Next-gen Skoda Kodiaq SUV Powertrain Figures Revealed Ahead of Global Debut; Claims Over 100Km Electric Range

The Skoda Kodiaq SUV, with a generational update, will reportedly mark its official global debut by the end of 2023. In our market, Skoda currently offers the facelifted first-generation Kodiaq with a price tag that ranges between Rs 37.99 lakh and Rs 41.39 lakh. Both are ex-showroom figures. As of now, there is no official confirmation from the automaker, but according to market reports, the India-bound version of the redesigned Kodiaq SUV will expectedly enter the market sometime next year. In a recent development, the Czech automaker teased the model ahead of its global unveil and shed light on the powertrain specs. It also revealed a range of improvements for the SUV, including increased interior space, a plug-in hybrid version, and more. Let's take a glance at all the official updates about the SUV, which will likely debut later this year in the international market.

Next-gen Skoda Kodiaq SUV: Powertrain
Internationally, according to the Czech carmaker, the SUV gets two petrol and diesel engines. Aside from this, the updated SUV gets the Kodiaq iV, the first plug-in hybrid in its model range. The 1.5-litre plug-in hybrid will come paired with the 6-speed DSG, capable of delivering a combined output of 201bhp. It gets a 25.7kWh battery pack, which is said to offer more than 100 kilometre of electric range. A 50 kW DC fast charger or an 11 kW AC fast charger can be used to recharge the battery.
Moving to the other engines, the revamped Skoda Kodiaq will have a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol linked to a 7-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmission and an all-wheel drive system, capable of churning out 201bhp. It will also get a 1.5-litre mild hybrid engine coupled with a 7-speed DSG delivering power to the front axle, good enough to make 148bhp of output. There will also be two 2.0-litre diesel engine configurations: FWD and AWD, with 148bhp and 190bhp, respectively.

Speaking of the dimensions, the length of the Kodiaq is 4758mm, which is 61mm longer than the previous iteration. The wheelbase, at 2791mm, is unchanged. It will be available in five-seat and seven-seat configurations. The seven-seater version's boot room volume ranges from 340 litres with the third-row seats upright to 845 litres when they are fully folded. On the other hand, the volume of the five-seater variant is 910 litres, which is 75 litres larger than the five-seater from the last generation Kodiaq SUV.

The Skoda Kodiaq's design remained a secret because it was all covered, but some improvements could be noticed, including a redesigned grille with thicker vertical slats. Outside, the carmaker has retained the split headlamp design but added a matrix LED unit. A radar sensor can be noticed on the front bumper, implying that the revamped model might include an ADAS suite. Aside from this, according to fresh teasers, the SUV gets new taillights and a revised D-pillar.

The redesigned model will include a new 12.9-inch touchscreen, a drive selector positioned on the steering column, a heads-up display, and more. According to the automaker, there will be an 'Intuitive combination of manual and digital controls and new Simply Clever features'.
