Jeep Compass Gets More Powerful 2-Litre Turbo Petrol Engine Globally; Coming to India Soon?
Jeep India has revealed that the Meridian SUV, a three-row version of the Compass, will receive an update for the 2024 model year.
Jeep, the renowned American automobile marque, has globally expanded its Compass lineup with a new 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine. This new mill is the most potent Compass yet, producing an impressive 268bhp of peak power and 400Nm of maximum torque, which is remarkable for its class. In the domestic market, the same 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine is also used in the Jeep Wrangler and Grand Cherokee SUVs. Additionally, this engine will be used on the Jeep Commander overseas, which is basically the Meridian SUV that is sold in our country. Although the engine is not brand-new, it has demonstrated its value in a variety of vehicles, including some from Alfa Romeo and Maserati in different configurations. Notably, it comes from FCA's Global Medium Engine (GME) line.
With the addition of direct injection and a dual VVT system, the Compass can attain a high speed of 228km/h while completing a 0-100km/h sprint in just 6.3 seconds. It features full-time 4WD, mud and sand modes for improved off-road performance, and a nine-speed torque converter automatic transmission. Larger 300mm brake discs and re-calibrated shock absorbers are also included.
Jeep Compass 2L: India Launch Soon?
Jeep does not currently offer the SUV with a petrol engine in its lineup for India. The brand is now preparing to revive the Compass petrol on our shores as well. However, it is important to note that instead of a 2-litre unit, the option we'll get, will be a much smaller 1.3-litre turbo-petrol. This motor puts out about 185bhp of maximum power. Only by 2025 will this engine arrive here. By that time, the Jeep Meridian is also anticipated to be powered by the same engine. Prior to that, Jeep is also going to launch the Meridian facelift in India this year.
There is no doubt that the carmaker has taken a major stride forward with the introduction of the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine in the Compass lineup. This engine is shared by numerous prominent models, such as the Grand Cherokee and Wrangler. Jeep's plan for a variety of markets is hinted at by its initial South American debut.
2024 Jeep Meridian
Jeep has revealed that the Meridian SUV, a three-row version of the Compass, will receive an update for the 2024 model year. Although details are scarce it is anticipated that the all-new Meridian will receive an improved feature list in addition to a cosmetic update. The outward changes will probably include new alloy wheel designs, redesigned bumpers, and a modified grille. Jeep will likely offer additional paint jobs as well. Inside, the 2024 Meridian could include a large 12.3-inch infotainment screen, a new user interface, and rear window blinds. A previously photographed test mule of the Meridian SUV suggests that Jeep may provide Level 2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems).
