2023 Hyundai Kona Unveiled Globally; Gets Three Powertrain Options
The 2023 Hyundai Kona has been unveiled for international markets. Three different powertrain options are available for the new model: pure ICE, hybrid, and electric. The second-generation Kona sports a radically new look and is nearly six inches longer than its predecessor.
Hyundai has unveiled the all-new Kona and confirmed three powertrain options for the SUV. It will be offered with a petrol-only, a petrol-hybrid, and an electric engine, with the ICE powertrain also getting an N-Line variant with enhanced performance.
The new 2023 Hyundai Kona has been officially unveiled by the Korean automaker, and it features an entirely new exterior design and cutting-edge interior technology. The updated second-generation Hyundai Kona shares a similar design aesthetic as the recently introduced Hyundai Ioniq 5.
In terms of exterior design, Hyundai is now offering styles that are unique to each of the three available powertrain options. The manufacturer claims the SUV was created as an EV first and then incorporated aspects to embrace alternative powertrain options. Each powertrain receives a few stylistic features to set it apart from its siblings, such as distinct intake grille inserts, unique alloy wheels, updated skid plates and rear bumpers, and different colour schemes for the wheel arches, side mirrors, and roof.

Compared to its predecessor, the SUV's overall appearance is bigger and slightly more rounded. The once-sharp bonnet has become more curved and is adorned with a DRL strap that spans its breadth. The main headlight unit is positioned lower on the bumper in keeping with Kona's conventional look, but in this case, it is a part of the broad, squared-off wheel arch that extends to the front. Moreover, the electric model's light bar is pixelated to resemble the Hyundai Ioniq 5's. With pronounced lines and creases on the bodywork, the new Kona's side appearance resembles that of the Hyundai Tucson. The SUV's rear features just a single LED strap crossing the hood. The taillights are also located within the SUV's lower body cladding, as they are at the front.
Coming to the interior, the increased overall dimensions and wheelbase of the SUV have resulted in bigger cabin space. The electric crossover's wheelbase has been expanded by 60mm, making it roomier on the inside. The interior has been remodelled in a futuristic manner, with two 12.3-inch screens combining to form a digital instrument cluster and touchscreen infotainment display. The gear selector has been relocated from the centre console to a stalk behind the steering wheel, making additional storage space available.
