Tata Altroz EV to be Launched in India in 2025
With comparable battery pack sizes (25kWh-35kWh) and ARAI-certified ranges (315 to 421 kilometre), the Tata Altroz EV is anticipated to be similar to the Punch EV, drawing inspiration from the Acti.EV architecture.
Tata Motors is stepping up its production of electric vehicles (EVs), with the eagerly awaited Altroz EV scheduled for a launch in India next year. This is part of the homegrown automaker's ambitious plan to add four more battery-powered vehicles to its line-up by 2025. After overcoming several developmental obstacles, the Altroz EV, which made its premiere at the 2020 Auto Expo and the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, is finally ready for its official launch. For those who are unaware, the model faced issues related to the positioning of the battery pack underneath the floor, resulting in a 20mm decrease in its ground clearance, to 145mm. The conundrum was whether to raise the Altroz to compensate for the decreased ground clearance, potentially resulting in a crossover-like appearance and thereby compromising the car’s original stance. The issue impeded the development of the electric vehicle and made it impossible to be launched before the Nexon EV.

Tata Motors Confirms the Launch Timeline
The Altroz EV is now slated to arrive in the domestic market in 2025, according to the most recent update, which also reveals that Tata Motors has effectively resolved the battery packaging issue. ‘Punch is the first one, Curvv will come next,’ said Shailesh Chandra, MD of Tata Motors' Passenger Vehicles Business, during the Tata Punch EV launch a few days ago. ‘Harrier will also come by the end of this calendar year. Then we would have Sierra and Altroz coming in 2025,’ Chandra added.
Tata Altroz EV: Expected Powertrain
Given that the Altroz EV is based on the same platform and architecture as the Punch EV, it’s likely to have a similarly-sized battery pack as well. So, it wouldn’t be surprising to see that the higher-spec models will have a 35kWh battery pack, with a driving range of 421km and a motor output rated at 122bhp. Similarly, the more affordable models are likely to be outfitted with a 25kWh battery pack, with a claimed driving range of about 315km and a maximum power output of 82bhp.
Tata Altroz EV: Price
With the Altroz EVs, Tata Motors intends to target a different audience, thereby reducing any potential sales competition with the Punch EV, even though there may be a price overlap between the two – the former may cost anything between Rs 10.99 lakh and Rs 15.49 lakh, ex-showroom.
