<p>Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), erstwhile registered as Maruti Udyog Limited, stepped into India in the year 1983. The first ever Maruti Suzuki car in India was the Maruti 800, which went on to become the company’s most prominent model, remembered by countless individuals as the revolution of the Indian car industry.</p>

<p>The Maruti 1000 was an equally important car for the brand. It was introduced in 1989 with a 970cc engine, and was India’s first modern sedan. While the Zen was launched in 1993 with a 993cc engine, Maruti re-introduced its sedan in 1994 with a bigger, 1298cc engine, and called it the Esteem. Since its start of production in 1994, Maruti had produced 1 million vehicles. There was a second plant inaugurated as well, with an annual capacity of 200,000 units. A new Maruti Suzuki car, the&nbsp;800 was launched in 1998 and it sported a brand new design. The Zen diesel was Maruti’s first diesel car for India, and a redesigned Omni was introduced alongside as well. In the year 1999, Maruti launched a three-box saloon, called the Baleno, and the WagonR, which quickly became a favourite among Indian buyers.</p>

<p>Today, Maruti Suzuki cars model list&nbsp;has, what could easily be, one of the largest model portfolios in the country – starting with the Maruti Suzuki Alto, Alto K10, Swift, WagonR, Celerio, Dzire, Brezza, Ertiga, Gypsy, Eeco, Baleno, Ciaz and Ignis. <p>The 2018 Suzuki Swift Sport gains a new turbo-petrol engine, which gives a healthy boost to the car's&nbsp;torque output.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p dir="ltr">Suzuki&nbsp;launched the new generation Swift globally earlier in 2017, and now, the Japanese carmaker has taken the wraps off its sporty avatar - the 2018 Swift Sport, at Frankfurt Motor Show, 2017.</p>

<p dir="ltr">Now in its third generation, the 2018 Suzuki Swift Sport differs quite a bit from its normal sibling. Compared to the standard Swift, the Sport version features a large trapezoidal grille, along with sharp creases surrounding the new large fog lamp housings - which collectively give this hot-hatch a low, wide and aggressive stance. At the rear, there is a new bumper with a sporty black diffuser, and dual exhaust pipes.</p>

<p dir="ltr">The inside of the 2018 Swift Sport features a lot of red accents to elevate the sporty ambience, along with semi-bucket sports seats and Suzuki’s latest infotainment system. The overall layout of the cabin, however, remains quite identical to the standard car. The Swift Sport will also come equipped with advanced safety features like adaptive cruise control and lane departure warning.</p>

<p dir="ltr">The biggest news is what lies under the hood of the 2018 Swift Sport. Suzuki is offering its 1.4-litre Boosterjet turbo-petrol on this car - which develops around 138 horses and 230Nm of twist force. The torque figure on the new car is up by a healthy 70Nm versus the outgoing model, which was powered by a 1.6-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. A 6-speed manual gearbox comes standard.</p>

<p dir="ltr">Furthermore, the 2018 Swift Sport weighs only 970kg, which promises strong performance due to a much improved power-to-weight ratio over the previous model. There is a bespoke suspension, which, according to Suzuki - provides greater driving stability, optimized roll rigidity, and improved dynamic response. Bigger brakes are available on-board too.</p>

<p dir="ltr">The 2018 Suzuki Swift Sport will hit showrooms in the global markets during the summer of 2018. India launch is unlikely in the foreseeable future.</p>

<p>The current generation Maruti Suzuki Swift is on the verge of being replaced, but its maker wants to keep its strong demand intact before the new model arrives next year. So, Maruti has now extended the iCreate customisation programme to the Swift – which was previously only available on Ignis and Vitara Brezza.</p>

<p>This means that those planning to buy a Swift can now personalise their car with a total of 120 exterior &amp; interior colours and designs, along with some accessories. The iCreate configurator is available at all Maruti dealerships, and the accessories will be fitted by the company’s trained staff.</p>

<p>On the outside, <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/maruti-suzuki/">Maruti Suzuki</a> offers roof wraps, garnishes for headlamps, grill &amp; tailgate, spoilers &amp; body kits, alloy wheels, window frame kits, and much more. For interior customisation options under the iCreate programme, Maruti offers ten seat cover options, neck and back cushions, designer floor mats, transparent floor mats and steering wheel covers. The flocking kit for the interior is also offered to liven up the cabin. Furthermore, a styling kit – which adds wooden trim to the dashboard, central air vents, lower centre console and the door panels are also on offer.</p>

<p>Some functional add-on accessories which are offered include a tyre pressure monitoring system, an 8.0-litre cool box, logo projector puddle lamps, pedal pads, front centre armrest, and most importantly – the same 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system from the bigger Marutis – which offers a host of connectivity options.</p>

<p>There are no changes under the hood though – which means that the Swift comes powered by a 1.2-litre K-Series petrol engine that makes 84bhp of power and 115Nm of torque, and 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine that produces 75bhp and 190Nm. A 5-speed manual gearbox remains the sole transmission option.</p>

<p>The <a href="https://www.autox.com/reviews/car-reviews/2021-maruti-suzuki-swift-review-first-drive-109196/">Maruti Suzuki Swif</a>t is priced between Rs. 4.79 lakh – 7.46 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi). The additional cost under the iCreate programme is subject to the number of options availed.</p>

<p>Suzuki has officially confirmed that the Sport avatar of the latest generation Swift (yet to be launched in India) will mark its global debut on September 12, 2017 - at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The Japanese company claims that the model has ‘undergone a complete redesign and delivers an all-new level of excitement for sport-minded drivers across the world.’</p>

<p>Alongside the official reveal date, Suzuki also released an image of the upcoming sporty hatchback, completely revealing its front fascia. Compared to the standard Swift, the Sport version will feature a large trapezoidal grille - reminiscent of that on the <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/hyundai/">Hyundai</a> Veloster. Sharp creases surround the new large fog lamp housings, giving a rather wide stance to the car. The image also reveals the new machine finished alloy wheels.</p>

<p>Suzuki, for the time being, has shied away from sharing any other details of the Swift Sport. However, it is highly speculated that Suzuki could put its latest 1.4-litre Boosterjet turbo-petrol motor under the latest Swift Sport’s bonnet, which develops around 140 horses and 220Nm of torque. This is the same motor which powers Suzuki’s international spec Vitara SUV. The previous iteration of the Swift Sport was powered by a 1.6-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine.</p>

<p>It has always been up the rumour mill that the Swift Sport will launch in India - but the day is yet to come. In recent years, India has shown inclination towards performance hatchbacks, with cars like Polo GT, Abarth Punto and Suzuki’s own <a href="https://www.autox.com/reviews/car-reviews/2022-maruti-suzuki-baleno-first-drive-review-110815/">Baleno RS</a> hitting the market.</p>

<p>However, with the more premium Baleno’s India spec RS version being far less powerful than this Swift Sport, it remains to be seen how Maruti will position a 140bhp Swift in the market. If it launches at all, that is. &nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>The latest iteration of the Suzuki Swift gets a new version in Japan.</strong></p>

<p>Suzuki Motor has unveiled a new hybrid variant of its popular Swift hatchback in its home country - Japan. Now, this is a full-blown hybrid, not the SHVS mild hybrid that <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/maruti-suzuki/">Maruti Suzuki</a> offers in India - which is essentially a start-stop system.</p>

<p>This means that the Swift gets an onboard electric motor coupled with a conventional petrol engine. The 1.2-litre petrol engine develops 91bhp and the electric setup pushes out 10kW (13.4bhp) of power. A 5-speed automatic gearbox transmits power to the front wheels.</p>

<p>The hybrid system present is capable of shutting off the petrol engine and transferring the propulsion duties to the electric motor when the car is either coasting or crawling in heavy traffic. Suzuki has installed a power pack with the electric motor, which consists of a 100V battery and an inverter. This power pack, in addition to supplying power to the electric motor, also charges the electricity generated by it - using decelerating energy. This results in a combined fuel consumption of 32km/l.</p>

<p>Also standard are two driving modes - one that prioritises fuel economy, and other which focuses on energetic driving. The Swift hybrid will be offered in Japan in two versions - SG and SL. The latter is the higher-spec version, which offers advanced safety features. These include Dual Sensor Brake Support collision mitigation system - &nbsp;it features a monocular camera and laser sensor to detect pedestrians and vehicles ahead, and additional airbags. Paddle shifts too come standard on the SL trim.</p>

<p>The Suzuki Swift Hybrid is based on the latest generation Swift, which is due in India by late 2017 - early 2018. It is based on the same ‘Heartect’ platform that underpins the <a href="https://www.autox.com/reviews/car-reviews/2022-maruti-suzuki-baleno-first-drive-review-110815/">Baleno</a> and the recently launched new Dzire.</p>

<p>With hybrid vehicles losing all the benefits of the now discontinued FAME scheme in India, its very unlikely that the Swift Hybrid will arrive on Indian shores. Maruti Suzuki has already seen the prices of its SHVS mild hybrid cars shoot up by as much as Rs. 1.5 lakh post GST implementation.</p>

<p>Usually, when a made-for-India car goes for Euro NCAP crash tests, the end results are mostly distressing, to say the least. But, with Indian consumers now becoming more aware than ever, car manufacturers can no longer afford to short-change buyers and get away with it. And this means new products are expected to perform well in the safety department.</p>

<p>Now the latest car that’s been crash tested by NCAP is none other than the country’s beloved hatchback, the Swift, in its all-new avatar. The brand new hatchback received a 3-star rating from Euro NCAP.&nbsp;The 2017 Swift that was crash tested was a 1.2-litre petrol variant that came equipped with six airbags, seat-belt tensioners and ISOFIX rear child seat mounts. The test results reveal the car scored 83 per cent for adult occupants safety, 75 per cent for child occupants, 69 per cent for pedestrians and 25 per cent for safety assist (seat belt reminder &amp; other warning alarms).</p>

<p>According to the statement released by Euro NCAP regarding the new Swift’s performance, the passenger compartment of the car remained stable in the frontal offset test with good protection of the knees and femurs of both the driver and passenger. Tests on the front seats and head restraints showed good protection against whiplash injuries in the event of a rear-end collision, but the rear seats indicated poor whiplash protection for passengers at the back. NCAP also crash tested another model of the new Swift that came fitted with optional “Radar Brake Support”. Because of the optional safety pack’s autonomous emergency braking system, the car scored 4 stars.</p>

<p>The next-gen Swift is based on the firm’s latest and lighter ‘Heartect’ platform that also underpins the <a href="https://www.autox.com/reviews/car-reviews/2022-maruti-suzuki-baleno-first-drive-review-110815/">Baleno</a>, Ignis and the recently launched DZire in India. The new Swift will enter our market in 2018, and will be powered by the same 1.2-litre petrol and 1.3-litre diesel engines like the current model. However, from the safety point of view, there’s still a big question mark over its credentials...</p>

<p>You see, the India-spec version is unlikely to come with six airbags or the optional safety pack with autonomous emergency braking. Instead, it’s likely to come with dual airbags and ABS as standard just like the new DZire. Also, do keep in mind the fact that the new Swift that has scored 3 stars in NCAP rating is Euro-spec. And if memory serves you right, then you might recall that the last-generation Swift sold in Europe scored full 5 stars in crash tests, whereas, the same car sold in India (without airbags) was awarded a big fat zero. Most importantly, though, the India-spec Swift's bodyshell was rated unstable in the event of a crash. Now, all we can&nbsp;hope is that this is not the case with the upcoming model.</p>

<p>Ever since the launch of the Maruti Suzuki Swift in India more than a decade ago, the car has been consistent on the sales charts. MSIL then introduced a new iteration in 2011, which took the legacy forward. However, it has been more than five years since its last update and the car seems to be lagging behind its competitors. Not for long though.</p>

<p>The new Suzuki Swift premiered in Japan a few months back and now the car has made its global debut at the ongoing 2017 Geneva Motor Show. This all-new Swift is expected to be launched in India in the first quarter of 2018 with a possible Indian debut at the Auto Expo.</p>

<p>This new Swift is based on the same platform as the Baleno and the Ignis – so it is safe to assume it to be considerably lighter than the current-gen model. This new platform, ‘Hearttect’ is also likely to be stiffer than what we have experienced on the Baleno. While the international spec model claims to be 10 percent lighter, 19 percent more powerful and 8 percent more fuel efficient, no details of the India-spec model have been revealed as yet. That being said, we expect it to come with the same engine options as the Baleno – 1.2-litre K-Series petrol, 1.0-litre BoosterJet petrol and the tried and tested 1.3-litre diesel.</p>

<p>Premium and contemporary are two words that best describe the new Swift. Up front it gets a larger hexagonal honeycomb grille that is flanked by sharper pulled back headlamps that feature LED Daytime Running Lights. Suzuki has done well to retain the Swift’s signature silhouette while successfully making it fresh. The diamond cut alloy wheels further accentuate the new design of the Swift. At the back, the Swift loses its curvy tailgate in place of a razor-edged one. The taillights too are LED type.</p>

<p>On the inside, the story is somewhat similar thanks to its new sporty appeal. The single-pod instrumentation has been given the boot and in its place, comes a twin-pod unit. In the centre, the new Swift will get the same touchscreen infotainment system as the S-Cross, Baleno and the Brezza. This system will come with navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto aside from Bluetooth, AUX and USB connectivity. In terms of safety, Maruti Suzuki is likely to offer the new Swift with two airbags and ABS as standard fitment.</p>

<p>Maruti Suzuki was initially scheduled to bring in the new Swift towards the end of 2017. That being said, the schedule has now been delayed with the car likely to be launched in the first quarter next year. This new Maruti Suzuki Swift is sure to demand a premium over the current generation model. Competitors, however, will remain the same – Hyundai Grand i10, Ford Figo and the likes.</p>

<p>Maruti Suzuki has launched a limited edition version of the Swift hatchback. Billed as the Swift Deca, the new version will be offered only with the VXi and VDi trims of the hatchback. Highlights of the ‘Deca’ include a new touchscreen multimedia system, exterior body kit and updated seat upholstery along with a number of other ‘sporty’ add-ons.</p>

<p>As per Maruti, the newly launched version ‘’celebrates the charm of football’s most flamboyant players with number 10’’. While the relation between the two may be a bit hard to fathom here, the simple fact is that the Deca edition mainly gets a lot of added features and equipment over the regular car. For example, it now comes equipped with a Sony multimedia touchscreen system with Bluetooth connectivity, exterior body skirting and spoiler, ‘sporty’ seat covers, steering wheel cover, reverse parking assist with camera, some new decals, front arm rest, ambient lighting, etc.</p>

<p>Maruti further claims that the Deca edition comes with benefits worth over Rs 18,000. Mechanically, the car remains unchanged. That means the diesel version comes with the Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre unit while powering the petrol version is the 1.2-litre mill. Both come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. &nbsp;The Swift Deca Edition will be offered in two shades – Bright Red and Orange. The diesel Swift Deca VDi is priced at Rs 6.86 lakh while the petrol Deca VXi gets a price tag of Rs 5.94 lakh (both ex-showroom, Delhi).</p>

<p>Commenting on the launch, Mr. R S Kalsi, Executive Director, Marketing &amp; Sales, Maruti Suzuki, said, “Swift is a sporty, stylish and fun to drive car. Since its launch, it has been one of the best performers in our portfolio and helped us strengthen leadership in premium hatchback segment.&nbsp; Over the years, the Swift has evolved in features, looks and technology, often defining the changes in aspiration and preferences of Indian car customers. The Swift models also account for nearly 30 per cent, or approximately 4.30 lakh units, of annual sales for Maruti Suzuki in India.</p>

<p>After India, the Swift sells the most in Europe with 17 per cent of the total 5 million units dispatched to customers in the region. Japan is the third-biggest market for the Swift with 10 per cent of the total sales coming in from its home country.</p>

<p>Reportedly, Suzuki is currently developing the third-generation Swift which is likely to go on sale sometime around 2017. The new model is expected to go on sale in India first.</p>

<p>Images of the upcoming new 2017 Suzuki Swift have surfaced online. Apparently the images were being used for official purposes by the company at a select showcase when they were leaked. While that is that when it comes to the legitimacy of the images, just a look is enough to tell you that the car here indeed bears resemblance to the trademark design of the Swift with a tall windscreen with black A-pillars, a roof that slopes downwards towards the rear giving the rear doors smaller windows. While the basic silhouette remains similar, the new car appears to have lost its sharper lines for more rounded design elements.</p>

<p>The front of the car sees raised aprons on either side with a somewhat flat centre for the bonnet. The front grille and air dam are incorporated into one hexagonal unit that houses the license plate in the centre. The fog lamps are incorporated in large angular housings on either side of the bumper. The head lamps have become smaller but retain their tall swept back design, now featuring LED daytime running light strips.</p>

<p>The side profile of the car largely remains the same apart from a black section on the C-pillar connecting the rear quarter window and rear windshield. In fact, the rear door handles are now integrated behind the rear quarter window.</p>

<p>The rear of the car again is similar with a small rear window and tall tail lamps, the new bumper though looks much sportier with a black lower section housing two tail pipes on either side to give the car a wider look.</p>

<p>Inside the third generation Swift is an all new dashboard that gets large twin pods in the instrument binnacle, a three spoke steering wheel with switchgear, round central air vents, a large touch screen infotainment system and round HVAC control knobs possibly with inbuilt digital displays.</p>

<p>Suzuki has come out with a limited edition Swift Sport SZ-R which will be available in UK markets from the 1<sup>st</sup> of March. There are cosmetic updates made to the car like the cosmic black exterior with a contrasting red roof and a rear spoiler and door mirrors. There will be only 100 units produced and they all will feature uniquely numbered door sills. There is a more of red inside too as the gear knob and carpets get that colour.</p>

<p>The rest of the equipment includes climate control, cruise control, HID projector headlights and Bluetooth. The Swift SZ-R has to be a mad machine and so it gets the 134bhp 1.6-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine which is capable of going from 0-100km/h in 8.7seconds. The Suzuki SZ-R will cost £14,249 (approximately Rs. 11 Lakhs) Maruti Suzuki might just get it toIndia. Fiat has already confirmed the Punto Abarth, Volkswagen will bring the Polo TSI to the party and if Maruti Suzuki brings the SZ-R, the enthusiasts will have a lot to choose from.</p>

I’m sure I don’t have to tell you that I’ve been waiting for this moment for a long time!</p>

<p>Well, since July 2013 to be exact – that’s the last time I drove a Ferrari V12 convertible. And it just so happens that the Ferrari 12Cilindri is the spiritual successor of this very machine – a 1971 365 GTS, the Daytona Spider, which directly inspired the styling of the front-end of this machine.

<p>At the time, even in my wildest dreams I couldn’t have possibly imagined that over a decade later, on the 16th of April 2024, Ferrari would ensure that the lineage of the front-engined V12 GT would endure, thanks to the 12Cilindri.</p><p><img src="https://images.autox.com/uploads/2025/03/1741785060147-1jvd-Ferrari-12Cilindri-Spider-Front.webp" alt="Ferrari 12Cilindri Spider-Front.jpg" style="width: 100%; height: auto;"></p>

<p>And I certainly couldn’t have predicted that I would be at Maranello on that fateful day, when both the Berlinetta and Spider would be unveiled to an unsuspecting bunch of motoring journalists from across the globe. But that was just the unveil. This would finally be my chance to get behind the wheel – here in Cascais in Portugal, on the western most tip of the European continent.</p><p><img src="https://images.autox.com/uploads/2025/03/1741784879542-zhk3-Ferrari-12Cilindri-Spider-infotainment-screen.webp" alt="Ferrari 12Cilindri Spider-infotainment-screen.jpg" style="width: 100%; height: auto;"></p><p>The 12Cilindri Spider was kitted out in its launch livery of Verde Toscana, which was offset perfectly by the black contrasting trim. And, to my eyes, it’s an absolutely stunning machine – a design that, for some reason, the pictures simply do no justice! It’s clean and elegant, while being muscular and curvaceous at the same time. There’s a timelessness to the design, and I personally think it’ll age very well indeed.</p>

    
  
    
  


<h2>So, what’s all the fuss about?</h2>

<p>Well, the name is a dead giveaway – the car is pronounced Dodici Cilindri, which literally translates to 12 cylinders in Italian. The engine was so important to this machine – so central to Ferrari in fact – that they decided to name this car after its engine configuration. You see, across the industry, engines are either being downsized and turbocharged or hybridised, or both, so the idea of a naturally aspirated V12 is not just truly alluring but also incredibly courageous from the Prancing Horse. </p><p><img src="https://images.autox.com/uploads/2025/03/1741784948629-7w76-Ferrari-12Cilindri-Spider-Rear-View.webp" alt="Ferrari 12Cilindri Spider-Rear-View.jpg" style="width: 100%; height: auto;"></p><p>Now that’s not to say that Ferrari hasn’t also gone down the turbo and hybrid route already – in fact, with its performance flagship, the SF90, it’s attached a pair of turbos to a V8, not to mention added a battery pack and a set of motors to give it 1,000 horsepower and all-wheel drive. Meanwhile, in the achingly beautiful and spectacularly fast 296, it’s even gone down the V6 route (which is also turbocharged and hybridised) for the first time since the Dino in the 60s. And, of course, it’s also heading down the EV route, with its first all-electric supercar that will be revealed later this year.</p><p>But Ferrari also wants to retain the essence of its GT cars from the 50s and 60s, which is where the 12Cilindri comes in. And so, this successor to the 812 Superfast gave up its ultimate performance throne to the SF90 and instead embraced its GT roots to make the most of the V12 under the bonnet – which can be both incredibly refined but also insanely explosive, depending on what you do with your right foot.</p>

    
  
    
  


<h2>So, what’s under the hood?</h2>

<p>Now, we’ve been over the specs before, but it bears repeating – it’s a 6.5-litre V12 that produces a scarcely believable 128bhp per litre for a total power output of 818bhp at 9,250rpm and 678Nm at 7,250rpm. It redlines at, brace yourself, 9,500rpm, and it’s so incredibly smooth, plus it revs so fast thanks to its titanium conrods, that you can get up to the redline and not even know it unless you’re looking at the digital tach on the instrument cluster.</p><p><img src="https://images.autox.com/uploads/2025/03/1741784971851-vk7o-Ferrari-12Cilindri-Spider-1.webp" alt="Ferrari 12Cilindri Spider-1.jpg" style="width: 100%; height: auto;"></p><p>Yes, it reaches 100km/h in 2.9 seconds and 200km/h in 7.9 seconds from a standstill, but it also has a cabin outfitted with the finest handstitched Italian leather and all the tech you can possibly imagine. It gets three displays – one for the instrument cluster, one for the central screen, where you can connect your phone, and the third is a passenger screen integrated into the dash, so your unsuspecting co-driver can keep an eye on the revs as he or she hangs on for dear life.</p>
  
    
  


<p>Of course, in true Ferrari fashion, it’s got massive gear shift paddles mounted to the steering column – as opposed to onto the steering wheel – which is just how I like them because you always know where they are. The steering wheel has wiper controls and indicator buttons, as well the famous Manettino switch, which you use to control the driving modes. But it also has a very innocuous button on a panel off to one side of the steering wheel that’s marked HELE, which stands for ‘High Emotion, Low Emission.’ That’s Ferrari-speak for the Auto Start-Stop button. Most cars would have an ‘A’ inside a circle, but that just wouldn’t do on a Ferrari. But the thing is that it’s not contrived in the cabin of this car. It’s simply a result of the Ferrari mindset of passion and precision. Of course, they strive for absolute performance and aim for perfection, but at the heart of every decision is emotion – the emotion it evokes when you interact with the machine. And you get a sense of that ethos from everyone who works at Maranello, regardless of whether that person is in his or her first week or a veteran who’s been there for decades.

<h2>So, what’s it like from behind the wheel?</h2>

<p>Well, I would love to tell you that I spent my time in the 12Cilindri Spider bouncing off the 9,500rpm rev limiter, but in fact we were met with a torrential downpour that felt less like Southern Europe and more like South Mumbai in the monsoon. But what these conditions did was usher in a complete revelation in terms of just what this Ferrari GT is capable of.</p>

<p>You would imagine that an 800+ horsepower rear drive beast would be a terrifying experience in the pouring rain – especially on the tight and twisting coastal roads of Portugal, but in in truth, with the Manettino set to ‘Wet,’ it was almost as docile as a Fiat Panda. But the minute you bury your right foot into the carpet, it quickly turns into a thoroughbred stallion – but never a bucking Bronco. You can see the traction control button flashing away on the dash as you try and overwhelm the rear tyres, but the electronics are so well calibrated that it modulates the power perfectly to match the prevailing levels of grip. Sure, you can always get in over your head with that much power on tap but show a little restraint and the 12Cilindri will humour and entertain you in equal measure.</p><p><img src="https://images.autox.com/uploads/2025/03/1741785017763-ioei-Ferrari-12Cilindri-Spider-Rear-Three-Quarter.webp" alt="Ferrari 12Cilindri Spider-Rear-Three-Quarter.jpg" style="width: 100%; height: auto;"></p><p>Of course, any opportunity I got between the near incessant showers, I dropped the top to hear that V12 howl. Sure, it’s slightly muted because of a pair of catalytic convertors and petrol particulate filters, but in ‘Race’ mode, with the flaps in the exhaust open, it’s enough to make your hair stand on end and send chills down your spine. But, really, what stands out in this car is its sheer poise and balance. No one does cohesion quite like Ferrari. <p>So, what you’re getting in the 12Cilindri is a level of performance &amp; style mated to a versatility &amp; usability that’s simply unmatched. You get bragging rights and the ultimate tech of course, but what really sets this machine apart is its breadth of capability, which is in a league of one. This really is a car that you can drive cross-country to your favourite racetrack, have a blast at the limit, and then drive home again at breakneck speed – in true GT fashion.</p>

Ferrari 12Cilindri Spider First Drive Review: Versatility in Verde

We drove a naturally-aspirated V12, convertible Ferrari offering maximum involvement but a torrential downpour threatened to spoil the party.

<p>We were quite eager to&nbsp;get our hands on this bike since it was first teased at&nbsp;<a href="https://www.autox.com/news/bike-news/eicma-2024-top-india-bound-motorcycles-to-watch-out-for-118832/">EICMA</a>. The <a href="https://www.autox.com/reviews/bike-reviews/ktm-390-adventure-review-first-ride-107195/">old 390 Adventure</a> was a blast, don't get me wrong, but it had its quirks, especially when pushed off-road. After spending six months commuting on the Royal Enfield Himalayan, I was curious to see how this new KTM stacked up. Well, we recently had the opportunity to thoroughly ride and test it, and let me tell you that it's a significant leap forward. This isn't just a refresh; it's a full-fledged evolution.</p><div style="width: 100%; height: auto;" class="post-image">

  <p><br></p><h2>KTM 390 Adventure First Ride Review: Design and Quality<br></h2><p>Let's talk about the design first. It's definitely going to spark debate, but personally, I like it. That rugged rally-inspired Dakar vibe works in its favour. The 21-inch front and
17-inch rear spoke wheels with tubeless Apollo Tramplr tyres are a huge plus.
The WP Apex suspension is another standout upgrade, offering a noticeably more
compliant and capable ride. An India-specific tweak – the offset rear monoshock
– lowers the seat height to 830mm in the Adventure variant and 825mm in the
Adventure X. On top of that, ground clearance has been increased to a solid
237mm, addressing a major concern from the previous model.</p><p><img src="https://images.autox.com/uploads/2025/02/1740405472650-uxpi-KTM-390-Adventure-Web-13.webp" alt="KTM 390 Adventure Web 13.jpg" style="width: 100%; height: auto;"></p>
  <p>The pigmented body panels are a nice touch, promising better scratch resistance since they're painted during the moulding process itself. And the standard kit – knuckle guards, engine guard, and bash plate – is quite useful for off-road scrapes. The forged foot levers feel solid, and you can remove the rubber inserts for better grip while riding&nbsp;in the dirt. My only gripe? The flimsy all-plastic knuckle guards&nbsp;–&nbsp;they would have been much better with metal reinforcements.&nbsp;</p><p><img src="https://images.autox.com/uploads/2025/02/1740405792534-0shu-KTM-390-Adventure-Web-7.webp" alt="KTM 390 Adventure Web 7.jpg" style="width: 100%; height: auto;"></p><p>The new bespoke ADV tubular trellis subframe – KTM claims
that it’s 10% more rigid – feels solid and enhances the bike’s overall
stability. Despite the weight dropping to 183kgs, the 14.5-litre fuel tank
remains unchanged. The overall fit and finish are excellent, offering a premium
feel throughout. The 5-inch bonded TFT screen, borrowed from the new 390 Duke,
is crisp, clear, and easily readable even in bright sunlight.<br></p><h2>KTM 390 Adventure First Ride Review: Ergonomics and Features<br></h2><p>The riding position is comfortable and upright – perfect for
long days in the saddle. The new KTM 390 Adventure feels large when you're off
it but seems to shrink around you once you get on and start moving. The
controls are intuitive, and the switchgear is easy to reach. Cruise control is
a welcome addition for highway stints, and the ride modes – Rain, Street, and
Off-Road – are simple to toggle through. A big plus is that ride mode settings
remain unchanged even after switching off the ignition – a thoughtful touch
indeed!</p>
<p>Phone connectivity and navigation feel slick, and the
voice-activated calling is a nice convenience. Unlike the Duke 390, which can
only receive calls, the 390 Adventure allows you to make calls directly from
the bike. Finally, the electronics suite – which includes cornering ABS,
switchable cornering traction control, Quickshifter+, and customizable ride

The LC4c
399cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine is noticeably smoother, thanks to
the 5mm offset crank. It delivers better low-end grunt than the previous model
but still loves to be revved. Peak power kicks in 1,000rpm sooner, making it
more accessible.</p>
<p>That said, there’s still a noticeable lag before the bike
starts moving. I noticed that it stalled a couple of times when
setting off from a standstill off-road, but far less frequently than the old
bike.</p><p><img src="https://images.autox.com/uploads/2025/02/1740405943424-ag92-KTM-390-Adventure-Web-15.webp" alt="KTM 390 Adventure Web 15.jpg" style="width: 100%; height: auto;"></p><p>Acceleration is brisk, with 0 – 60 km/h achieved in 2.6
seconds and 0 – 100 km/h in 6.2 seconds – both quicker than the previous
generation model. The improved mid-range power is quite evident, delivering
faster 30 – 70 km/h roll-on acceleration.
Cruise control, which activates above 20 km/h, performs well
on the highway, especially when paired with Quickshifter+, making for a smooth

curved radiator and reprofiled shrouds that divert hot air away from the rider
– a definite and noticeable upgrade. The underbelly exhaust, with its claimed
400mm water-wading capacity, handles water crossings with ease, even when the
water level reaches the engine guards.</p><p><img src="https://images.autox.com/uploads/2025/02/1740406032170-z2yg-KTM-390-Adventure-Web-3.webp" alt="KTM 390 Adventure Web 3.jpg" style="width: 100%; height: auto;"></p><p>The WP Apex suspension has received a significant upgrade,
offering a much more compliant ride, as it effortlessly absorbs bumps and rough
terrain. The adjustable open-cartridge system provides 30 steps of compression
and rebound adjustment at the front, 20 steps at the rear, and 10 steps of
preload adjustment at the rear, allowing for fine-tuning across various riding
conditions.
While the increased suspension travel is a welcome
improvement, I did notice the front forks bottoming out a couple of times
during intense off-road testing – enough to throw me off the line slightly. That
said, it’s a fair trade-off for the bike’s sharp on-road dynamics and a huge
improvement over the previous model’s overly stiff setup, which was a common

    Off-road, the bike feels light, balanced, and predictable in
technical sections. Compared to the Himalayan, it’s noticeably sharper and more
responsive. The Apollo Tramplr tyres performed decently across varied on- and
off-road conditions. However, since we didn’t lower the tyre pressure when
going off-road, the front end lacked a bit of bite.
The brakes – a 320mm floating disc with a twin-piston calliper
up front and a 240mm rear disc with a single-piston calliper – are strong and

<h2>2025 Ather 450X Review: New Modes and Regen</h2>

<p>The first thing I want to highlight is the multi-level traction control system. While the Rizta had a simpler on-and-off toggle, the new 450 scooters get multiple levels — Rain, Road and Rally. You can also completely switch it off if you want. As one would expect, the traction control system is the most active when you select Rain while Road is meant for daily usage.</p>

<p>In the Rally mode, the traction control is a lot more lenient and it allows you to kick up some dirt. We tested the modes on some loose sand and it worked really well. There is an appreciable difference when testing the scooter in extreme conditions. While the 450X, does not really need a traction control system, it is good to see it nonetheless.</p>

<p>The 450X still gets the same 8.4bhp motor that is capable of producing 26Nm. It is still just as fun to ride and just as responsive too. Ather has introduced a new set of tyres from MRF&nbsp;with the updated scooters. These tyres have been developed specially for the 450 and are meant to offer more range while not compromising grip. And I must say, that I hardly noticed any issue with the grip from the new rubber. Combined with the new regen braking, this setup is claimed to substantially increase the real-world range of the scooter. As per Ather, the TruRange of the 3.7kWh model has gone up from 105km to 130km. That is a healthy boost and we will be eager to test it out when we have the scooter for a longer time.</p>

<p>What I do feel is a missed opportunity is that there is still no ABS. I think adding ABS over traction control would have been more useful. I did find myself locking the brakes a couple of times when on the track. While you may argue that people ride more gently on the road, let me remind you that the conditions out there can be rather unpredictable. Also, now that the 450X supports traction control modes and regen levels along with ride modes, I think that Ather should display them on the screen as well. This would help the rider in knowing what levels of various settings the scooter is in, rather than having to dig deep into menus.</p>

<h2>2025 Ather 450X Review: Colour Options and UI Updates</h2>

<p>Ather has not changed any aspect of the scooter’s design so it remains the same as before. There are, however, two new colour options available now - Hyper Sand and Stealth Blue. I particularly like the Hyper Sand colour options as it has a nice finish and looks rather refreshing. As a bonus, if you get this colour option, you will not have to worry about the scooter looking dirty because of the shade.</p>

<p>The new 450 scooters also get Atherstack 6 as part of the software suite. The instrument cluster is the same touch unit and is packed with features. However, the response is still lethargic when you use the map screen. There are noticeable stutters while you pan around. I also noticed that while most of the interface operation is smooth, there are the occasional hiccups and moments when the screen does not react as quickly.</p>

<h2>2025 Ather 450X Review: Is it better?</h2>

<p>Altogether, the 450X remains a smart and fast scooter that is more feature-rich than ever before. I feel the Magic Twist is a great addition and one that will find a lot of daily use. The traction control might be less useful but is a good safety feature still.</p>

<p>As for the pricing, it has gone up ever so slightly by Rs 6,400 for the base 450X and Rs 2,000 for the 450X with the bigger 3.7kWh battery pack.</p>

<p>Similarly, the 450 Apex has also seen a mere increase of Rs 5,001 on the effective ex-showroom price in Bengaluru. And Ather is throwing in the Halo helmet with the Apex to make it more lucrative. Altogether, despite the price hike, the scooters remain smart and safe options to pick if you are looking for an EV in this segment.<br />
