<p>Mahindra and Mahindra (M&amp;M) started its automotive operations in India with the assembly of the Willys Jeep and soon ventured into the production of Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs). Originally known as a maker of Jeeps, the Mahindra Bolero was the vehicle that truly put Mahindra on the map as a large-scale passenger car maker.</p>

<p>The range of Mahindra vehicles, as we know them today, was first introduced back in the year 2000.</p>

<p>The first-ever Mahindra car in India was the Bolero which was the first SUV produced by the company. The Bolero quickly found a strong customer base in rural and semi-urban areas and it has gone on to become the highest-selling UV produced by Mahindra, till date. To cater to a growing demand for SUVs, the company soon after launched the Scorpio in 2002 which helped establish Mahindra as one of the most prominent SUV makers in the country. Prior to the Bolero and Scorpio, Mahindra was selling Jeeps such as the MM540, MM775 and the Armada MUV. Adding to that instant success was also the aggressively-set Mahindra car prices.</p>

<p>Therefore, over the years, Mahindra has garnered the reputation for building rugged, off-road capability vehicles with strong levels of refinement and luxury. Back in the day, the company also ventured into the production of Mahindra electric vehicles through its subsidiary, Mahindra Electric with models such as the E-Verito and e2o Plus. <p>Mahindra car models, as of 2020, comprises a pretty comprehensive line-up in the market that includes the Mahindra Thar, Bolero, TUV300, XUV500, KUV100, XUV300, Scorpio, Marazzo,and Alturas G4.</p>

<p>The manufacturer’s R&amp;D facilities in the United States and India continue to strive to deliver cutting-edge tech for all Mahindra cars amongst other products, with a helping hand from its South Korean subsidiary – SsangYong.</p>


<p><em><strong>The XUV300 is undoubtedly an impressive product, and with the addition of an automatic it becomes an even more complete vehicle. But is this AMT any good?</strong></em></p>

<p>After a couple of unsuccessful attempts, <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/mahindra/">Mahindra</a> finally has an attractive and wholesome sub-4 metre SUV in the XUV300. Of course, they’ve taken substantial help from their Korean subsidiary, but there’s nothing wrong with asking family for help, is there?&nbsp;<br />
At the time of its launch in February, the only thing missing in the XUV300 was the option of an automatic transmission. But now, Mahindra has ticked this box by fitting an AMT transmission to the diesel variant. While the diesel motor with the manual transmission is quite tractable, what’s it like when paired with an AMT?</p>

<p><strong>Swapping three pedals for two&nbsp;</strong><br />
Although the XUV300 comes with both petrol and diesel engines, Mahindra has only offered an AMT in the latter. It’s powered by the same 1.5-litre 4-cylinder motor that develops 115bhp and 300Nm. The 6-speed AMT performs smoothly for the most part. In the auto mode, both upshifts and downshifts are impressive, especially at moderate to high speeds. At lower speeds, however, the transmission tends to make its presence known somewhat – which is what we’ve come to expect with AMTs though. And while we didn’t get to drive it in heavy traffic, we feel that the twitchiness shouldn’t be too troublesome.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Unlike some other AMTs, this one doesn’t seem overeager to upshift. But it’s best to leave it to its own devices. The minute you put in manual mode, the nosedive during shifts becomes a lot more prominent – especially when you’re a little generous with the accelerator pedal.&nbsp;</p>

<p>But, with 300Nm of torque that’s available at as low as 1,500rpm, it conceals its lag rather well. While the transmission isn’t as smooth and seamless as traditional automatics, it’s certainly a lot better than some of the other AMTs on the market.</p>

<p>Aside from the obvious convenience of a two-pedal setup, the XUV300 also offers great ease of driving, thanks to the creep function. Release the brake, and the car gradually moves forward even before your foot finds the accelerator – this ensures a relaxed drive not just on inclines but also in slow moving traffic. The 1.5-litre motor, meanwhile, is refined and has a strong mid-range – which makes the XUV exceedingly stress-free and tractable.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Ride &amp; handling is ace&nbsp;</strong><br />
The XUV300 has all the right credentials for being a good handling machine – a long wheelbase, short height (in comparison to the competition) and, most importantly, a rigid chassis. All these somewhat make up for the relatively soft suspension setup, allowing it to have an acceptable performance around corners. When going fast around bends, the baby XUV’s lateral movement is evident, but it doesn’t make the car nervous. While the handling is neutral, it’s the ride quality of the XUV300 that impresses the most. The way it rides over potholes and bad roads is simply commendable.</p>

<p><strong>Pleasing to the eyes&nbsp;</strong><br />
This XUV300 is based on the SsangYong Tivoli, but Mahindra has made plenty of changes to the design to suit Indian requirements. At the top of the list is the chrome grill and the imposing Daytime Running Lamps, both of which give the XUV300 a wide and butch stance. The rear bumper has been chopped off to ensure that the XUV300 fits within the sub-4 metre mandate. Unfortunately, the wide rear haunches and stubby bumper don’t work well together and make it look a bit odd.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Our XUV was the W8 Option trim, and just like the manual transmission variant, this one comes with a decent pack of features – including touchscreen infotainment, dual-zone climate control, leatherette upholstery and an electric tailgate release. In terms of safety, it comes fitted with two front airbags, disc brakes on four wheels, hill hold assist, and more.</p>

<p><strong>Finally&nbsp;</strong><br />
When we first drove the XUV300, we were really impressed, and when we compared it to its competition we were impressed some more. With the introduction of an AMT, the product range is now complete. Some would prefer an automatic option in the petrol variant, and we can tell you that it’s being worked on too. With a new 1.2-litre petrol in the pipeline, the Nashik-based carmaker has deferred offering of a petrol automatic for the moment.&nbsp;</p>

<p>But, back to the topic at hand, the diesel AMT certainly performs better than some of the others in this class. But the biggest challenge for Mahindra will be the price. An expected `30,000 hike for the AMT would push it close to the `12 lakh (ex-showroom) mark for the W8 Option trim. This would bring it close to cars like the Hyundai Creta and the petrol-powered Venue, which comes with a superior DCT, and this could be a potential problem area for the XUV300. &nbsp;</p>

Mahindra XUV300 AMT Review: First Drive

Upon its launch, Mahindra officials were clear about their plan to introduce an AMT version of the XUV300. Now that it's here, let's see how the XUV300 diesel AMT fares through our tests.

<p><em><strong>The sales of diesel-powered cars are slowing, which means that carmakers don’t have a choice but to introduce petrol variants of models that they hope will be real contenders. Cue the XUV300 petrol…</strong></em></p>

<p>When we drove <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/mahindra/">Mahindra’s</a> new baby, the XUV300, prior to its launch in Goa, we couldn’t stop singing praises of this new sub-4-metre SUV. However, we soon realised that we had only done half the job in the first-drive review. And that’s because, during the media drive, we only got to sample the diesel variant of the vehicle. But, surprisingly, a lot of people have been asking us about its petrol sibling. So, naturally, we rang the folks at Mahindra and got hold of a petrol variant of the XUV300.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>What’s under the hood?</strong><br />
Since everything – space, interior and features – is identical to its diesel sibling, which we’ve already covered in great detail (check it here -&nbsp;<a href="https://www.autox.com/reviews/car-reviews/mahindra-xuv300-review-first-drive-105432/" rel="bookmark" title="Mahindra XUV300 Review: First Drive">Mahindra XUV300 Review</a>), we’re solely going to focus on the petrol powertrain and its driveability here.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Under the hood, you have a 1.2-litre, in-line, three-cylinder turbo-petrol motor that shares its basic architecture with the KUV100’s engine. But thanks to forced-induction and a couple of other modifications, this unit churns out 109bhp and 200Nm of torque. Like the diesel motor, the refinement levels here are impressive too, but you can feel the gear-lever shake at idle – owing to the fact that it is, after all, a three-pot motor.&nbsp;</p>

<p>There’s a lot of lag below 2,000rpm, which is expected, given that it is a diminutive turbo-petrol that’s under the bonnet. However, once the turbo spools to life, the XUV300 gains momentum pretty quickly. And while the power and torque delivery is quite peaky, this motor revs quite spiritedly – meaning that you’ll find yourself riding the torque wave even with the slightest push of the accelerator pedal. In fact, it’s so free-revving that you tend to hit the rev-limiter – which is just below 6,000rpm – very easily. Beyond 5,000rpm though, the performance tapers off quite noticeably.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Driving it in traffic can be a bit tricky at first, for the clutch pedal has a long travel. And while it’s super light to operate, feeling its biting point is a bit of a task. Couple this with the lag of the motor, and you may even end up stalling the vehicle on a couple of occasions. The 6-speed gearbox has long throws – just like the diesel – and has tall ratios for better fuel-efficiency. And this invariably kills its driveability in urban environments, because at city speeds every gear change effectively lands you right back into the dead zone of the turbo. Also, when you ease your foot on the accelerator, the deceleration is quite jerky because of the abrupt cut-off of the fuel supply. It feels as if you’re tapping the brake pedal every time you take your foot off the throttle.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Is the ride still stellar?&nbsp;</strong><br />
The ride quality of the petrol version remains stellar. It gobbles up every undulation on the road without a care in the world. And once you realise this, there’s no slowing down for potholes or other imperfections on the road. The XUV300 simply glides over everything. Like the diesel, the seats are supremely comfortable and you get all the bells and whistles in the top-end W8 (O) variant.&nbsp;</p>

<p>But, compared to the diesel, the steering feels a bit too lifeless. And, at high speeds, you can feel the front-end wavering – causing you to constantly feed in corrections through the wheel. This is perhaps because the front end of the petrol is lighter than the diesel – owing to the reduced weight of the petrol engine. Of course, Sport mode firms up the steering wheel, but even this can’t stop the front from flailing at high speeds. &nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Bye or buy?</strong><br />
The XUV300 petrol isn’t a bad choice, once you learn the nuances of its motor. But, frankly, it left me wanting more. The fact is that the diesel motor is peppier and offers better drivability. So, my choice remains the diesel! &nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

Mahindra XUV300 Petrol Review, First Drive

The XUV300 proved out to be a serious contender in the compact SUV space. But with sluggish sales and a mere difference in costs, diesel-powered cars are slowing. Is it as good as the diesel? We find out.

<p><strong><em>The XUV300 is yet another attempt by Mahindra to make a mark in the sub-4m compact SUV segment. So, what makes the XUV300 different from its predecessors? Time to find out…</em></strong></p>

<p>When you think of a <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/mahindra/">Mahindra</a> SUV today, you think of qualities like toughness, ladder-frame underpinnings, and all things macho. It’s not an exaggerated or unrealistic image. In fact, Mahindra seems to pride itself on this well-crafted image. While that’s all well and good, the problem is that this rough-and-tough approach doesn’t always work. Take, for instance, the sub-4m <a href="https://www.autox.com/suv-cars-in-india/">SUV</a> segment – this is one segment where Mahindra has been able to generate only perfunctory interest in their offerings. And it’s no secret that the <a href="https://www.autox.com/news/car-news/mahindra-tuv300-facelift-launched-105917/">TUV300</a> was found wanting, especially in comparison to the likes of the <a href="https://www.autox.com/reviews/car-reviews/maruti-suzuki-vitara-brezza-review-first-drive/">Maruti Suzuki Brezza</a> or the <a href="https://www.autox.com/reviews/car-reviews/2017-ford-ecosport-facelift-review-first-drive/">Ford EcoSport.</a></p>

<p>Over time, Mahindra has come to realise that not everyone is a wannabe alpha male and that most buyers in this segment actually do want a pseudo-SUV – one that’s feature-laden and drives like a car. So, with some help from their global partners, Mahindra has now brought in the <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/mahindra/xuv300/">XUV300</a> – a brand new compact-SUV based on a proven global platform and one that has all the makings of a world-class vehicle. So, has Mahindra finally deciphered the sub-4m mystery? Let’s find out…</p>

<p><em><strong>With love from Korea</strong></em></p>

<p>The fact that the XUV300 is based on the same platform as the <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/ssangyong/tivoli/">SsangYong Tivoli</a> is well known. And if you didn’t already know, well, you do now. But while its Korean sibling has a body that stretches to 4.2 metres, Mahindra’s offering is 3.99m long. Of course, Mahindra had to economise in terms of size to squeeze the XUV300 under the 4m mark. You see, the bumpers have been chopped on both ends, leaving the rear end looking a bit slab-sided. The good thing, however, is that the chassis hasn’t been touched. The wheelbase is 2,600mm – same as the Tivoli – which makes it the longest amongst its direct rivals. In fact, it’s 10mm longer than even the Hyundai Creta. The XUV300 is also the widest in the segment, at 1.82m. However, at 1.62m in height, it’s slightly dwarfed by both the <a href="https://www.autox.com/news/car-news/maruti-suzuki-brezza-cng-launched-in-india-specs-features-variants-explained-112735/">Brezza</a> and the <a href="https://www.autox.com/news/car-news/ford-ecosport-facelift-in-the-works-109937/">EcoSport</a>.</p>

<p>One of the biggest highlights of the XUV300 is its design. The overall silhouette – with the exception of the stubby rear-end – is virtually identical to the Tivoli, but Mahindra’s in-house design team has peppered it with a fair amount of chrome, extended LED DRLs and aggressive creases. Sure, it doesn’t look intimidating, but it does have that SUV appeal that most of us want from our cars these days. To my eyes, the rear three-quarter is the only section that seems a little odd – the squashed bumper, massive haunches and rear wheels that stretch right to the edge are dead giveaways that it’s been tailored to fit within the sub-4m segment.</p>

<p>The top-of-the-line W8 (O) variant, which is what we tested, gets dual-tone exterior paint and 17-inch diamond cut alloys, which look neat and classy. Overall, I think it’s a job well done by Mahindra’s design team, because, for once, they haven’t gone overboard as they did with the first-gen <a href="https://www.autox.com/news/car-news/mahindra-xuv500-will-be-temporarily-discontinued-after-the-launch-of-xuv700-109293/">XUV500</a> or, more recently, the <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/mahindra/kuv100-nxt/">KUV100</a>.</p>

<p><em><strong>Features aplenty</strong></em></p>

<p>The XUV300’s rivals, the Brezza and EcoSport, are packed with everything including the kitchen sink. So, to beat the competition, Mahindra had to pack the XUV300 with everything they could get their hands on – and then some. While familiar stuff, like projector lamps, a touchscreen infotainment system, with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an engine start-stop function, keyless entry and ignition, sunroof, electrically powered ORVMs, rear camera with sensors and an auto-dimming inside mirror are all offered in the top-spec variant, it also gets first-in-segment features, like front parking sensors, dual-zone air-conditioning, heated ORVMs, a tyre pressure monitoring system, disc brakes on all four wheels and three steering assistance modes – Normal, Comfort and Sport. If you think about it, there was a time, in the not too distant past, when these features were usually reserved for high-end luxury cars. So, full marks to Mahindra for moving the game forward for mainstream car buyers.</p>

<p>Likewise, in terms of safety, the XUV300 has ABS and front airbags as standard. The top-end variant, however, comes with 7 airbags – including a driver knee airbag – which is, again, a segment first. Its NCAP rating is still awaited. However, Mahindra has assured us that the results will be out soon. And given the fact that the Marazzo scored a 4-star rating, we can expect the XUV300 to fare quite well in its crash tests.&nbsp;</p>

<p><em><strong>First impressions</strong></em></p>

<p>The moment I stepped inside the cabin and stationed myself behind the wheel, a few things became immediately apparent. The driver’s seat is extremely comfortable and supportive, but the ivory white upholstery is going to be a real pain to maintain. The feel of plastics is decent – if not the best. And the entire cabin exudes a sense of sturdiness. For instance, the doors are heavy and shut with a solid thud. The design and layout of the dashboard, especially the air-conditioning controls, are a bit anachronistic – at least, that’s how they appear to me.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Coming to the touchscreen infotainment system – it’s packed with a slew of features and is easy to use, but it lacks the crispness of Ford’s brilliant SYNC system or the intuitiveness of Maruti’s interface. Now, in terms of cabin space, the Mahindra emerges as the undisputed victor amongst its rivals. The leg and shoulder room for passengers at the back is abundant, plus the seats are supremely comfortable. In fact, I’d go as far as to say that it’s the most spacious car in its segment. To be honest, it almost feels as big as the Creta.</p>

<p>Let’s now get to the big question – how does it drive? The moment I fired up the engine, the first thing that came to my notice were the refinement levels. At idle, it hums just like a Buddhist monk. The insulation inside is so good that you’d have a hard time figuring out whether the motor is a petrol or diesel. The XUV300 comes with two engine options on offer – a brand new 1.2-litre turbo-petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel. Our test car had the latter.</p>

<p>The diesel engine here is not an unfamiliar unit – it’s the same 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo motor that debuted with the <a href="https://www.autox.com/reviews/car-reviews/mahindra-marazzo-review-first-drive-104442/">Mahindra Marazzo</a> last year. However, in the XUV300, it produces 115bhp and a whopping 300Nm of torque. Power transmission duties are carried out by a 6-speed gearbox, which sends drive only to the front wheels.</p>

<p>Before setting off, I noticed that the clutch had quite some travel and the six-speeder had long throws. That said, the clutch action is extraordinarily light, and the engine… well, to put it simply, it completely overshadows everything. There’s slight lag below 1,500rpm, but from there on it offers a strong and relentless surge of torque. The performance is brisk, and given the amount of torque on offer (300Nm), the gearbox can afford to have relatively tall ratios – sparing you the hassle of frequent gearshifts. But it’s the refinement of the motor that impresses you the most. It does exhibit some resistance, but only after 3,500rpm. However, in my experience, you never really need to rev this motor that high – it offers more than enough performance in the mid-range for all kinds of driving.</p>

<p>In the ride and handling department, the XUV300 doesn’t disappoint either. With a stellar ride quality, it glides over bumps without a care in the world. Potholes, speed breakers and bumps, the suspension dismisses everything that comes in its way. And the best part is that all this doesn’t compromise the handling. Despite a softer setup, body movements of the car are predictable. However, it does tend to roll a bit when provoked.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The XUV300 owes its stability to its rigid chassis, short rear overhang and long wheelbase. That said, it doesn’t feel as enthusiastic as the Brezza in terms of handling. I couldn’t really stretch its legs on the backroads of Goa, so any comment on its high-speed stability – until we test it further – would be mere speculation.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As mentioned before, the XUV300 comes with three steering modes – Comfort, Normal and Sport. The first two are more or less the same, but things change a bit in Sport mode. The steering, for one, becomes hefty, although there isn’t much feedback from the wheel even in this mode. While driving through some fast switchbacks, the steering comes off as a bit sluggish and takes time to self-centre.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The braking performance of the XUV300 is phenomenal. Discs on all four wheels mean that you come to a dead stop the moment you drop the anchors. The pedal feel and feedback is progressive, and not spongy as it is in other Mahindra vehicles, like the Scorpio and TUV300.</p>

<p><em><strong>Finally&nbsp;</strong></em></p>

<p>A solid 4 out of 5. All things considered, I’d go so far as to describe the XUV300 as a phenomenal offering! Mahindra has absolutely nailed every aspect of this vehicle. It has almost everything – from appealing looks to cabin space and from great features to driveability. The only thing missing – I said almost, didn’t I? – &nbsp;is an automatic gearbox, which is still awaited.&nbsp;<br />
Mahindra has played the pricing card well too. So, is this the best sub-4m SUV available? Well, it’s too early to say, but that could very well be the case, because, from what I can tell, it has the makings of a winner. &nbsp;</p>

<p>The top-of-the-line MY23 XUV300&nbsp;TGDi variants and petrol W8 (O) models qualify for advantages worth up to Rs 1.75 lakh and Rs 1.73 lakh, each. On the other hand, the MY24 versions of these variants get benefits valued at Rs 1.5 lakh and Rs 1.48 lakh, respectively.&nbsp;The XUV300 W4 and W2 models feature advantages worth Rs 51,935-73,000 and Rs 45,000, each, whereas the W6 models come with discounts ranging from Rs 94,000 to Rs 1.33 lakh, depending on the chosen engine.</p>

<h2>Mahindra XUV400 February Offers</h2>

<p>Customers can receive benefits worth up to Rs 4.4 lakh on the 2023 <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/mahindra/xuv400/">XUV400</a>&nbsp;EC with the 34.5kWh battery and 3.2kW charger, the EC with the 7.2kW charger (without ESC), and the top-spec EL (39.4kWh battery, 7.2kW and without ESC) in February. <h2>Mahindra XUV300 Facelift: What do New Spy Shots Reveal?</h2>

<p>The XUV300 facelift appears to be in its final stages of testing, as the test mule features&nbsp;C-shaped LED DRLs, new headlights, and redesigned taillamps with an&nbsp;LED light bar. The mid-life facelift for the SUV will also incorporate&nbsp;some tweaks to the bumpers, bonnet, and grille. <p>The face-lifted version of the Mahindra XUV300 is expected to retain the same engine units –&nbsp;a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol, a 1.2-litre T-GDI turbo-petrol, and&nbsp;a 1.5-litre diesel engine. <h2>Mahindra XUV300: Powertrain Options</h2>

<p>Three different engines are offered for the sub-4 metre compact SUV: a 1.2-litre petrol turbocharged multipoint fuel injection (TCMPFI), a 1.2-litre mStallion turbocharged inter-cooled gasoline direct injection (TGDi), as well as a 1.5-litre diesel unit. The TGDi engine (TurboSport variant) cranks out 129bhp of maximum power&nbsp;and 230Nm of torque, the diesel engine puts&nbsp;out 115bhp&nbsp;and 300Nm of maximum torque, and the TCMPFI engine produces 108bhp of peak power&nbsp;and 200Nm of maximum torque. The TCMPFI and diesel engines both provide 6-speed MT and 6-speed AMT transmission options, whereas the TGDi only offers a 6-speed MT. This powertrain option was formerly offered starting with the W6 version. Further, it takes five seconds for the SUV to go from 0 to 60km/h.</p>

<h2>Mahindra XUV300: Feature List</h2>

<p>The XUV300 from the homegrown manufacturer&nbsp;receives updates to the feature list in addition to the powertrain. All the&nbsp;W4 variants now come standard with a sunroof, which was previously only available on W6 variants and higher. On top of that, a panoramic sunroof will be added by Mahindra with the XUV300's facelift which will likely arrive next year. The model&nbsp;also&nbsp;has amenities including dual-zone climate control, a 6-way driver's seat that can be adjusted, a 9-inch infotainment screen with connectivity options like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, steering-mounted controls, cruise control, a semi-digital instrument cluster,&nbsp;auto-dimming IRVM, and rain-sensing wipers, among others.&nbsp;A flat second-row floor with a 60:40 split ratio and 257 litre&nbsp;of cargo capacity are further features of the car. Moreover, since the XUV300&nbsp;is a subcompact SUV, it has 180mm of ground clearance.&nbsp;</p>

<p>On the safety front, it comes equipped with up to six airbags, all-wheel disc brakes, front and rear parking sensors, electronic stability control (ESC), and rollover mitigation.</p>

<h2>Mahindra XUV300: Price and Rivals</h2>

<p>As mentioned earlier, the Kia Sonet, the Hyundai Venue, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, and the forthcoming&nbsp;Tata Nexon facelift are several products on sale that the Mahindra XUV300 continues to compete against.&nbsp;While the TurboSport W4 trim costs Rs 9.29 lakh (ex-showroom), the W2 variant&nbsp;has a price tag of&nbsp;Rs 7.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The ex-showroom prices for the SUV now range between Rs 7.99 lakh and Rs 14.59 lakh. Mahindra has launched two new base models for its popular XUV300 lineup: W2 and W4 TurboSport. The ex-showroom prices for the SUV begin at Rs 7.99 lakh and go up to Rs 14.59 lakh. <p>The most important change on the XUV300 TurboSport Series is the new engine, so let's talk about it first. What you get is a 1.2-litre TGDi turbo-petrol motor, producing&nbsp;129bhp and 230Nm. Interestingly, it has the over-boost function, which raises torque to 250Nm for short bursts, allowing it to have a 0 to 60km/h time of&nbsp;just 5 seconds, which is pretty quick.</p>

<p>There are also four new colour options for the XUV300 TGDi – Blazing Bronze with a black roof, Napoli Black with a white roof, Pearl White with a black roof, and Blazing Bronze in monotone. In addition to the new colours, the older monotone Pearl White and Napoli Black are still available. The XUV300 gets a sportier theme, thanks to the red grille inserts, all-black ORVMs, an all-black leatherette interior, chrome-finished pedals, and a dual-tone exterior.</p>

<p>Mahindra has finally launched the SsangYong Tivoli based compact SUV in India. Christened the XUV300 in December 2018, it’s priced starting at Rs 7.9 lakh for the base petrol trim. The top-spec diesel carries a price tag of Rs 10.8 lakh. Mahindra has only introduced the XUV300 in manual transmission variants. An automatic option, however, may arrive later.</p>

<p>Just like the larger XUV, this one too gets a Cheetah inspired design. At the front, it has been fitted with the signature Mahindra grille – much like the XUV500. Other elements like the Headlights with DRLs and the machine cut alloy wheels add to the overall appeal of the car.</p>

<p>Mahindra promises that the car will come loaded with features – something that we experienced during our first drive of the car. The top-spec trim gets class leading 7 airbags, auto dimming IRVM, tyre pressure and temperature monitoring system, disc brakes for all four wheels, steering modes and front parking sensors. While these are some of the stand-out features, the baby XUV also gets the industry standard touchscreen infotainment with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, button start, keyless entry, electrically adjustable ORVMs and more.</p>

<p>The XUV gets both petrol and diesel engine options. The latter is derived from the same 1.5-litre motor in the Marazzo. In this car, it develops 115bhp and 300Nm, making it the torquiest motor in its class. The petrol, on the other hand, is a 1.2-litre turbocharged motor that pushes 110 horses and 200Nm to the front wheel. Both engines come paired with a 6-speed manual.</p>

<p>Mahindra &amp; Mahindra has announced that the upcoming Mahindra XUV300 sub-compact SUV is now ready for bookings across all Mahindra dealerships in India.</p>

<p>Mahindra will offer the XUV300 with both petrol and diesel engine options&nbsp;– a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder turbo diesel that develops 300Nm of torque&nbsp;and a 1.2-litre, four-cylinder&nbsp;petrol engine that churns out 200Nm of torque. The engines will be mated to 6-speed gearboxes. The XUV300 will be offered in three variants <span lang="EN-US" style="background:white"><span style="font-family:Arial"><span style="color:black">– W4, W6 &amp; W8&nbsp;&nbsp;</span></span></span>– with one optional trim, W8 (O). <p>The price of the XUV300 will be competitive and will be around Rs 8 – 12 lakh ex-showroom. The sub-compact SUV will be built at the company’s manufacturing facility at Nashik in Maharashtra. And, to my eyes, it’s an absolutely stunning machine – a design that, for some reason, the pictures simply do no justice! It’s clean and elegant, while being muscular and curvaceous at the same time. There’s a timelessness to the design, and I personally think it’ll age very well indeed.</p>

    
  
    
  


<h2>So, what’s all the fuss about?</h2>

<p>Well, the name is a dead giveaway – the car is pronounced Dodici Cilindri, which literally translates to 12 cylinders in Italian. The engine was so important to this machine – so central to Ferrari in fact – that they decided to name this car after its engine configuration. You see, across the industry, engines are either being downsized and turbocharged or hybridised, or both, so the idea of a naturally aspirated V12 is not just truly alluring but also incredibly courageous from the Prancing Horse. </p><p><img src="https://images.autox.com/uploads/2025/03/1741784948629-7w76-Ferrari-12Cilindri-Spider-Rear-View.webp" alt="Ferrari 12Cilindri Spider-Rear-View.jpg" style="width: 100%; height: auto;"></p><p>Now that’s not to say that Ferrari hasn’t also gone down the turbo and hybrid route already – in fact, with its performance flagship, the SF90, it’s attached a pair of turbos to a V8, not to mention added a battery pack and a set of motors to give it 1,000 horsepower and all-wheel drive. Meanwhile, in the achingly beautiful and spectacularly fast 296, it’s even gone down the V6 route (which is also turbocharged and hybridised) for the first time since the Dino in the 60s. And, of course, it’s also heading down the EV route, with its first all-electric supercar that will be revealed later this year.</p><p>But Ferrari also wants to retain the essence of its GT cars from the 50s and 60s, which is where the 12Cilindri comes in. And so, this successor to the 812 Superfast gave up its ultimate performance throne to the SF90 and instead embraced its GT roots to make the most of the V12 under the bonnet – which can be both incredibly refined but also insanely explosive, depending on what you do with your right foot.</p>

    
  
    
  


<h2>So, what’s under the hood?</h2>

<p>Now, we’ve been over the specs before, but it bears repeating – it’s a 6.5-litre V12 that produces a scarcely believable 128bhp per litre for a total power output of 818bhp at 9,250rpm and 678Nm at 7,250rpm. It redlines at, brace yourself, 9,500rpm, and it’s so incredibly smooth, plus it revs so fast thanks to its titanium conrods, that you can get up to the redline and not even know it unless you’re looking at the digital tach on the instrument cluster.</p><p><img src="https://images.autox.com/uploads/2025/03/1741784971851-vk7o-Ferrari-12Cilindri-Spider-1.webp" alt="Ferrari 12Cilindri Spider-1.jpg" style="width: 100%; height: auto;"></p><p>Yes, it reaches 100km/h in 2.9 seconds and 200km/h in 7.9 seconds from a standstill, but it also has a cabin outfitted with the finest handstitched Italian leather and all the tech you can possibly imagine. It gets three displays – one for the instrument cluster, one for the central screen, where you can connect your phone, and the third is a passenger screen integrated into the dash, so your unsuspecting co-driver can keep an eye on the revs as he or she hangs on for dear life.</p>
  
    
  


<p>Of course, in true Ferrari fashion, it’s got massive gear shift paddles mounted to the steering column – as opposed to onto the steering wheel – which is just how I like them because you always know where they are. The steering wheel has wiper controls and indicator buttons, as well the famous Manettino switch, which you use to control the driving modes. But it also has a very innocuous button on a panel off to one side of the steering wheel that’s marked HELE, which stands for ‘High Emotion, Low Emission.’ That’s Ferrari-speak for the Auto Start-Stop button. Most cars would have an ‘A’ inside a circle, but that just wouldn’t do on a Ferrari. But the thing is that it’s not contrived in the cabin of this car. It’s simply a result of the Ferrari mindset of passion and precision. Of course, they strive for absolute performance and aim for perfection, but at the heart of every decision is emotion – the emotion it evokes when you interact with the machine. And you get a sense of that ethos from everyone who works at Maranello, regardless of whether that person is in his or her first week or a veteran who’s been there for decades.

<h2>So, what’s it like from behind the wheel?</h2>

<p>Well, I would love to tell you that I spent my time in the 12Cilindri Spider bouncing off the 9,500rpm rev limiter, but in fact we were met with a torrential downpour that felt less like Southern Europe and more like South Mumbai in the monsoon. But what these conditions did was usher in a complete revelation in terms of just what this Ferrari GT is capable of.</p>

<p>You would imagine that an 800+ horsepower rear drive beast would be a terrifying experience in the pouring rain – especially on the tight and twisting coastal roads of Portugal, but in in truth, with the Manettino set to ‘Wet,’ it was almost as docile as a Fiat Panda. But the minute you bury your right foot into the carpet, it quickly turns into a thoroughbred stallion – but never a bucking Bronco. You can see the traction control button flashing away on the dash as you try and overwhelm the rear tyres, but the electronics are so well calibrated that it modulates the power perfectly to match the prevailing levels of grip. Sure, you can always get in over your head with that much power on tap but show a little restraint and the 12Cilindri will humour and entertain you in equal measure.</p><p><img src="https://images.autox.com/uploads/2025/03/1741785017763-ioei-Ferrari-12Cilindri-Spider-Rear-Three-Quarter.webp" alt="Ferrari 12Cilindri Spider-Rear-Three-Quarter.jpg" style="width: 100%; height: auto;"></p><p>Of course, any opportunity I got between the near incessant showers, I dropped the top to hear that V12 howl. Sure, it’s slightly muted because of a pair of catalytic convertors and petrol particulate filters, but in ‘Race’ mode, with the flaps in the exhaust open, it’s enough to make your hair stand on end and send chills down your spine. But, really, what stands out in this car is its sheer poise and balance. No one does cohesion quite like Ferrari. Sure, a lot of manufacturers do power and speed quite well, but no one does it with this much style and finesse.</p><p><img src="https://images.autox.com/uploads/2025/03/1741785044538-hxid-Ferrari-12Cilindri-Spider-Side-Profile.webp" alt="Ferrari 12Cilindri Spider-Side-Profile.jpg" style="width: 100%; height: auto;"></p>

    
  


<p>So, what you’re getting in the 12Cilindri is a level of performance &amp; style mated to a versatility &amp; usability that’s simply unmatched. You get bragging rights and the ultimate tech of course, but what really sets this machine apart is its breadth of capability, which is in a league of one. This really is a car that you can drive cross-country to your favourite racetrack, have a blast at the limit, and then drive home again at breakneck speed – in true GT fashion.</p>

Ferrari 12Cilindri Spider First Drive Review: Versatility in Verde

We drove a naturally-aspirated V12, convertible Ferrari offering maximum involvement but a torrential downpour threatened to spoil the party.

<p>We were quite eager to&nbsp;get our hands on this bike since it was first teased at&nbsp;<a href="https://www.autox.com/news/bike-news/eicma-2024-top-india-bound-motorcycles-to-watch-out-for-118832/">EICMA</a>. The <a href="https://www.autox.com/reviews/bike-reviews/ktm-390-adventure-review-first-ride-107195/">old 390 Adventure</a> was a blast, don't get me wrong, but it had its quirks, especially when pushed off-road. After spending six months commuting on the Royal Enfield Himalayan, I was curious to see how this new KTM stacked up. Well, we recently had the opportunity to thoroughly ride and test it, and let me tell you that it's a significant leap forward. This isn't just a refresh; it's a full-fledged evolution.</p><div style="width: 100%; height: auto;" class="post-image">

  <p><br></p><h2>KTM 390 Adventure First Ride Review: Design and Quality<br></h2><p>Let's talk about the design first. It's definitely going to spark debate, but personally, I like it. That rugged rally-inspired Dakar vibe works in its favour. The 21-inch front and
17-inch rear spoke wheels with tubeless Apollo Tramplr tyres are a huge plus.
The WP Apex suspension is another standout upgrade, offering a noticeably more
compliant and capable ride. An India-specific tweak – the offset rear monoshock
– lowers the seat height to 830mm in the Adventure variant and 825mm in the
Adventure X. On top of that, ground clearance has been increased to a solid
237mm, addressing a major concern from the previous model.</p><p><img src="https://images.autox.com/uploads/2025/02/1740405472650-uxpi-KTM-390-Adventure-Web-13.webp" alt="KTM 390 Adventure Web 13.jpg" style="width: 100%; height: auto;"></p>
  <p>The pigmented body panels are a nice touch, promising better scratch resistance since they're painted during the moulding process itself. And the standard kit – knuckle guards, engine guard, and bash plate – is quite useful for off-road scrapes. The forged foot levers feel solid, and you can remove the rubber inserts for better grip while riding&nbsp;in the dirt. My only gripe? The flimsy all-plastic knuckle guards&nbsp;–&nbsp;they would have been much better with metal reinforcements.&nbsp;</p><p><img src="https://images.autox.com/uploads/2025/02/1740405792534-0shu-KTM-390-Adventure-Web-7.webp" alt="KTM 390 Adventure Web 7.jpg" style="width: 100%; height: auto;"></p><p>The new bespoke ADV tubular trellis subframe – KTM claims
that it’s 10% more rigid – feels solid and enhances the bike’s overall
stability. Despite the weight dropping to 183kgs, the 14.5-litre fuel tank
remains unchanged. The overall fit and finish are excellent, offering a premium
feel throughout. The 5-inch bonded TFT screen, borrowed from the new 390 Duke,
is crisp, clear, and easily readable even in bright sunlight.<br></p><h2>KTM 390 Adventure First Ride Review: Ergonomics and Features<br></h2><p>The riding position is comfortable and upright – perfect for
long days in the saddle. The new KTM 390 Adventure feels large when you're off
it but seems to shrink around you once you get on and start moving. The
controls are intuitive, and the switchgear is easy to reach. Cruise control is
a welcome addition for highway stints, and the ride modes – Rain, Street, and
Off-Road – are simple to toggle through. A big plus is that ride mode settings
remain unchanged even after switching off the ignition – a thoughtful touch
indeed!</p>
<p>Phone connectivity and navigation feel slick, and the
voice-activated calling is a nice convenience. Unlike the Duke 390, which can
only receive calls, the 390 Adventure allows you to make calls directly from
the bike. Finally, the electronics suite – which includes cornering ABS,
switchable cornering traction control, Quickshifter+, and customizable ride

The LC4c
399cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine is noticeably smoother, thanks to
the 5mm offset crank. It delivers better low-end grunt than the previous model
but still loves to be revved. Peak power kicks in 1,000rpm sooner, making it
more accessible.</p>
<p>That said, there’s still a noticeable lag before the bike
starts moving. I noticed that it stalled a couple of times when
setting off from a standstill off-road, but far less frequently than the old
bike.</p><p><img src="https://images.autox.com/uploads/2025/02/1740405943424-ag92-KTM-390-Adventure-Web-15.webp" alt="KTM 390 Adventure Web 15.jpg" style="width: 100%; height: auto;"></p><p>Acceleration is brisk, with 0 – 60 km/h achieved in 2.6
seconds and 0 – 100 km/h in 6.2 seconds – both quicker than the previous
generation model. The improved mid-range power is quite evident, delivering
faster 30 – 70 km/h roll-on acceleration.
Cruise control, which activates above 20 km/h, performs well
on the highway, especially when paired with Quickshifter+, making for a smooth

curved radiator and reprofiled shrouds that divert hot air away from the rider
– a definite and noticeable upgrade. The underbelly exhaust, with its claimed
400mm water-wading capacity, handles water crossings with ease, even when the
water level reaches the engine guards.</p><p><img src="https://images.autox.com/uploads/2025/02/1740406032170-z2yg-KTM-390-Adventure-Web-3.webp" alt="KTM 390 Adventure Web 3.jpg" style="width: 100%; height: auto;"></p><p>The WP Apex suspension has received a significant upgrade,
offering a much more compliant ride, as it effortlessly absorbs bumps and rough
terrain. The adjustable open-cartridge system provides 30 steps of compression
and rebound adjustment at the front, 20 steps at the rear, and 10 steps of
preload adjustment at the rear, allowing for fine-tuning across various riding
conditions.
While the increased suspension travel is a welcome
improvement, I did notice the front forks bottoming out a couple of times
during intense off-road testing – enough to throw me off the line slightly. That
said, it’s a fair trade-off for the bike’s sharp on-road dynamics and a huge
improvement over the previous model’s overly stiff setup, which was a common

    Off-road, the bike feels light, balanced, and predictable in
technical sections. Compared to the Himalayan, it’s noticeably sharper and more
responsive. The Apollo Tramplr tyres performed decently across varied on- and
off-road conditions. However, since we didn’t lower the tyre pressure when
going off-road, the front end lacked a bit of bite.
The brakes – a 320mm floating disc with a twin-piston calliper
up front and a 240mm rear disc with a single-piston calliper – are strong and

It’s a complete and far more refined package. The improvements in engine
smoothness, suspension compliance, and overall capability are substantial. It
still retains the fun, hooligan character we love, but now it’s more versatile

The wait is over. The 2025 KTM 390 Adventure is here, and it's a game-changer. We rode it, pushing it to its limits, and here's our honest take.

<p>Ather introduced their revolutionary Magic Twist regenerative braking system with the 450 Apex, a limited edition model. Then they brought traction control with the Rizta and now, you get the best of both worlds with the updated 450X…and also the new Apex. I got a chance to test out the Magic Twist and the updated traction control system on the new scooter at a go-kart track and even on some off-road patches. So, how good is the 450X now?</p>

<h2>2025 Ather 450X Review: New Modes and Regen</h2>

<p>The first thing I want to highlight is the multi-level traction control system. While the Rizta had a simpler on-and-off toggle, the new 450 scooters get multiple levels — Rain, Road and Rally. You can also completely switch it off if you want. As one would expect, the traction control system is the most active when you select Rain while Road is meant for daily usage.</p>

<p>In the Rally mode, the traction control is a lot more lenient and it allows you to kick up some dirt. We tested the modes on some loose sand and it worked really well. There is an appreciable difference when testing the scooter in extreme conditions. While the 450X, does not really need a traction control system, it is good to see it nonetheless.</p>

<p>The 450X still gets the same 8.4bhp motor that is capable of producing 26Nm. It is still just as fun to ride and just as responsive too. Ather has introduced a new set of tyres from MRF&nbsp;with the updated scooters. These tyres have been developed specially for the 450 and are meant to offer more range while not compromising grip. And I must say, that I hardly noticed any issue with the grip from the new rubber. Combined with the new regen braking, this setup is claimed to substantially increase the real-world range of the scooter. As per Ather, the TruRange of the 3.7kWh model has gone up from 105km to 130km. That is a healthy boost and we will be eager to test it out when we have the scooter for a longer time.</p>

<p>What I do feel is a missed opportunity is that there is still no ABS. I think adding ABS over traction control would have been more useful. I did find myself locking the brakes a couple of times when on the track. While you may argue that people ride more gently on the road, let me remind you that the conditions out there can be rather unpredictable. Also, now that the 450X supports traction control modes and regen levels along with ride modes, I think that Ather should display them on the screen as well. This would help the rider in knowing what levels of various settings the scooter is in, rather than having to dig deep into menus.</p>

<h2>2025 Ather 450X Review: Colour Options and UI Updates</h2>

<p>Ather has not changed any aspect of the scooter’s design so it remains the same as before. There are, however, two new colour options available now - Hyper Sand and Stealth Blue. I particularly like the Hyper Sand colour options as it has a nice finish and looks rather refreshing. As a bonus, if you get this colour option, you will not have to worry about the scooter looking dirty because of the shade.</p>

<p>The new 450 scooters also get Atherstack 6 as part of the software suite. The instrument cluster is the same touch unit and is packed with features. However, the response is still lethargic when you use the map screen. There are noticeable stutters while you pan around. I also noticed that while most of the interface operation is smooth, there are the occasional hiccups and moments when the screen does not react as quickly.</p>

<h2>2025 Ather 450X Review: Is it better?</h2>

<p>Altogether, the 450X remains a smart and fast scooter that is more feature-rich than ever before. I feel the Magic Twist is a great addition and one that will find a lot of daily use. The traction control might be less useful but is a good safety feature still.</p>

<p>As for the pricing, it has gone up ever so slightly by Rs 6,400 for the base 450X and Rs 2,000 for the 450X with the bigger 3.7kWh battery pack.</p>

Altogether, despite the price hike, the scooters remain smart and safe options to pick if you are looking for an EV in this segment.<br />
