Jeep Compass Petrol Engine Variants Discontinued in India
Alongside petrol variants, the top-spec Jeep Compass Trailhawk has also been discontinued in India. Its 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine is capable of delivering 168bhp and 350Nm of peak torque.
The 1.4-litre turbo-petrol version of the Compass SUV has been discontinued by Jeep in India, if we believe some industry reports. This came at a time when the latest BS6 Phase II or RDE norms have already been enforced in the country. While there has been no official communication from the company regarding the same, speculations are rife that the failure to meet BS6 Phase II compliance is the reason behind its discontinuation. Jeep has seemed to have pulled the plug on the petrol version for the time being, however, the Compass continues to be on sale as a diesel-powered vehicle. The Jeep Compass was launched with two engine options in the Indian market (2017). Sport, Limited (O), and Model S (O) variants were on offer. Under the hood, the Compass received a 1.4-litre MultiAir petrol engine and a 2.0-litre Multijet diesel unit.
In petrol mode, the Jeep Compass is capable of delivering 160bhp of maximum power and 250Nm of peak torque. Transmission duties are carried out by a 6-speed manual gearbox as well as an optional 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox. Onboard diesel, the SUV churns out 168bhp and 350Nm and is connected to a 6-speed manual and a 9-speed automatic torque converter unit. Besides, the vehicle is also equipped with an optional 4x4 system that is offered across Model S (O) and Limited (O) variants of the diesel-powered Compass. In terms of pricing, the Jeep Compass diesel stands between Rs 21.44 lakh and Rs 31.64 lakh (ex-showroom).

Jeep Compass Trailhawk Also Gets Discontinued
Alongside petrol variants, the top-of-the-line Compass Trailhawk has also been discontinued. Its drivetrain includes a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine and a 4x4 system. Power and torque figures are rated at 168bhp and 350Nm. On offer is a 9-speed automatic transmission, which has been borrowed from the Cherokee and other larger Jeep models. The top-spec offers a ground clearance of 205mm, which is more than the standard Compass.
Jeep Compass Petrol: Will it Make a Comeback in India?
Going back in time, the Compass' entry-level Sport Variant with manual transmission was discontinued in December last year. The low demand for the Sport petrol variant of the SUV was presumably the reason behind its discontinuation in India. Following this, the petrol version was available exclusively with DCT automatic transmission.
To put things in perspective, the American manufacturer had pulled the plug on the international-spec 1.4-litre turbo-petrol version of the Compass owing to stricter emission norms. Whereas, this version maintained its presence in the Indian market, even when the facelifted model was launched. The reason was its compliance to BS6 Phase I norms back then. In addition, the new 1.3-litre turbo-petrol version available abroad was not a practical option in India as only a few hundred units (on average) of the Compass are sold in a month.

Therefore, for the time being, the Jeep Compass will be offered in diesel variants as there have been no official details with respect to its return to India as a petrol-powered vehicle. But, there have been reports that suggest that the petrol-powered SUV might make a comeback in the country in 2026.
