KTM 1290 Super Duke has been taken a notch above and the Austrian motorcycle makers have slapped an RR badge on it. Read the following for more details to see if the Super Duke does justice to its RR badge or not
KTM 1290 Super Duke has been unveiled and what’s so special about the motorcycle that peaks our interest you ask? It is indeed the RR badge that it carries and also packs equipment that could help it punch above its weight. Interestingly, the 1290 Super Duke is the first KTM to sport an ‘RR’ badge ever. KTM has also maintained its exclusivity by limiting its run to 500 units and making it available only in the European market. The motorcycle can be booked on KTM's online portal and the pre-bookings will commence from April 8, 10:00hrs CET.
The heart of the matter:
KTM 1290 Super Duke RR gets the same 1,301cc V-twin engine that puts out 177bhp and 140Nm or torque. The motorcycle has also gone on a diet and shed 9kg - thanks to the carbon-fiber subframe, body panels and wheels that are lighter by 1.5kg each. The motorcycle now tips the scale at 180kg and with a power output of 177bhp (180hp), the Super Duke RR gets a power-to-weight ratio of 1:1.
The suspension units have been upgraded too, fully adjustable WP APEX PRO 7548 Close Cartridge forks in the front and an APEX PRO 7746 mono-shock at the rear. The steering damper is a APEX PRO 7117 sourced from WP as well. The light weight wheels are shod with Michelin Power Cup2 tires. The motorcycle also comes with an optional lightweight AKRAPOVIČ slip-on exhaust system along with a host of KTM powerparts accessories.
The electronic package has been upgraded from the standard 1290 Super Duke and the RR model offers a wide range of adjustability for rear-wheel slip, throttle response, Launch Control, and Motor Slip Regulation. Another tweak that is included is the throttle action - the 72-degree rotation of the standard model has been reduced to 65-degree which in turn will reduce the rider’s wrist angle and elbow drop while gunning for faster track times at full-clip.
