A visionary and an automotive pioneer, Dilip Chhabria (DC) is among the first and foremost names to appear in the domestic car design industry. The journey began in 1983 when Dilip Chhabria returned to India after spending a year at General Motor’s Design Centre in Detroit.
Having studied Transportation Design from the Art Centre College of Design in Pasadena, California, his experience in the car mass-production business soon made him realize that his passion lay in developing and designing unique creations. As a result, he took the entrepreneurial plunge and started creating automotive accessories for the mass market.
Very soon, all-new DC car accessories became the preferred choice for automotive enthusiasts and within a decade it became the largest independent accessory manufacturing outfit in the country. However, this was just the start for DC. His goal was to design and produce an entire car and not just car components.
Ten years after the entrepreneurial debut, DC Design was founded in 1993 with the combined aim of redesigning and modifying mass-market cars and creating bespoke cars for automotive connoisseurs. DC also specialises in offering design and prototyping services to numerous OEMs in the automotive industry.
Till date, DC Design has produced more than 600 self-designed cars, ranging from outright supercars to a complete re-haul of the humble Hindustan Motors Ambassador car model. DC Design has also provided design and prototyping services to the likes of Aston Martin, Renault and GM. As of 2018, DC Design is also actively involved in refurbishing aircraft interiors. DC Design is now synonymous with bespoke luxury and avant-garde automotive design.
To prove his mettle, DC first lay his hands on a standard Mahindra Jeep and in 1993, the re-designed Mahindra Invader officially became the first DC car in India. In 2015, DC launched the first Indian-bred supercar, the Avanti, limited to a 300-unit production run. With supercar-inspired styling and attractive pricing, DC car Avanti instantly gained traction in the country.
DC car prices in India start from around 34 lakh rupees for the 2018 Avanti. All DC car price listings can be found on the website of autoX.
