Despite the production slowdown caused by the shortage of semiconductors, Honda India has managed to keep the sales flow of the Amaze.
The Honda Amaze stepped into the Indian car market in 2013, and it was in 2018, that Honda India introduced the second generation of the Amaze. In its second-generation form, the Honda Amaze was offered with both petrol and diesel engines, which could be had with a manual or a CVT automatic transmission.
Since 2018, Honda India has sold two lakh units of the second-gen sub-compact sedan, bringing the cumulative total number of the Honda Amaze sold to 4.6 lakh units.
Honda India says that the option of a CVT auto has attracted 20 per cent of the total buyers. Also, 40 per cent of the total Amaze customers are first-time car buyers, says Honda India. Honda further confirms that 68 per cent of the total sales have been garnered from tier 2 and tier 3 cities of India.
Gaku Nakanishi, President and CEO, Honda Cars India, said, ‘The delivery of 200,000th unit of 2nd Generation Amaze is a proud moment for Honda Cars India family and reaffirms our commitment to introducing more such class-defining products. We believe Amaze is a great choice for customers who expect the enhanced status, comfort and peace of mind from their first car.’
The sub-four-metre compact-sedan segment currently has very limited options – the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Hyundai Aura, Tata Tigor, and Honda Amaze. Since Ford India ceased its sales operation in India, the Ford Aspire is out of the picture, along with the segment.
The Tata Tigor and the Maruti Suzuki Dzire are not available with a diesel mill, which means that buyers looking for a sub-compact-sedan are left with two options – the Aura and Amaze. Both sedans are offered with a diesel engine as well, and buyers can also opt for the automatic transmission for the added convenience, along with the diesel engine's practicality.
