BMW iX1 eDrive20 Electric SUV Marks Global Debut, Claims 475 Km Range
BMW, the German luxury carmaker, has introduced a new entry-level iX1 eDrive20 model to appeal to a wider range of customers. It is the second product in the iX1 series and sits below the more potent xDrive30. The car will probably be offered in standard, xLine, and M Sport versions.

It is important to note that both these models are based on the BMW X1 compact crossover, which made its debut last year. In terms of styling, the new pattern for the covered kidney grille on the iX1 eDrive20, which differs from the vertical slits on the iX1 eDrive30, is what visually sets it apart from other X1 models. The vehicle will probably be offered in standard, xLine, and M Sport versions with distinct alloy wheels, and equipment packages for an additional price. With its latest offering, the brand is giving a broader variety of target groups access to locally emission-free driving experiences by widening its range of models within the premium compact segment, which will further encourage the uptake of e-mobility.
BMW iX1 eDrive20: Availability and Production
The BMW iX1 eDrive20 is currently up for pre-order in the UK, and deliveries for the same will begin in November. Its starting price in its native Germany is €47,900 ($51,693), which is €6,900 ($7,446) less than the xDrive30. Regarding a potential launch in the United States, nothing has been announced as of yet. Both EVs are manufactured in the BMW Group factory in Regensburg.
BMW iX1 eDrive20: Mechanical Details
A single electric motor, with a peak torque of 247Nm and a maximum output of 198bhp, drives the car. BMW claims that the model accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in 8.6 seconds and has a claimed top speed of 170km/h. Further, it has a driving range of 431-476-kilometre on the WLTP cycle. A 64.7 kWh battery pack supplies the front axle's motor with electricity. It is enclosed within the floor to save space and have a lower center of gravity. The closely comparable Mini Countryman E, which recently made its premiere in Munich, utilises the same powerplant. The new iX1 eDrive20 supports AC charging up to 11 kW and charges from 0 per cent to 100 per cent in 6.5 hours. The charging time is reduced to 3 hours and 45 minutes when using the optional 22 kW three-phase AC charging. At a fast-charging station, the battery can be charged from 10 per cent to 80 per cent in 29 minutes at a DC charging rate of up to 130 kW.

BMW iX1 eDrive20: Features Onboard
On the feature front, the iX1 eDrive20 boasts an extensive standard equipment suite, comprising dual-zone automatic air conditioning and multiple ADAS such as the Parking Assistant and reverse camera, considering it is BMW's entry-level EV product. The "QuickSelect" menu for the iDrive is available in the digital cockpit (BMW Curved Display), which has two screens measuring 10.25-inch and 10.7-inch and runs the most recent version of the BMW Operating System.
