Kia EV9 SUV Spotted Undisguised Ahead of India Launch; Shows Vertical LED Headlamps, Upright Bonnet and More
The Kia EV9 is expected to launch at an ex-showroom price of around Rs 80 lakh, making it costlier than the EV6, which is the brand's only electric car currently available in India.
With a hint of an imminent launch, Kia's much-awaited flagship electric SUV, the EV9, has been sighted on Indian roads for the first time. The electric SUV debuted as a concept at the 2023 Auto Expo and was recently seen undergoing production testing in Hyderabad without any camouflage. The model is one of many new vehicles the manufacturer plans to launch in the domestic market as part of its Kia 2.0 strategy. The EV9 will be available for purchase in India later this year and will likely come equipped with level 3 ADAS. Moreover, it will be positioned as the biggest and highest-priced vehicle on the Kia India lineup. The SUV appears to be the same as was showcased at GIIAS, which is expected given that it would be marketed here via CBU routes. Here's what the latest spy shots of the e-SUV reveal about its exterior and interior elements.
Kia EV9: Dimensions and Styling Cues
Owing to its enormous size, the EV9 is intended to draw attention when driving through the streets. Its dimensions alone make it stand out from other vehicles, measuring more than five metres in length and almost two metres in width and height. With a wheelbase of more than three metres, there is plenty of room inside for passengers and luggage. The EV9's visual styling is impressive, with a streamlined front fascia that includes a distinctive blanked-off grille, vertical LED headlamps, and integrated LED daytime running lights. From the side profile, the car sports massive body cladding, polygonal wheel arches, 21-inch alloy wheels, practical roof rails, and door-mounted side mirrors with turn signals. With sleek LED tail lights and flush-fitting door handles, the rear of the car exhibits exquisite attention to detail.
Kia EV9: Mechanical Details
Based on the E-GMP platform, the car offers three unique powertrain options to accommodate a range of driving demands and preferences. With a single 215bhp motor and a 76.1kWh battery, the entry-level RWD model has an impressive range of 358-kilometre. Moreover, with a larger 99.8kWh battery that offers a substantial 541-kilometre range, the long-range version is ideal for individuals looking for extended-range capabilities. Customers can also choose the dual-motor configuration, which offers a combined output of 380bhp for improved performance.
Kia EV9: Cabin Layout and Features
The EV9 will be sold by Kia in six and seven-seat configurations. Recycled PET bottles, natural oils, sugar cane, and maize were among the sustainable and recyclable materials used to make the interior of the car. A 12.3-inch infotainment screen, a digital instrument cluster the same size, and a third 5.0-inch display take centre stage on the dashboard. Along with a large sunroof, ambient lighting, regenerative braking with paddle shifters, a 4-spoke steering wheel, heated steering wheel, USB charging ports, a 14-speaker Meridian sound system, an adjustable smart power tailgate, and other amenities, the carmaker will also incorporate massage capabilities on the seats.
Digital key access, fingerprint recognition, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration, a wireless phone charger, and over-the-air updates all contribute to connectivity and security. Besides this, Kia intends to demonstrate its dedication to safety with a comprehensive portfolio of active and passive safety technologies, such as Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).
Kia EV9: Anticipated Pricing
The EV9 from Kia will probably run you more than Rs 80 lakh (ex-showroom), making it much more costly than the EV6, which is the brand's only electric car available in the country right now. Regarding launch, it is anticipated that the SUV will be rolled out in the market towards the end of the year, following the release of Kia's new Carnival.
