The Honda CB300R is making a comeback. But thins time with a BS6 tuned powerplant. The launch is likely to be held this month and Honda could surprise us with its pricing!
Honda two-wheelers has confirmed that the CB300R will be the brand’s first launch of the year 2022. The motorcycle will sport some changes mainly in the engine department; however, the styling will largely be similar to the predecessor model.
Following are a few things we’re expecting from the upcoming Honda CB300R:
Pricing
The Honda CB300R which was launched some years ago was introduced via the CKD route. This time around, the 2022 model year of the CB300R is expected to be locally produced. This is likely to help Honda reduce the cost of the 2022 CB300R. Local manufacturing will also help Honda reduce the maintenance cost of the motorcycle; however, the Honda 2022 CB300R will retail via Honda’s Big Wing outlets only. Expect the price to be in the Rs 2.20-2.35 lakh (ex-showroom) range.
Specifications
A leaked document online has confirmed that the 2022 CB300R will produce 30.7bhp at 9,000rpm, which is marginally lower than the BS4 model. Honda has tuned the engine to adhere to the stringent BS6 norms, which has resulted in a marginal drop in power. The engine design, displacement and gearbox will be unchanged.
Features
The Honda CB350 H’ness features a traction control system which is very thoughtful of the motorcycle maker despite the CB350 being a 20bhp motorcycle. However, this feature is likely to be forwarded to the upcoming CB300R with its 30bhp power plant. Other features such as a backlit LED instrument cluster, ride-by-wire, dual-channel ABS are likely to be carried forward.
Rivals
The key rival to the street naked motorcycle will be the KTM 390 Duke. Motorcycles such as the BMW G310R, Bajaj Dominar 400 and TVS Apache RR310 will be in close proximity of the upcoming 300cc Japanese street-naked. The upcoming Royal Enfield Scram 411, which is an in fact a more road-biased Himalayan will also rival the upcoming Honda CB300R.
