM assist suppresses engine stalls and helps ensure better control and operation in stop-and-go traffic.
In terms of cycle parts, the motorcycle gets a fully-adjustable USD fork at the front and a monoshock at the rear, which can be adjusted for preload and rebound damping. The bike's braking duties are handled by radial Brembo callipers on 310mm discs. The Katana also gets an LCD display, which is not only more basic than the TFT units of most new bikes but also lacks Bluetooth connectivity.
