Audi has issued a global recall of nearly 50,000 units of the Q7 and Q8 SUVs due to an issue with the fuel pump. The defect is said to cause an internal failure, potentially stranding the driver, that is under rare circumstances. Audi has not yet confirmed if models in India have also been affected.
Models manufactured between 2019 and 2021 carrying the V6 petrol engine have been affected by the issue. Audi says that the defect causes the fuel pump to get damaged due to the pressure fluctuations within the pump. This can potentially starve the engine of fuel.
While Audi has confirmed that it won’t lead to a fuel leak, the broken pieces can damage the sealing membrane of the pressure regulator. This debris can in turn restrict fuel flow to the extent that it will stall the vehicle.
According to the defect report, Audi states, "An inoperative fuel pump due to these conditions could result in illumination of the 'emission control system' light, rough engine running and/or an engine no start." Furthermore, the report also mentions, “However, in rare instances, an engine stall while driving could occur, increasing the risk of a crash."
While there is no word from the manufacturer if the recall involves units in India. Stay tuned to this space to be updated.
