2024 Hyundai Kona Electric Makes Debut in US, Gets 418km Range and V2L Tech
Hyundai has pulled the wraps off the all-new Kona Electric for the North American market. The 2024 SUV utilises a new Kona platform with an electrified powertrain and offers a refreshed design as well as some new features.
The 2024 Hyundai Kona has been unveiled for the US market, and the new hot SUV packs in a 64.8kWh battery pack with an electric range of up to 418 kilometres based on Hyundai's preliminary internal testing. Besides, the second-generation Kona EV features a new Kona platform with an electrified powertrain and boasts a refreshed design as well as some new features. The all-new 2024 Kona will be available in the US in late fall 2023, with prices likely to be announced closer to the timeline. For reference, the current-generation Hyundai Kona commands a starting price of $33,500 (roughly Rs 27.78 lakh, exclusive of taxes and fees). The US-spec Kona Electric will roll out from Hyundai's plant in Ulsan, South Korea, while the Europe-bound model will be manufactured at the company's plant in Nosovice, the Czech Republic.
To start with the heart of the matter, the 2024 Kona EV is equipped with a 64.8kWh battery that is estimated to deliver a 418km range, about 3km more than that of the current-generation model – which gives an EPA-certified range of 415km. The standard battery variant is estimated to provide approximately 317km of range.

2024 Hyundai Kona Electric: Charging Capabilities
As for the power and torque output, the long-range version's front axle-mounted electric motor cranks out 198bhp and 255Nm of peak torque, while the standard model is capable of producing 131bhp and 255Nm. Hyundai says that the 2024 Hyundai Kona Electric can be charged from 10 to 80 per cent in approximately 43 minutes using a 400V Level 3 DC fast charger.
Apart from an electrified powertrain, the second-generation Kona also offers the option of an internal combustion engine. In the US market, the 2024 Hyundai Kona will include the Electric, the Limited, and the Sporty N Line versions.
2024 Hyundai Kona Electric: Dimensions, Design
Dimensionally, the all-new Kona EV measures 4,356mm in length, 1,826mm in width, and 1,580mm in height. Moreover, it also features a longer wheelbase as compared to its predecessor. The boot has a capacity of 722 litres, while the frunk offers 27 litres of space.
The 2024 Kona is a blend of sleek and rugged design. Apart from being longer and wider in terms of dimensions, the Kona Electric has been made more aerodynamically efficient with a drag coefficient of 0.27. Up front, the car is defined by a split headlamp design and LED daytime running lights. The parametric styling is also extended to this model, with it bearing the side creases and sculpted wheel arches. The vehicle also features dynamic chrome lines connecting the belt line to the rear spoiler. Other design bits include active grille shutters, a pixelated seamless horizon lamp, pixel graphics, etc.

The Kona Electric offers convenience features and technologies in the form of a vehicle-to-load functionality with 1.7kW of power, a new Smart Regenerative system, i-PEDAL driving mode, twin 12.3-inch panoramic display screens, Digital Key 2 Touch, OTA updates, body-coloured interior accents, and ambient lighting. A new charging port door lamp helps ensure visibility at night.
