Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), erstwhile registered as Maruti Udyog Limited, stepped into India in the year 1983. The first ever Maruti Suzuki car in India was the Maruti 800, which went on to become the company’s most prominent model, remembered by countless individuals as the revolution of the Indian car industry.

The Maruti 1000 was an equally important car for the brand. It was introduced in 1989 with a 970cc engine, and was India’s first modern sedan. While the Zen was launched in 1993 with a 993cc engine, Maruti re-introduced its sedan in 1994 with a bigger, 1298cc engine, and called it the Esteem. Since its start of production in 1994, Maruti had produced 1 million vehicles. There was a second plant inaugurated as well, with an annual capacity of 200,000 units. A new Maruti Suzuki car, the&nbsp;800 was launched in 1998 and it sported a brand new design. The Zen diesel was Maruti’s first diesel car for India, and a redesigned Omni was introduced alongside as well. In the year 1999, Maruti launched a three-box saloon, called the Baleno, and the WagonR, which quickly became a favourite among Indian buyers.

Today, Maruti Suzuki cars model list&nbsp;has, what could easily be, one of the largest model portfolios in the country – starting with the Maruti Suzuki Alto, Alto K10, Swift, WagonR, Celerio, Dzire, Brezza, Ertiga, Gypsy, Eeco, Baleno, Ciaz and Ignis. The production facilities are based in Gurugram and Manesar in Haryana and Sanand in Gujarat.

<a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/maruti-suzuki/">Maruti Suzuki</a> has been careful to not deter the core recipe of the S-Cross with the recent face-lift. So it retains its commendable highway cruising capabilities while continuing to remain well equipped and spacious. But the update has seen Maruti drop the enthusiast-oriented 1.6-litre engine. Is that a cause for worry? Well, we had to head to Udaipur to find out.

The festive season is here and it's time for consumer goods industries across the board to roll out a range of offers to entice customers nationwide. When it comes to the passenger car industry, the season sees a range of new <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-car-launches-in-india/">car launches</a> as well limited/special edition models for mass market cars to allure new car buyers into showrooms. And here comes Maruti Suzuki’s big offering for the season, the S-Cross face-lift.

Armed with an entirely new front fascia, the updated Maruti S-Cross has been given a spruced appeal to make prospective customers turn around to take a second glance. And on the face of it, it has to be said that Maruti has carried out the job rather well. The nose of the car now gets a more upright stance thanks to that chunky&nbsp;chrome grille that’s impossible to miss. The revised front air-dam in the bumper along with the faux skid plate work to give the car a wide appearance. But it’s that resculpted bonnet with a raised contour and lines that mimic a power dome that truly works with the grille to give the car a more aggressive face. It’s a well-executed job this, for the S-Cross now looks more like a crossover than car-like. And those new headlamps featuring LED projectors and DRLs add to the new car’s appeal.

Exterior styling changes on the car are otherwise limited to new LED tail lamps and diamond cut alloy wheels. While on the inside the dashboard has been given a once over and gets different soft-touch plastics in front of the passenger, piano black surrounds for the centre air vents and infotainment system, a revised instrument cluster with SHVS stamped in the speedometer and the infotainment system has been updated with android auto and apple car play. These changes aside, the 2017 S-Cross remains identical to the model it replaces. And that’s a good thing, for at the core of this car are some very good characteristics that continue to impress.

For starters, the leather seats continue to offer great cushioning for the seat base and lower back – both front and rear. It’s very easy to find an ideal driving position thanks to the rake and reach adjustable steering wheel and height adjustable driver’s seat. There continues to be more than ample rear legroom for occupants as well as a reclining backrest. Although I do wish its straight-ahead position was the reclined stage and it reclined further, but I guess that would eat up too much into boot space which is at a premium. At 353 litres its more than enough for your shopping runs, but take four people on a road trip and you are bound to need more luggage room.

But where the S-Cross redeems itself is perhaps one of the most beneficial updates this face-lift has brought, and that’s the incorporation of Suzuki’s SHVS mild hybrid system. This is bound to make the car more efficient than the earlier model. What the mild hybrid system does, in a nutshell, is improve fuel efficiency with the help of an engine stop/start system, power assistance and brake energy regeneration.&nbsp;

So, every time you brake, the system stores kinetic energy and releases it to assist at certain times during acceleration. This electrical assistance to the engine reduces load, leading to higher fuel efficiency. The engine is also switched off automatically when you come to a halt in traffic or at a set of lights.

On the performance front, the SHVS system doesn’t bring any changes as acceleration appears to be on par with the non-SHVS model. However, a thorough test report will reveal details.

For now, it’s worth noting that while enthusiasts are still nursing the 1.6 hangover, However, I can’t stress how much more user-friendly the 1.3-litre engine is to use in the city. For there is virtually no turbo lag, so you tend not to lurch forward in traffic once the turbo comes on song. The engine works very well off-boost and you are never really wanting for more poke while driving in traffic. Of course, the strong push in your back acceleration is missed once the road opens up. But bear in mind that I have clocked in excess of 180 km/h (indicated) on a closed track in the previous 1.3 S-Cross. And that from a 1.3-litre diesel engined car is commendable I would say. However, there is a fair bit of NVH that seeps into the cabin like earlier. Another change worth noting is that&nbsp;the steering now feels a little lighter than earlier and I wish it offered more feedback around the dead centre position.

Maruti has made no changes to the suspension of the car so it continues to offer a very comfortable ride for passengers both front and rear. And from past experience, I can tell you that the S-Cross sits very well on the road at high speeds in confidence and is undeterred by road undulations thanks also to its long wheelbase and wide footprint, which has improved courtesy the slightly wider 215/60 section tyres on the new car.

The summation for the new Maruti Suzuki S-Cross 1.3 SHVS would then have to read that this is a good evolution for the car. It’s now got a more prominent front-end design; a couple more useful features and it will be more fuel efficient. Its good that&nbsp;Maruti has done all of this while ensuring that the car remains as capable as ever.&nbsp;

Maruti Suzuki S-Cross SHVS Review, First Drive

The Maruti Suzuki S-Cross SHVS is the flagship product from the homegrown carmaker. For 2017, the company has pushed out a mid-life update to the S-Cross. However, they have axed out the 1.6-diesel. Here's what we think.

Maruti Suzuki makes another attempt at breaking into the premium segment with the S-Cross. We drive it to see if it has what it takes to compete in an increasingly tough segment, and also elevate the Maruti Suzuki brand at the same time.

The premium car segment has been a tough nut to crack for a number of carmakers in India. The combination of a good product, along with the requisite brand reputation to make a vehicle perceived as premium might seem easy in theory, but the demanding Indian consumer has made many a company bite the dust when it comes to getting this combination right.

Maruti Suzuki knows this all too well. Having established complete dominance in the mass market segments, over the years the company has tried numerous times to break into the premium segment – but with little success. And it’s not as if the products were lacking. The Kizashi and Grand Vitara, for instance, were both very capable products, but getting the consumer to believe that the Maruti Suzuki brand can be premium is something that has eluded them till now.

However, the latest premium offering from Maruti, the S-Cross, has many things in its favour – the biggest being that customers worldwide are very keen on crossovers and SUVs at the moment. And the Indian consumer is no different in this regard – something that’s been demonstrated by the massive increase in sales and consumer interest in this segment.

The styling of the S-Cross is going to be a polarising factor. Some thought it looked fairly purposeful, but, honestly, to me it didn’t seem like an SUV. It simply doesn’t have the aggression and stance to be qualified as one, so it’s a good thing that Maruti is referring to it as a crossover. But, while the S-Cross not a bad design, it looks more like a raised and elongated hatchback rather than a pure crossover. And, for many customers in this segment, that might be a turnoff as it doesn’t have the kind of road presence people have come to expect from SUVs – or, more appropriately, ‘quasi’ SUVs.

The interiors of the S-Cross are quite promising though. It’s a roomy car, with a lot of space available in both the front and rear rows, and a fairly large boot. Of course, as is the norm today, the S-Cross shares a large number of parts with other products from the Maruti Suzuki range – such as the touchscreen multimedia system, the climate control system, and other items. And this is no bad thing, as all these components are tried, tested, and they function quite well. However, the touch and feel of the interior is an aspect that Maruti needs to work on. The competition has seriously upped the game in this regard – especially when it comes to plastics and other surfaces. And, while the interiors of the S-Cross feel quite good, the overall impression is that there’s still some room for improvement.

The single biggest novelty in the S-Cross, though, is the debut of the 1.6-litre diesel engine. Belonging to the same engine family as the Fiat 1.3-litre diesel engine that we’re very familiar with, the bigger engine is fitted with a variable geometry turbocharger that enables it to produce 118bhp and 320Nm of torque. The other engine option on the S-Cross will be the ubiquitous 1.3-litre diesel, along with a five-speed manual gearbox – whereas the 1.6 gets a six-speed manual. And despite demand rising, albeit slowly, the S-Cross will not be offered with an automatic transmission or all-wheel drive – with front-wheel drive being the only option.

As we tackled early morning Mumbai traffic and headed towards the highway, the S-Cross felt quite nimble and handled well. The suspension is well tuned and quite comfortable. However, on bad roads, the ride can get quite choppy – especially at the rear. But the car feels very stable at high speed, and the standard disc brakes at all four corners (with ABS) work very well. Also helping the handling are wide 205-section tyres fitted on to 16-inch wheels. The 1.6-litre engine is quite refined and has low NVH levels, but below 1,700rpm it has quite a bit of turbo lag – so driving it in urban conditions is going to be slightly tricky. On the other hand, beyond 1,700rpm, the engine revs very quickly and delivers fantastic mid and top-end power. And while it can be revved to 4,500rpm, it starts to make quite a racket over 3,500rpm, which discourages you from redlining it. The engine works best in the 2,000-4,000rpm range, which is good enough for everyday use. The six-speed gearbox is quite nice to operate, offering crisp shifts with very well defined shift gates. With that said, given the premium positioning of the S-Cross, Maruti Suzuki should have at least offered an automatic transmission option on the top-end model.

The other interesting aspect is the impressive level of standard equipment available. The top-end version we drove featured climate control, a 7-inch touchscreen with navigation and Bluetooth, cruise control, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, 16-inch alloy wheels, and loads of other features. It clearly shows Maruti’s seriousness towards targeting customers looking at premium segment products, in which high equipment levels are a given.

The other, and more important aspect, from the point of view of both the manufacturer and the potential customer is the announcement of a new range of Maruti Suzuki dealerships. Named Nexa, these new dealerships have been specifically conceptualised and designed to appeal to a completely new set of customers. These outlets aim to bring a luxurious environment and superior buying experience to the Maruti Suzuki buyer. Of course, these dealerships will focus exclusively on selling Maruti’s premium product range – which will start out with the S-Cross and Ciaz sedan.

So, to conquer a segment that has remained elusive, Maruti is leaving no stone unturned with a brand new product, a new range of dealerships and a clear focus on taking the brand upmarket. Overall, the S-Cross is a refined machine, which is quite nice to drive and roomy too – making it a good, practical car for everyday use, as long as you don’t think of it as an SUV!

The real test will be how the Indian customer responds to the S-Cross within a crowded market of crossovers – and, more importantly, to the experience of a new range of dealerships. The strategy folks at Maruti are throwing everything, including the kitchen sink, at the problem. But this is a threshold that will take the brand some time to cross, as there are years of conditioning to overcome. The question is: will Maruti Suzuki have the patience to stay the course?

Plastic quality is a letdown

If this model is being sold at NEXA dealerships, then it is a premium segment car. However, despite the effort, Maruti has not gone into that segment successfully as the interiors of the S-Cross are like any other Maruti car till now. Neither are they different nor are they made of premium materials. Plastic quality is pretty bad too.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Good suspension setup

The S-Cross is a very good car for daily city driving because it can deal with all types of roads, thanks to a smart suspension setup. It strikes a good balance between stability and absorbing meanest of potholes.

Rock solid at high speed

How good is this car for long highway drives! I travel to various cities in India by road and so I need a trustworthy all-rounder which is exactly what the S-Cross is proving to be. Very happy with my car.

The facelifted <a href="https://www.autox.com/reviews/car-reviews/2015-maruti-suzuki-s-cross-review-test-drive-53099/">Maruti Suzuki S-Cross</a> is expected to be launched towards the end of this month

Just last week we reported that the bookings for the S-Cross facelift have commenced at Rs 11,000. And now, our sources tell us that the 2017 S-Cross will come with the Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki (SHVS) system. We have already seen the SHVS system on the Ciaz and the Ertiga. Interestingly, when <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/maruti-suzuki/">Maruti Suzuki</a> introduced this system, hybrid cars received certain subsidies which helped bring the price down. As per Good and Services Tax (GST) structure, hybrid cars will now be taxed at 43 percent instead of the earlier 30.3 percent. While this is sure to cause an increase in the price of the S-Cross facelift, Maruti Suzuki still seems to have gone ahead with the SHVS system as it results in considerable improvement in fuel efficiency.

Introduction of the SHVS system will not be the only reason for the increase in the price of the S-Cross facelift. The 2017 iteration will come fitted with features like full LED lights and DRLs, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto – none of which were seen on the outgoing model. Some of the other features will be carried forward from the pre-facelift model like the touchscreen infotainment, reversing camera, button start, keyless entry and the likes.

Much to the disappointment of enthusiasts, the S-Cross facelift may not be offered with the larger 1.6-litre motor. Even when the S-Cross was first launched, the 1.6 variant sold in limited numbers mainly due to the high price tag it carried. This time around though, the S-Cross will only come with the 1.3-litre motor that produces 89bhp and 200Nm.

Although there is no confirmed news about the pricing as yet, the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross facelift is likely to demand a premium of around Rs 40,000 over the outgoing model. The current S-Cross starts at Rs 7.94 lakh for the base trim and goes right up to Rs 10.56 lakh for the top-spec 1.3.

Just last week we reported that the bookings for the S-Cross facelift have commenced at Rs 11,000. And now, our sources tell us that the 2017 S-Cross will come with the Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki (SHVS) system.

The company’s Nexa dealerships have started accepting pre-orders for the refreshed crossover at a token amount of Rs 11,000. There’s no word on its launch date as yet, but Maruti Suzuki is expected to put it on sale well before the festive season – expect it to reach showroom floors by no later than the end of September 2017.

The updated S-Cross comes with some major design changes. Showcased first at the 2016 Paris Motor Show, the new S-Cross gets a completely new front fascia, featuring a bold new grille with vertical chrome slats, new projector headlamps with LED DRLs and a new bumper design. The side-profile is largely unchanged but it’ll get new alloy wheels. Around the back, changes are minimal, but now it gets slightly re-profiled tail-lamps with LEDs.

Inside, the design and layout will be more or less the same as the current car, albeit it’s expected to get a new upholstery and updated infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity options. Feature wise, expect the new version to be as well kitted-out as the outgoing model.

As for the engine options, the dealers are shying away from sharing the details. As per our sources, <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/maruti-suzuki/">Maruti Suzuki</a> is planning to junk the Fiat-sourced 1.6-litre diesel unit in the new model. This means the 1.3-litre diesel engine will only be the&nbsp;sole option for people buying the S-Cross. The engine specifications are unlikely to change as well. Power output should stay the same at 89bhp, along with a peak torque of 200Nm. Power transmission duties will be carried out by a five-speed gearbox.

Expect a minor bump in the prices of the S-Cross from now once the face-lift is launched. Prices, as a consequence, should be starting just above Rs 8 lakh mark(ex-showroom). Competition for the S-Cross will include the likes of the <a href="https://www.autox.com/reviews/car-reviews/2018-hyundai-creta-review-first-drive-103837/">Hyundai Creta</a>, Renault Duster and Nissan Terrano.

Unlike most <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/maruti-suzuki/">Maruti Suzuki</a> offerings, the S-Cross didn’t gain enough popularity on the sales charts owing to its high pricing, but now, after almost 20 months, the car has recorded sales of 50,000 units. Of these 50,000 units sold, nearly 46,000 were registered locally while the rest have been exported.

The car was launched at a starting price of Rs 8.34 lakh for the base model powered by a 1.3-litre mill while the top-spec variant with the 1.6-litre diesel carried a sticker price of Rs 13.74 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). At this price, the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross didn’t offer adequate value which was one of the primary reasons for its limited sales. Just 6 months after the launch, the Manesar-based car maker slashed the prices of the S-Cross by over Rs 2 lakh. Currently, the S-Cross ranges from Rs 8.07 lakh for the base 1.3 diesel to Rs 12.04 lakh for the top-spec 1.6-diesel (ex-showroom Delhi). The revised prices too haven’t had a considerable impact on the sales numbers. The S-Cross has been consistently registering sales of about 2,000 units each month.

The S-Cross comes with two diesel engines to choose from - a 1.3-litre and a 1.6-litre. The lower spec variants have been plonked with the 1.3-litre motor that churns out 89bhp and 200Nm. This engine only comes mated to a 5-speed manual. The 1.6-litre diesel motor makes peak power of 118bhp and max torque of 320Nm. This engine has been paired with a 6-speed manual transmission. The 1.6-litre diesel is only available in the top-spec Alpha trim.

While the S-Cross was the first car to be sold from Maruti Suzuki’s Nexa dealerships, the company now also sells the Baleno, Baleno RS, <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/maruti-suzuki/ciaz/">Ciaz</a> and the Ignis from there. Maruti Suzuki is expected to launch the S-Cross facelift sometime later this year.

It took the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross about 20 months for the car to achieve this milestone. Maruti Suzuki launched the S-Cross in India in August 2015 and with it kickstarted their premium Nexa dealerships.

Owing to the&nbsp;low demand of the S-Cross 1.6, Maruti Suzuki has discontinued the lower variants of the car. This means the S-Cross 1.6 will only be sold in the top-spec Alpha trim &nbsp;from now on. The lower powered S-Cross 1.3 will continue to be offered in three variants, namely – Delta, Zeta and Alpha.

At the time of its launch (August 2015), the S-Cross was offered with two diesel engine options – 1.6-litre and 1.3-litre. &nbsp;The S-Cross 1.6 was initially offered in three variants Delta, Zeta and Alpha. Now, though, the company has pulled the plug on the Delta and Zeta variants. The reason behind doing that is quite apparent since the S-Cross has been a slow-seller for the manufacturer, especially the 1.6 version. In the past 6 months, sales of the S-Cross average out at around 1,500-2,000 units per month - which are also majorly &nbsp;coming from the 1.3 version.

Having said that, the 1.6 derivative should still be your pick of the lot if you’re after performance. That’s because it's propelled by a 1,598cc turbo diesel engine that churns out 118bhp of maximum power along with a twisting force of 320Nm! The engine comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox that channels drive to front-wheels.

The S-Cross 1.6 Alpha is priced at Rs 12.03 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and comes fully loaded with features such as a touch infotainment system, cruise control, projector headlamps, auto-headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, parking camera, engine push start/stop, etc. Considering all the bells and whistles it packs, the S-Cross 1.6 is a great value for money proposition - albeit only for people looking for that extra bit of performance. For a regular Joe, the S-Cross 1.3 still makes more sense, priced between Rs 8.78 lakh and Rs 10.63 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Maruti Suzuki is also expected to bring in the <a href="https://www.autox.com/reviews/car-reviews/bs6-maruti-suzuki-s-cross-petrol-review-first-drive-108315/">S-Cross</a> facelift to the country sometime later this year. The 2017 S-Cross has been given a thorough makeover on the inside out, although mechanically it’s most likely going be unchanged.

Following a preview of the 2017 S-Cross to select audience in July, Suzuki has official revealed the car ahead of its Paris Motor Show debut. The refreshed S-Cross gets styling updates and a longer list of features.

In terms of looks, the 2017 S-Cross gets a bolder grille in line with the newer models from the brand and newly designed headlamps that give it a sharper look. The tail lights too have been remoulded and now are of the LED kind. The ground clearance too has now been raised to 180mm from the previous 165mm. Much of the interior remains the same with the all-black dashboard and the large touchscreen infotainment in the centre. The seat fabric however on a few variants has been changed.

Internationally, the Suzuki S-Cross bids adieu to the old 1.6-litre petrol powerplant and welcomes the 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged motor along with the 1.4-litre 4-cylinder Boosterjet unit. The former unit is a Direct Injection Turbocharged one, and it makes 109bhp and 170Nm. Despite being a 1.0-litre unit the S-Cross makes 9 per cent more torque than the outgoing model and returns 10 per cent better efficiency. The 1.4-litre Boosterjet engine on the other hand makes 138bhp and 220Nm thanks to which it can cross the 100km/h mark from standstill in just 10.2 seconds. This engine is 17 percent more powerful but at the same time 4 per cent more economical than the 1.6-litre unit.

In terms of features, the international spec model comes with 7 airbags and ESP as standard along with 16-inch alloy wheels, cruise control, heated door mirrors and more. The mid variant gets LED projector headlamps, navigation, 17-inch alloys, reversing camera, dual-zone climate control and more. The top-spec model comes fitted with Radar Brake Support (RBS), leather seat upholstery, heated front seats, double sliding panoramic sunroof and aluminium roof rails. To ensure that the car remains cost effective, some of these features might not make it into the India spec model.

In India, the S-Cross will continue to be offered with the same 1.3-litre and the 1.6-litre diesel engine options. Further, Maruti Suzuki might just plonk the Bosterjet engine from the Baleno RS into the S-Cross at a later stage. Expect the facelifted 2017 Maruti Suzuki S-Cross to go on sale in India sometime next year.

Suzuki’s facelifted S-Cross has been unveiled in Hungary to a select audience ahead of its public reveal.

The updated Suzuki S-Cross has been unveiled in Hungary before its official unveil for a selected audience. Suzuki is likely to showcase the facelifted S-Cross at the 2016 Paris motor show later this year.

The update includes many changes to the styling of the vehicle. Majorly the front grille which was a 5-slat horizontal patter, now has been replaced with a more aggressive chrome multi-slat configured vertically, wrapped around with a chrome band. The front bumper has also changed with significant change to the fog lamps. The front hand lamps have also been updated with new projector headlamps.

The interior of the S-Cross hosts a few changes as well. The instrument cluster has been replaced with new dials and a new MID, the seta upholstery and colour combinations have also been updated with contrasting stitching and new trim options. The infotainment system is different for the Indian market, compared to the one sold internationally.

The S-Cross above in the images is an all-wheel-drive “All Grip” with 1.4-litre Boosterjet petrol engine that develops 140bhp which is fitted to the Suzuki Vitara sold in the international markets. This version is unlikely to arrive in India. For the Indian market, the powertrain options are likely to remain the same with a 1.3-litre DDiS and a 1.6-litre DDiS turbo diesel engines sold via Maruti Suzuki’s Nexa channel of premium dealerships. It has been reported that <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/maruti-suzuki/">Maruti Suzuki</a> is working on a petrol engine for the S-Cross for the Indian market as well. However, the updated S-Cross's launch timeline has not been confirmed by the manufacturer.

Maruti Suzuki has called in a large number of S-Cross models to voluntarily replace brake calipers over a suspected fault. 

Maruti Suzuki has just announced a service camp for its S-Cross premium crossover in regard to replace brake calipers on 20,427 units voluntarily owing to a suspected fault in the part. There have been no reported incidents in relation to the matter and is a voluntary initiative on Maruti’s part change a potentially defective part. The inspection and replacement of the part will be done free of cost to owners by <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/maruti-suzuki/">Maruti Suzuki</a>.

The recall effects both the 1.3 litre engined DDiS 200 model and the more powerful DDiS 320 1.6 litre engined car. Between July 2015 and April 2016 Maruti Suzuki has sold 25684 units of the S-Cross.

As avid autoX readers will tell you, prices of the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross were slashed in January 2016 owing to slow demand that saw sales at a low 2,000 units for the month of December 2016. The cut in prices was a severe one that saw prices of the 1.3 litre engined variants being slashed up to Rs. 66,000 while the bigger 1.6 litre engined model saw a flat drop in prices of Rs. 2.5 lakh!

While this is all well and good sales of the Maruti S-Cross have indeed priced up to 2,524 units in February 2016, its fair to say the owners who bought an S-Cross (especially 1.6 buyers) before the price cut felt the pinch.

However, Maruti Suzuki has addressed this issue by writing a cheque worth Rs. 90,000 to all those owners who bought an S-Cross 1.6 at full price. Along with the cash back, Maruti is also offering a free 2 year / 20,000 km Maintenance Cost Protect extended warranty package for free on all pre price cut S-Cross 1.6 units sold.

Having gauged feedback from owners on this issue, it is fair to say that none of them were expecting this gesture from Maruti Suzuki. All of them are very impressed as this is the first time any car maker in India has extended a gesture of this sort. The move goes a long way for Maruti Suzuki as such activities have the potential of hiking brand loyalty.

<a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/maruti-suzuki/">Maruti Suzuki</a> has slashed the prices of the S-Cross by up to Rs 2.05 lakhs, thanks to the falling sales and low demand of the premium crossover in the country. The S-Cross range now starts at Rs 7.79 lakhs and goes up to Rs 11.69 lakhs (both ex-showroom, New Delhi).

Launched in August 2015, the S-Cross was Maruti’s first “premium” offering in the country that also introduced the brand’s exclusive NEXA dealerships. The company’s efforts to pitch the S-Cross as a premium car didn’t quite work though as the monthly sales of the car have been underwhelming thus far, gradually dropping from approximately 4,600 units per month (August ’15) to 2,000 units (December ’15). Of late, NEXA dealerships have been offering huge discounts so as to boost the sales of the S-Cross, but to no avail. As a consequence, Maruti has been forced to revise the pricing of the S-Cross now.

The S-Cross is offered with two diesel engine options – 1.3 litre (DDiS 200) and 1.6-litre (DDiS320). The former is offered in four variants – Sigma (base), Delta, Zeta and Alfa- while the latter can be had in only three trims except for the base Sigma. The base model gets a price cut of about Rs 55,000 whereas all the DDiS 320 variants are now cheaper by 2.05 lakhs.

The discount on the DDiS 200 model starts at Rs. 20,000. The DDiS 320 model has a discount of Rs. 70,000 and loyalty bonus of Rs. 30,000, pushing the total figure&nbsp;up to Rs. 1 lakh. The Maruti Suzuki S-Cross retails between Rs. 8.34 lakh to Rs. 13.74 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

This is a promotional offer and a dealer level discount that is aimed at increasing foot falls into its new range of Nexa premium dealerships which exclusively retails the S-Cross for <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/maruti-suzuki/">Maruti Suzuki</a>. The discount is only applicable for cars invoiced between the 24th and 30th of September, 2015 and is applicable in the National Capital Region. Maruti Suzuki has shipped 4,602 units of the S-Cross during the month of August 2015 from its manufacturing facility in Gurgaon.

The Kylaq, i20 N Line, & Fronx Turbo have all the ingredients to classify as a ‘hot hatch’ for the masses, but which one can truly be called the best?

I’m sure I don’t have to tell you that I’ve been waiting for this moment for a long time!

Well, since July 2013 to be exact – that’s the last time I drove a Ferrari V12 convertible. And it just so happens that the Ferrari 12Cilindri is the spiritual successor of this very machine – a 1971 365 GTS, the Daytona Spider, which directly inspired the styling of the front-end of this machine.
 
 
 
At the time, even in my wildest dreams I couldn’t have possibly imagined that over a decade later, on the 16th of April 2024, Ferrari would ensure that the lineage of the front-engined V12 GT would endure, thanks to the 12Cilindri.<img src="https://images.autox.com/uploads/2025/03/1741785060147-1jvd-Ferrari-12Cilindri-Spider-Front.webp" alt="Ferrari 12Cilindri Spider-Front.jpg" style="width: 100%; height: auto;">

And I certainly couldn’t have predicted that I would be at Maranello on that fateful day, when both the Berlinetta and Spider would be unveiled to an unsuspecting bunch of motoring journalists from across the globe. But that was just the unveil. This would finally be my chance to get behind the wheel – here in Cascais in Portugal, on the western most tip of the European continent.<img src="https://images.autox.com/uploads/2025/03/1741784879542-zhk3-Ferrari-12Cilindri-Spider-infotainment-screen.webp" alt="Ferrari 12Cilindri Spider-infotainment-screen.jpg" style="width: 100%; height: auto;">The 12Cilindri Spider was kitted out in its launch livery of Verde Toscana, which was offset perfectly by the black contrasting trim. And, to my eyes, it’s an absolutely stunning machine – a design that, for some reason, the pictures simply do no justice! It’s clean and elegant, while being muscular and curvaceous at the same time. There’s a timelessness to the design, and I personally think it’ll age very well indeed.

 
 
 
 


<h2>So, what’s all the fuss about?</h2>

Well, the name is a dead giveaway – the car is pronounced Dodici Cilindri, which literally translates to 12 cylinders in Italian. The engine was so important to this machine – so central to Ferrari in fact – that they decided to name this car after its engine configuration. You see, across the industry, engines are either being downsized and turbocharged or hybridised, or both, so the idea of a naturally aspirated V12 is not just truly alluring but also incredibly courageous from the Prancing Horse. <img src="https://images.autox.com/uploads/2025/03/1741784948629-7w76-Ferrari-12Cilindri-Spider-Rear-View.webp" alt="Ferrari 12Cilindri Spider-Rear-View.jpg" style="width: 100%; height: auto;">Now that’s not to say that Ferrari hasn’t also gone down the turbo and hybrid route already – in fact, with its performance flagship, the SF90, it’s attached a pair of turbos to a V8, not to mention added a battery pack and a set of motors to give it 1,000 horsepower and all-wheel drive. Meanwhile, in the achingly beautiful and spectacularly fast 296, it’s even gone down the V6 route (which is also turbocharged and hybridised) for the first time since the Dino in the 60s. And, of course, it’s also heading down the EV route, with its first all-electric supercar that will be revealed later this year.But Ferrari also wants to retain the essence of its GT cars from the 50s and 60s, which is where the 12Cilindri comes in. And so, this successor to the 812 Superfast gave up its ultimate performance throne to the SF90 and instead embraced its GT roots to make the most of the V12 under the bonnet – which can be both incredibly refined but also insanely explosive, depending on what you do with your right foot.

 
 
 
 


<h2>So, what’s under the hood?</h2>

Now, we’ve been over the specs before, but it bears repeating – it’s a 6.5-litre V12 that produces a scarcely believable 128bhp per litre for a total power output of 818bhp at 9,250rpm and 678Nm at 7,250rpm. It redlines at, brace yourself, 9,500rpm, and it’s so incredibly smooth, plus it revs so fast thanks to its titanium conrods, that you can get up to the redline and not even know it unless you’re looking at the digital tach on the instrument cluster.<img src="https://images.autox.com/uploads/2025/03/1741784971851-vk7o-Ferrari-12Cilindri-Spider-1.webp" alt="Ferrari 12Cilindri Spider-1.jpg" style="width: 100%; height: auto;">Yes, it reaches 100km/h in 2.9 seconds and 200km/h in 7.9 seconds from a standstill, but it also has a cabin outfitted with the finest handstitched Italian leather and all the tech you can possibly imagine. It gets three displays – one for the instrument cluster, one for the central screen, where you can connect your phone, and the third is a passenger screen integrated into the dash, so your unsuspecting co-driver can keep an eye on the revs as he or she hangs on for dear life.
 
 
 


Of course, in true Ferrari fashion, it’s got massive gear shift paddles mounted to the steering column – as opposed to onto the steering wheel – which is just how I like them because you always know where they are. The steering wheel has wiper controls and indicator buttons, as well the famous Manettino switch, which you use to control the driving modes. But it also has a very innocuous button on a panel off to one side of the steering wheel that’s marked HELE, which stands for ‘High Emotion, Low Emission.’ That’s Ferrari-speak for the Auto Start-Stop button. Most cars would have an ‘A’ inside a circle, but that just wouldn’t do on a Ferrari. But the thing is that it’s not contrived in the cabin of this car. It’s simply a result of the Ferrari mindset of passion and precision. Of course, they strive for absolute performance and aim for perfection, but at the heart of every decision is emotion – the emotion it evokes when you interact with the machine. And you get a sense of that ethos from everyone who works at Maranello, regardless of whether that person is in his or her first week or a veteran who’s been there for decades.
 
 
 
<h2>So, what’s it like from behind the wheel?</h2>

Well, I would love to tell you that I spent my time in the 12Cilindri Spider bouncing off the 9,500rpm rev limiter, but in fact we were met with a torrential downpour that felt less like Southern Europe and more like South Mumbai in the monsoon. But what these conditions did was usher in a complete revelation in terms of just what this Ferrari GT is capable of.

You would imagine that an 800+ horsepower rear drive beast would be a terrifying experience in the pouring rain – especially on the tight and twisting coastal roads of Portugal, but in in truth, with the Manettino set to ‘Wet,’ it was almost as docile as a Fiat Panda. But the minute you bury your right foot into the carpet, it quickly turns into a thoroughbred stallion – but never a bucking Bronco. You can see the traction control button flashing away on the dash as you try and overwhelm the rear tyres, but the electronics are so well calibrated that it modulates the power perfectly to match the prevailing levels of grip. Sure, you can always get in over your head with that much power on tap but show a little restraint and the 12Cilindri will humour and entertain you in equal measure.<img src="https://images.autox.com/uploads/2025/03/1741785017763-ioei-Ferrari-12Cilindri-Spider-Rear-Three-Quarter.webp" alt="Ferrari 12Cilindri Spider-Rear-Three-Quarter.jpg" style="width: 100%; height: auto;">Of course, any opportunity I got between the near incessant showers, I dropped the top to hear that V12 howl. Sure, it’s slightly muted because of a pair of catalytic convertors and petrol particulate filters, but in ‘Race’ mode, with the flaps in the exhaust open, it’s enough to make your hair stand on end and send chills down your spine. But, really, what stands out in this car is its sheer poise and balance. No one does cohesion quite like Ferrari. You get bragging rights and the ultimate tech of course, but what really sets this machine apart is its breadth of capability, which is in a league of one. This really is a car that you can drive cross-country to your favourite racetrack, have a blast at the limit, and then drive home again at breakneck speed – in true GT fashion.

Ferrari 12Cilindri Spider First Drive Review: Versatility in Verde

We drove a naturally-aspirated V12, convertible Ferrari offering maximum involvement but a torrential downpour threatened to spoil the party.

We were quite eager to&nbsp;get our hands on this bike since it was first teased at&nbsp;<a href="https://www.autox.com/news/bike-news/eicma-2024-top-india-bound-motorcycles-to-watch-out-for-118832/">EICMA</a>. The <a href="https://www.autox.com/reviews/bike-reviews/ktm-390-adventure-review-first-ride-107195/">old 390 Adventure</a> was a blast, don't get me wrong, but it had its quirks, especially when pushed off-road. After spending six months commuting on the Royal Enfield Himalayan, I was curious to see how this new KTM stacked up. Well, we recently had the opportunity to thoroughly ride and test it, and let me tell you that it's a significant leap forward. This isn't just a refresh; it's a full-fledged evolution.<div style="width: 100%; height: auto;" class="post-image">

 <h2>KTM 390 Adventure First Ride Review: Design and Quality </h2>Let's talk about the design first. It's definitely going to spark debate, but personally, I like it. That rugged rally-inspired Dakar vibe works in its favour. The 21-inch front and
17-inch rear spoke wheels with tubeless Apollo Tramplr tyres are a huge plus.
The WP Apex suspension is another standout upgrade, offering a noticeably more
compliant and capable ride. An India-specific tweak – the offset rear monoshock
– lowers the seat height to 830mm in the Adventure variant and 825mm in the
Adventure X. On top of that, ground clearance has been increased to a solid

 The pigmented body panels are a nice touch, promising better scratch resistance since they're painted during the moulding process itself. And the standard kit – knuckle guards, engine guard, and bash plate – is quite useful for off-road scrapes. The forged foot levers feel solid, and you can remove the rubber inserts for better grip while riding&nbsp;in the dirt. My only gripe? The flimsy all-plastic knuckle guards&nbsp;–&nbsp;they would have been much better with metal reinforcements.&nbsp;<img src="https://images.autox.com/uploads/2025/02/1740405792534-0shu-KTM-390-Adventure-Web-7.webp" alt="KTM 390 Adventure Web 7.jpg" style="width: 100%; height: auto;">The new bespoke ADV tubular trellis subframe – KTM claims
that it’s 10% more rigid – feels solid and enhances the bike’s overall
stability. Despite the weight dropping to 183kgs, the 14.5-litre fuel tank
remains unchanged. The overall fit and finish are excellent, offering a premium
feel throughout. The 5-inch bonded TFT screen, borrowed from the new 390 Duke,
is crisp, clear, and easily readable even in bright sunlight. <h2>KTM 390 Adventure First Ride Review: Ergonomics and Features </h2>The riding position is comfortable and upright – perfect for
long days in the saddle. The new KTM 390 Adventure feels large when you're off
it but seems to shrink around you once you get on and start moving. The
controls are intuitive, and the switchgear is easy to reach. Cruise control is
a welcome addition for highway stints, and the ride modes – Rain, Street, and
Off-Road – are simple to toggle through. A big plus is that ride mode settings
remain unchanged even after switching off the ignition – a thoughtful touch
indeed!
Phone connectivity and navigation feel slick, and the
voice-activated calling is a nice convenience. Unlike the Duke 390, which can
only receive calls, the 390 Adventure allows you to make calls directly from
the bike. Finally, the electronics suite – which includes cornering ABS,
switchable cornering traction control, Quickshifter+, and customizable ride

The LC4c
399cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine is noticeably smoother, thanks to
the 5mm offset crank. It delivers better low-end grunt than the previous model
but still loves to be revved. Peak power kicks in 1,000rpm sooner, making it
more accessible.
That said, there’s still a noticeable lag before the bike
starts moving. I noticed that it stalled a couple of times when
setting off from a standstill off-road, but far less frequently than the old

seconds and 0 – 100 km/h in 6.2 seconds – both quicker than the previous
generation model. The improved mid-range power is quite evident, delivering
faster 30 – 70 km/h roll-on acceleration.
Cruise control, which activates above 20 km/h, performs well
on the highway, especially when paired with Quickshifter+, making for a smooth

curved radiator and reprofiled shrouds that divert hot air away from the rider
– a definite and noticeable upgrade. The underbelly exhaust, with its claimed
400mm water-wading capacity, handles water crossings with ease, even when the
water level reaches the engine guards.<img src="https://images.autox.com/uploads/2025/02/1740406032170-z2yg-KTM-390-Adventure-Web-3.webp" alt="KTM 390 Adventure Web 3.jpg" style="width: 100%; height: auto;">The WP Apex suspension has received a significant upgrade,
offering a much more compliant ride, as it effortlessly absorbs bumps and rough
terrain. The adjustable open-cartridge system provides 30 steps of compression
and rebound adjustment at the front, 20 steps at the rear, and 10 steps of
preload adjustment at the rear, allowing for fine-tuning across various riding
conditions.
While the increased suspension travel is a welcome
improvement, I did notice the front forks bottoming out a couple of times
during intense off-road testing – enough to throw me off the line slightly. That
said, it’s a fair trade-off for the bike’s sharp on-road dynamics and a huge
improvement over the previous model’s overly stiff setup, which was a common

 Off-road, the bike feels light, balanced, and predictable in
technical sections. Compared to the Himalayan, it’s noticeably sharper and more
responsive. The Apollo Tramplr tyres performed decently across varied on- and
off-road conditions. However, since we didn’t lower the tyre pressure when
going off-road, the front end lacked a bit of bite.
The brakes – a 320mm floating disc with a twin-piston calliper
up front and a 240mm rear disc with a single-piston calliper – are strong and

The wait is over. The 2025 KTM 390 Adventure is here, and it's a game-changer. We rode it, pushing it to its limits, and here's our honest take.

Ather introduced their revolutionary Magic Twist regenerative braking system with the 450 Apex, a limited edition model. Then they brought traction control with the Rizta and now, you get the best of both worlds with the updated 450X…and also the new Apex. I got a chance to test out the Magic Twist and the updated traction control system on the new scooter at a go-kart track and even on some off-road patches. So, how good is the 450X now?

<h2>2025 Ather 450X Review: New Modes and Regen</h2>

The first thing I want to highlight is the multi-level traction control system. While the Rizta had a simpler on-and-off toggle, the new 450 scooters get multiple levels — Rain, Road and Rally. You can also completely switch it off if you want. As one would expect, the traction control system is the most active when you select Rain while Road is meant for daily usage.

In the Rally mode, the traction control is a lot more lenient and it allows you to kick up some dirt. We tested the modes on some loose sand and it worked really well. There is an appreciable difference when testing the scooter in extreme conditions. While the 450X, does not really need a traction control system, it is good to see it nonetheless.

The 450X still gets the same 8.4bhp motor that is capable of producing 26Nm. It is still just as fun to ride and just as responsive too. Ather has introduced a new set of tyres from MRF&nbsp;with the updated scooters. These tyres have been developed specially for the 450 and are meant to offer more range while not compromising grip. And I must say, that I hardly noticed any issue with the grip from the new rubber. Combined with the new regen braking, this setup is claimed to substantially increase the real-world range of the scooter. As per Ather, the TruRange of the 3.7kWh model has gone up from 105km to 130km. That is a healthy boost and we will be eager to test it out when we have the scooter for a longer time.

What I do feel is a missed opportunity is that there is still no ABS. I think adding ABS over traction control would have been more useful. I did find myself locking the brakes a couple of times when on the track. While you may argue that people ride more gently on the road, let me remind you that the conditions out there can be rather unpredictable. Also, now that the 450X supports traction control modes and regen levels along with ride modes, I think that Ather should display them on the screen as well. This would help the rider in knowing what levels of various settings the scooter is in, rather than having to dig deep into menus.

<h2>2025 Ather 450X Review: Colour Options and UI Updates</h2>

Ather has not changed any aspect of the scooter’s design so it remains the same as before. There are, however, two new colour options available now - Hyper Sand and Stealth Blue. I particularly like the Hyper Sand colour options as it has a nice finish and looks rather refreshing. As a bonus, if you get this colour option, you will not have to worry about the scooter looking dirty because of the shade.

The new 450 scooters also get Atherstack 6 as part of the software suite. The instrument cluster is the same touch unit and is packed with features. However, the response is still lethargic when you use the map screen. There are noticeable stutters while you pan around. I also noticed that while most of the interface operation is smooth, there are the occasional hiccups and moments when the screen does not react as quickly.

<h2>2025 Ather 450X Review: Is it better?</h2>

Altogether, the 450X remains a smart and fast scooter that is more feature-rich than ever before. I feel the Magic Twist is a great addition and one that will find a lot of daily use. The traction control might be less useful but is a good safety feature still.

As for the pricing, it has gone up ever so slightly by Rs 6,400 for the base 450X and Rs 2,000 for the 450X with the bigger 3.7kWh battery pack.

Similarly, the 450 Apex has also seen a mere increase of Rs 5,001 on the effective ex-showroom price in Bengaluru. And Ather is throwing in the Halo helmet with the Apex to make it more lucrative. Altogether, despite the price hike, the scooters remain smart and safe options to pick if you are looking for an EV in this segment.
