Maserati MC20 Cielo Bookings Commence for India

Maserati, the Italian luxury car manufacturer, has begun taking reservations for the MC20 Cielo. The firm announced the same via its official social media handles. Notably, the brand began accepting bookings for the non-convertible MC20 supercar in November last year. The Cielo, along with the coupe and the soon-to-be-unveiled electric variant, is the second of the MC20's three anticipated variations and receives a unique ‘smart glass’ panel in its folding roof. Now, without any further ado, let's quickly take a closer at what this new car has to offer in terms of design, interior, powertrain, and more. Talking about the design, the mid-engined low slung shape of the Maserati MC20 Cielo is similar to that of the MC20 coupe. In less than 12 seconds, the roof can be opened or closed. The car uses a carbon fibre tub with reinforced lower sections to maintain the coupe-like stability of the structure. The butterfly doors have also been kept. Further, the roof mechanism only adds 65 kg to the vehicle's total kerb weight of 1,540 kg.

In terms of powertrain, the new Maserati MC20 Cielo is powered by the same 3.0-litre V6 twin-turbocharged Nettuno engine. The engine produces 630bhp of maximum power and 730Nm of peak torque, with all power directed to the rear wheels via an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission. This is capable of propelling the MC20 Cielo to 100km/h in just 2.9 seconds. Maserati claims a top speed of more than 325km/h.

Coming to the interior of the MC20 Cielo, its cabin is the same as the MC20's. One 10.25-inch screen is used for the infotainment display and the other is used for the instrument panel. Moreover, the car comes equipped with a 12-speaker Sonus Faber audio system. Although prices for the Maserati MC20 Cielo or the MC20 have not yet been disclosed, the Cielo is anticipated to be more expensive than the coupe.

Maserati will launch the Levante hybrid SUV and the MC20 supercar in India this year, with the recently unveiled Grecale SUV likely to follow the following year. The Italian brand plans to increase its dealer network in India in addition to expanding its product line. Currently, it has only two. Under the name MC20 Cielo (Italian for "sky"), it will compete against a variety of highly charged mid-engined convertibles, including the Ferrari 296 GTS, the McLaren 720S Spider, and the Chevrolet Corvette Convertible.
