Change CarTata Altroz EV Preview
The Tata Altroz is a compact car that has been running on Indian roads for quite some time. The manufacturer is now planning to bring its EV version to the market that’s largely based on the fossil-fuelled counterpart.
It seems like Tata Motors has taken it personally and has decided to singlehandedly populate the EV atmosphere in India. After the Nexon EV and the Tigor EV, Tata is gearing up with an all-electric version of the new Altroz hatchback.
Below is an overview of the features and specifications of this upcoming electric car.
Tata Altroz EV Engine and Other Specifications
This electric hatchback is expected to be driven by the same powertrain as the Nexon EV. It means that the car would be powered by a single 95kW electric motor powering the front wheels. It should draw energy from a 30.2kWh lithium-ion battery that would provide a similar driving range to the above-mentioned EVs. Tata Motors has stated that the Altroz would exceed Tata Nexon’s ARAI-certified 312 km range. The new Altroz EV is also claimed to charge 80% from 0 in about an hour when plugged into a fast charger.
This Tata electric car shall utilize the brand’s Ziptron technology which uses a permanent magnet AC motor. As mentioned earlier, it would power the front wheels via a single-speed gearbox. The other specifications of the vehicle shall be similar to those of the petrol-powered version of the car. The suspension setup shall incorporate an independent MacPherson dual-path strut with a coil spring in the front. The rear suspension should be a twist beam with coil springs and shock absorbers. The wheels could be made of steel for lower variants and alloy for the higher variants. On the braking front, it should boast front disc and rear drum brakes, providing precise stopping power.
Tata Altroz EV Exterior
Regarding the design, the Altroz EV does not have much to differentiate it from its non-EV sibling. The available pictures suggest that it gets an exclusive Teal Blue body paint with some blue accents. The hatchback further features a redesigned front air-dam, revolutionizing its aesthetics and performance for an unparalleled driving experience. The lack of a tailpipe gives away its electric heritage as well.
Tata Altroz EV Interior
The cabin of this upcoming car seems a little roomier, thanks to the absence of a mechanical gearbox and lever. The gear-selector dial seems to be in the front of the armrest. The centre console shall be split into two parts and a floating cubby space on the dashboard shall be there. Some storage issues will be resolved by this dashboard space.
Tata Altroz EV Safety Features
In terms of safety, the Tata Altroz EV shall be provided with essential and a few advanced safety features. It should include two airbags, child seat anchor points, and an antilock braking system with an electronic brake-force distribution system. A central locking system, an engine immobilizer, speed-sensing door locks, and a child safety lock shall also be included.
Tata Altroz EV Launch Date and Expected Price
The Tata Altroz EV price is likely to be between Rs. 12 lakhs to Rs. 15 lakhs, ex-showroom, Delhi. It is expected to be offered in the Indian market by the end of the next year. This EV commuter might save quite a lot when calculating the EV’s running cost and the skyrocketing fuel prices. With the mentioned pricing, this upcoming Tata car would compete with Citroen eC3 and MG Comet EV.
