Upcoming Skoda Subcompact SUV to be Called Kylaq
Skoda has picked the name 'Kylaq' for its upcoming SUV. The subcompact SUV Kylaq will compete with the Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Nissan Magnite, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, and Kia Sonet in the Indian market.
The much-awaited subcompact SUV from Skoda now has a name – 'the Kylaq' – which is derived from the Sanskrit word for crystal. As previously reported, the carmaker conducted a 'Name Your Skoda' campaign to invite name suggestions from the public. It required that the name may only have two syllables and begin and conclude with the letters 'K' and 'Q', respectively. With over a lakh entries and thousands of different names, the company shortlisted ten monikers, including Kariq, Kylaq, Kliq, Kyroq, and Kwiq. Among these, the name 'Kylaq' finally emerged as the winner.

For the uninitiated, the Skoda Kylaq will officially mark its entry into India's subcompact SUV segment in 2025. It will compete against the Tata Nexon, the Kia Sonet, the Hyundai Venue, and the Mahindra XUV 3XO. For more details on the upcoming Skoda model, read on.
Skoda Kylaq: Engine
The SUV will be based on the MQB A0-IN platform, which also underpins cars like the Slavia, Taigun, and Kushaq. Notably, this platform is specifically developed for India. Although Skoda has not made an official statement, the Kylaq is speculated to have the same 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder TSI petrol engine as the Slavia and Kushaq. This unit develops 114bhp and 175Nm paired with a six-speed MT or a six-speed AT.
Skoda Kylaq: Design and Features
For now, the exact styling details are unknown, but the Skoda Kylaq is expected to get split LED headlamps, a new grille, an aggressive bonnet, and inverted L-shaped LED taillights, based on previous teasers. It is likely to include a wireless phone charger, a fully digital driver’s display, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control, and a sunroof, among other features. The Skoda car may come equipped with a 360-degree camera, electronic stability control (ESC), ISOFIX child seat mounts, up to six airbags, and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) for safety.

Skoda Kylaq: Expected Price
Price-wise, the Skoda Kylaq is predicated to ask somewhere between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom).
