Audi India&nbsp;Pvt Ltd established itself in 2007 as a division of&nbsp;<a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/volkswagen/" title="Volkswagen">Volkswagen</a>&nbsp;Group Sales India with headquarters in Mumbai. This marked the entry of the legendary German carmaker in India with the aim of tapping the growing demand for luxury vehicles. Audi Gurgaon became the first authorised Audi dealership in the country, opened by the Zenica Group on 12th January 2007.

The first Audi cars in India were the&nbsp;A4&nbsp;and the&nbsp;A6, assembled locally at the Aurangabad facility of&nbsp;<a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/skoda/" title="Skoda">Skoda</a>&nbsp;Auto India Private Limited (SAIPL). As of May 2018, new Audi cars such as&nbsp;the A3 Sedan, A4, A6 and the&nbsp;Q3,&nbsp;Q5&nbsp;and&nbsp;Q7&nbsp;were produced at the Aurangabad plant. In 2008, supercar enthusiasts in the country tasted blood as Audi launched its&nbsp;R8&nbsp;supercar in India with the V8 configuration. The V10 model was introduced later in 2011.

The range of all Audi cars in India consists of the A3,&nbsp;A3 Cabriolet, A4, A5 Sportback,&nbsp;A5 Cabriolet, A6, A8L, Q3, Q5, Q7,&nbsp;S5 Sportback, TT Coupe, RS5 Coupe,&nbsp;RS6, RS7, R8 and the R8 Spyder which also form the company’s 2018 product line-up.

As of May 2018, Audi India has set up more than 60 sales and service touchpoints across the country. With an ever-expanding product portfolio and the growing love for SUVs among the Indian masses, future Audi car models are expected to give the company further growth and even higher sales figures in the coming years.

The Audi Q3 gets another update before the launch of its next-gen model in 2018. And this time around it gets a gasoline motor too.

Audi first introduced the smallest offering in its Q line-up, the Q3, in 2012. And this baby Q has been one of the best-selling models for Audi right from the get-go. It’s quite remarkable in fact that it continues to lead the sales charts at Audi even five years on. Full credit to Audi for the way they’ve managed to keep the scoreboard ticking by giving the Q3 timely updates. This time around they’ve plonked a new petrol motor under the hood.

The 2017 Audi Q3 petrol gets the same 1.4-litre TFSI motor that also does duty in the A3 and the A4 sedans. While, on paper, 148bhp may sound inadequate – especially considering its 1,660kg weight – on the road it performs quite well. The 250Nm of torque kicks in as low as 1,500rpm. Flex your right foot and you do feel a bit of turbo lag. But, once you get past it, there’s plenty of punch. The car feels best when kept in its mid-range. Push beyond that and it starts to get a bit noisy inside the cabin – and it also starts running out of breath close to its 6,000rpm redline.

The Q3 30 TFSI comes mated to a butter-smooth 6-speed dual-clutch transmission. For those who like to take control of the gearshifts, it does get an ‘M’ mode – but, sadly, no paddle shifters. The 2017 Q3 comes with four driving modes – Efficiency, Comfort, Dynamic and Auto – and each mode alters how the steering, engine and gearbox behave.

The set-up of the 2017 Q3 petrol is a little on the stiffer side – which means, of course, that it does feel very surefooted around corners. That being said, this set-up does have an adverse effect on ride quality. It has a rather unsettling ride over rough roads, especially for passengers at the back. The light steering, meanwhile, makes it a boon to drive in the city – but the lack of feedback does rob some of the fun of cornering.

Aside from the new engine, Audi has also made some minor cosmetic changes to the 2017 Q3. Although it retains the same overall silhouette, it does get some additional plastic cladding on the sides of the doors. The 2017 Q3 also gets a reshaped front bumper with a larger air dam. In typical Audi fashion, it also gets LED headlamps and tail lamps with dynamic directional turn indicators.

On the inside, the 2017 Q3 carries forward the same dashboard layout and four-spoke steering wheel. Considering the petrol is only on sale in Premium trim, it gets wood inserts on the dashboard and centre console – the top-spec technology variants get more premium-looking brushed aluminium accents. Build quality is on par with what you’d expect from a brand like Audi, but the price is a little steep – especially given that this segment is seeing a lot of action at the moment. The front seats are electrically adjustable, which makes it easy to find a comfortable seating posture. Space at the back, meanwhile, is good enough for two average-sized adults.

As far as features are concerned, the 2017 Audi Q3 comes loaded with climate control, cruise control, a panoramic sunroof, Audi’s MMI infotainment system, a colour display for the driver information system, and more. In terms of safety, the Q3 gets six airbags, ABS, EBD, BA and lots of other such acronyms.

Audi has priced the Q3 1.4 TFSI at Rs.32.2 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). At that price point, the biggest challenge Audi will face is the number of options available in the market. However, it’s important to understand that this updated Q3’s purpose is to serve as a stopgap till such time as the new model arrives. Sure, it’s not as energetic as the 2.0 TFSI motor of old, but it does now give you the option of getting a petrol-powered Q3 – and one that’s quite enjoyable from behind the wheel.

Audi Q3 Petrol Review, First Drive

The Audi Q3 has been our favourite crossover since it broke cover, and it's been quite popular too. Before it's refreshed in 2018, Audi has pushed yet another update to the Q3, and now it comes with a petrol heart. Here's what's changed.

The refreshed Audi Q3 looks sharper, is loaded with features, and comes with Quattro – so it’s capable of tackling all kinds of terrain.

The Audi Q3 has been a runaway hit in India, and, as the leader of its segment, is set to raise the bar further. We first drove the face-lifted Q3 in Germany last year, which received both engine and styling upgrades – but the India spec gets only a nip-and-tuck job as the 2-litre diesel engine remains the same.

In terms of performance, the 174bhp power-plant always packed a punch – so, honestly, it’s not necessarily a bad thing that Audi India has chosen to use the same engine. We got our hands on the 2015 Audi Q3, and hit the winding, narrow, yet picturesque, roads of Goa.

The LED daytime running lights give the Q3 a premium and a sophisticated look at first glance. The re-designed headlamp cluster comes with integrated turn signals. The prominent Bavarian-beard up front has become wider and now comes with an eye-catching chrome frame – which gives the Q3 a stronger visual presence. Plus, the hexagonal framework of the new grille blends beautifully into the headlamps – which will become a signature on all new Audis.

The air dams and lower grille add an imposing stance to the styling, which is something that every SUV buyer looks for. Audi has also given the new Q3 a fresh set of 17-inch alloy wheels. And, in keeping with its new tagline of ‘Start Young,’ this compact SUV comes in three new radiant colours – red, blue and brown.

Step inside, and you’re welcomed by a more upmarket cabin. The wooden panel on the dashboard has been replaced with a more suave aluminium finish. To spruce up the interiors further, Audi has added chrome inserts on the dash and chrome finish on some of the buttons. As expected, the Q3 comes with a lot of features like a rear-view camera – the infotainment system comes with 20GB of internal memory, and has 2 SDHC slots. There’s a dock for your smart phone in the storage space between the front seats, which even allows the mobile phone to use the car’s shark fin antenna to catch signal.

As mentioned previously, the Q3 is powered by the 2-litre diesel, which continues to be impressive when it comes to performance and refinement. The 174bhp motor is more than happy to sprint from the word go, and the engine noise is completely insulated from the cabin. It’s still equipped with the seven-speed S-tronic transmission, which responds instantly. It also comes with steering mounted paddles for the keen drivers among you. The engine has always been a free revving one, but now with the paddle shifters you get even more control – let’s just say that this remains the most engaging drivetrain in its segment, which includes the BMW X1 and Mercedes-Benz GLA.

Audi Drive Select also allows you to change the gearbox and suspension settings based on the road condition, as well as your mood. It comes with three different driving modes – Comfort, Sport and Auto. Comfort is the default setting, and provides an ideal ride for the city as it cushions potholes. The steering also feels quite light, which is great for urban driving conditions. Sport is where the suspension stiffens up and the rev counter appears more comfortable in the far reaches of the rev range. Auto mode is like being on autopilot, as the computer decides what’s best.

The Q3 has always had impressive ride quality, as Audi ensured that the suspension set up was perfectly dialled in for our conditions. Sure, you might hear a thud when it goes over a pothole, but it cushions it to perfection. When it comes to handling, thanks to the Quattro system, it has immense road holding – you can even drive this machine like a hot-hatch and it won’t complain one bit.

The Q3 has always been a capable SUV, and it still remains one. Its premium and style quotient has definitely gone up, especially with the new front LED daytime running lamps. It continues to be a fun compact SUV to drive, and remains the only all-wheel drive vehicle in its segment – which at least gives you the option of exploring some challenging tracks if you so choose. It’s also equipped with Hill Descent Control, which can be quite useful off-road. The lack of steering feel, however, continues to plague the driving experience – but it’s the only flaw that we can point out. On the whole, it certainly makes a lot of sense at a starting price of Rs.28.99 lakhs, ex-showroom, Delhi.

All-wheel bliss

Since the 1980s, Audi has been a pioneer in all-wheel drive technology. Though the Q3 predominately uses the front wheels, but when required, based on the driving conditions, it can send up to 50% of the engine’s power to the rear to provide additional traction. Not only does this enable you to get out of tricky conditions, but it also provides an added element of safety.

Audi Q3 Facelift Review, Test Drive

With the facelift, the Audi Q3 gets a plethora of features, aggressive looks, and the lauded Audi's Quattro all-wheel-drive system. So, can Audi gain back on the numbers with the Q3? Let's find out.

We test the face-lifted Audi Q3 on long stretches of rain soaked Autobahn to see if the updates to this successful compact SUV are sufficient to keep Audi at the top of the luxury car charts in India. &nbsp;

The Audi Q3 Facelift has been at the heart of Audi’s success in the Indian market over the past few years. Its combination of relative affordability, along with high quality levels and handsome looks, have meant that customers have flocked to Audi’s smallest SUV – making it their largest selling model in the Indian market. Globally as well, the Audi Q3 has seen similar success – with over 400,000 units of the car having been sold around the world. Naturally, that means continued success of the Audi Q3 is vital for Audi to retain its leadership in the Indian market.

However, with the competition now stiffening – especially with the launch of the Mercedes GLA – it’s an opportune time for Audi to refresh the Audi Q3, which has been in the Indian market since 2012. So, the refreshed Audi Q3 comes with visual changes that, to be honest, are quite minimal. That being said, even four years after it’s initial launch, the Audi Q3 is still a looker. The changes may be subtle, but they’re quite impactful and demonstrate the fact that Audi hasn’t lost its eye for attention to detail.

The face-lifted Audi Q3 comes with new headlights – now bi-xenon as standard, with the option of LED’s. So, no more halogens! Plus, the LED taillights look much sharper and attract a fair amount of attention. The Audi Q3 also features dynamic turn indicators, a la the R8, which indicate in the direction that the car is turning. These are quite distinctive as well. The Audi Q3 now has a more square jaw – in keeping with Audi’s recent concept cars. It features a larger single-piece front grille, which, along with a revised bumper, makes the car look more assertive. It’ll be offered in two trim levels, as well as S-Line option with a sporty body kit.

The interiors are much the same as before – but, really, not much was needed in this area to begin with. Like most other Audi’s, the Audi Q3 features class-leading interiors with outstanding fit-and-finish, quality and attention to detail. Minor changes include new trim styles on the dashboard, along with options such as carbon fibre and wood. The Audi Q3 now offers the latest version of Audi’s MMI system – MMI plus – which offers in-car WiFi and Internet connectivity, which enables the use of Google Maps and Google Earth. And, in Germany at least, the navigation system worked absolutely brilliantly. Add to that it’s ability to seamlessly integrate with smartphones, and it makes the new MMI system a significant technological boost. Interior space, meanwhile, remains unchanged – which is to say that rear legroom is still limited. The boot now features a luggage compartment cover as standard, while a power tailgate is now optionally available.

According to the engineers at Audi, the engine line-up of the Audi Q3 has been completely revamped, and both engines receive multiple updates. So, the main seller in the Indian market – the 2-litre TDI – is now referred to as the TDI Ultra. Thankfully, the Audi Q3 still retains the old naming system, instead of adopting the silly new one heralded by the Audi A3. The diesel engine offers slightly more power and produces fewer emissions than the previous engine. Power output is now 181bhp and 380Nm of torque, while the base version of the engine produces 148bhp and 340Nm. Paired with the engine are two gearbox options – a six-speed manual, and a 7-speed S tronic dual-clutch automatic. And, of course, the Audi Q3 now features Audi’s Quattro all-wheel drive system for added traction and usability. While we’re not clear about exactly which variants will be launched in India, we expect the 2-litre diesel engine to be offered in both automatic and manual form – with the automatic version featuring Quattro as well.

The 2-litre TFSI petrol engine has also received a similar revamp. This direct injection turbocharged engine now produces 217bhp and 350Nm of torque. Paired with the 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, this version of the Audi Q3 is quite a bit of fun to drive – with excellent throttle response. The engine makes a rather nice noise too – egging you to push the throttle that little bit more. It’s a pity that even the best diesel engines today can’t match the aural excitement of their petrol cousins. However, there’s some doubt as to whether the petrol option will be offered in the Indian market at all – given the paradoxical propensity of luxury car buyers in India to avoid petrol-powered machines.

At any rate, the changes made to the drivetrain by the Audi engineers are quite evident when on the road. There’s a noticeable improvement in NVH (Noise Vibration Harshness) levels, and power delivery is exceptionally smooth. Changes to the gearbox ratios have resulted in improved drivability, while the gearbox responds faster still. Even in auto mode, the dual-clutch gearbox chooses the optimum gear each time, and there’s virtually no lag between shifts. Such is all-weather ability of the Audi Q3 with the Quattro system that we could easily maintain high triple-digit speeds on the rain-soaked German Autobahns.

So, while the visual changes to the Audi Q3 might be subtle, the overall package has improved significantly. So, when it’s launched next year – in the second quarter most likely – it promises to make the life of its main competitors tougher still.

Audi Q3 Review, First Drive

With a host of upgrades, Audi has spruced up their smallest SUV, the Q3 as it is decidedly the best-selling model from the automaker - globally. We flew to Autobahn to test out the new Audi Q3. Here's our extensive review.

The Audi RS-Q3 is an altogether extreme take on the concept of compact SUV’s. We get behind the wheel of one in rainy Munich to do our Audi RS Q3 to see how it fits into the otherwise sensible Audi RS-Q3 line-up.

In the drab, grey surroundings of Munich in early winter, the bright red Audi RS-Q3 stood out like a ray of light. The design, which has been sufficiently modified to give it the required aggression befitting of the RS&nbsp;Range, gives it tremendous presence – the bright hue of our test car helps of course! Cementing the purposeful looks of the&nbsp;Audi RS-Q3 are large 19-inch wheels fitted as standard – 20-inchers are an option – as well as an aggressive front bumper with large Quattro lettering on the front air dam.

This most extreme version of the Audi RS-Q3 range is aimed at enthusiasts who obviously have absolute faith in the idiom that there’s no such thing as too much power. So, the RS&nbsp;is powered by a 2.5-litre five-cylinder turbocharged engine that produces 335bhp and 450Nm of torque, which means that this Audi RS-Q3 is plenty fast. The 0-100km/h mark comes up in just 4.8 seconds, while the top speed is electronically limited to 250km/h. However, it’s not just the speed that makes this car fun to drive – rather it’s the complete character of the machine. Right from the all-black interiors, with gorgeous diamond quilted seats, to the sporty dials, the whole intention is to enhance the sportiness of this machine.And the RS&nbsp;impresses on the road, with the five-cylinder emitting a lovely warble that’s suitably loud when you’re on the power – with a lovely crackle and pop on the overrun. Of course, given the power levels of the RS, there’s no dearth of performance. On the Autobahn, crossing 200km/h was effortless – with the Quattro all-wheel drive system providing excellent levels of grip and traction. The dual-clutch gearbox works very well, and I must admit that there were times during our Audi RS Q3 when I downshifted just to hear more of the exhaust and engine at high revs.

While we didn’t have enough time to explore the handling limits of the Audi RS-Q3, I can only imagine that it’s in keeping with the character of this machine – which is to say very impressive indeed. The trouble with creating an SUV with such a strong sporting character, unfortunately, is that you have to make the suspension so stiff to ensure that it handles well that you end up destroying ride comfort in its entirety. And judging by the manner in which the Audi RS-Q3 reacted to expansion joints on the highway, that’s exactly what appears to have happened in this case as well. 
So, we’ll have to wait and see how its fares in our conditions when we do our Audi RS Q3. And I have a sneaking suspicion that it may actually get launched at some point next year. It would certainly be a great addition to the Audi RS-Q3 range. After all, the Audi RS-Q3 has a lot of appeal – and a lot of substance to match that appeal. But with its performance potential, it remains a very niche product. And with the audience for performance products slowly, but surely, growing in India, the Audi RS-Q3 will be an interesting addition to the Audi line-up.

The battle in the high-end SUV segment has just gotten more intense with Audi launching its range-topping variant – the Audi Q3 Dynamic – to retain its position as the top luxury carmaker in India. A year after overtaking BMW as the number one luxury automaker, Audi hasn’t shown any signs of stepping off the gas pedal. And the <a href="https://www.autox.com/reviews/car-reviews/2014-audi-q3-review-first-drive-33641/" title="Audi Q3 Review">Audi Q3</a> Dynamic has been unleashed to ward off the newcomer, the Mercedes-Benz GLA, and keep the pressure on the BMW X1. A storm is brewing in the luxury compact SUV segment, and the Germans aren’t shying away from taking each other on head-on.

So, why is Audi making a song and dance over a new variant? Is it really ‘dynamic’ or is this just another catchy name for a tacky nip-and-tuck job? Honestly, even we were a bit sceptical about the Audi Q3 Dynamic initially. So, the best way to answer these questions was to take a spin in it and find out for ourselves whether the hype was justified?

For starters, yes, Audi has made some cosmetic changes. For instance, the bumpers have been slightly re-designed and beefed up to give it a more rugged look, the rear LED lamps now come in clear lenses – and the jury is still out on whether its an eye sore or snazzy to look at. It also gets a new set of five-spoke 17-inch ‘Trias’ design alloy wheels and the ‘Bavarian beard’ grille is now finished in chrome. This new variant also comes fitted with under-body protection skid plates in the front and the rear as a standard feature. Thankfully, Audi, as felt by us during our Audi Q3 Dynamic, has stayed away from gimmicky Dynamic badging on the exteriors. The market leader wants the subtle changes to speak for themselves, rather than overselling its name – and we can’t agree more with this philosophy.

The cabin looks familiar with the retractable multi-functional MMI screen being the centre of attention. The walnut coloured interiors make the cabin feel airy, and this is more evident with the panoramic sunroof. The interiors are slowly ageing, but the quality, fit-and-finish are top class. The front seats are electrically adjustable, and come with four-way adjustable lumbar support. But there’s no parking camera on board, which is disappointing because it’s now found on cars with much lesser price tags.

What makes this Audi Q3 Dynamic SUV is Audi’s Drive Select, which gives you the liberty to choose suspension set up according to the road conditions or your driving style. This feature is not as complex as the one available in the more expensive Audis, but it still is a class-leading feature in this segment. Drive Select gives you an option of three driving modes – Comfort, Auto, and, of course, Dynamic.

Comfort is basically the default setting, which swallows most of the bumps and dips in the road – but body-roll kicks in during hard cornering. This mode is perfect for commuting in the city. Dynamic, or the bad boy setup, is where the Audi Q3 dynamic transforms into a driver’s machine that holds its line to the T. Though the suspension stiffens up, the ride quality doesn’t suffer too much – unless you drive straight through some of the harshest potholes in the road. Auto mode is like driving on autopilot, as the computer decides what’s best for the vehicle.

The Dynamic version is powered by the ever-reliable 2-litre diesel engine, with 174bhp, which is mated to the precise and efficient 7-speed DSG transmission. Though this variant is only available in diesel, the icing on the cake is the all-wheel drive (Quattro), which makes it the only SUV in its class to actually have off-roading capabilities.

At Rs. 38.40 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi), the Audi Q3 dynamic is a total package for those who really want to drive their SUV rather than just sit in the rear. Apart from being an SUV for all driving conditions, it feels spacious from the inside – especially for the rear passengers, which is a boon in this segment. At the end of our Audi Q3 Dynamic, let’s just say that Audi is making sure that the brand new Mercedes-Benz GLA doesn’t have it all its own way!

The 2022 Audi Q3 has arrived in two variants.

Audi has launched the new Q3 in India with prices starting at Rs 44.89 lakh (ex-showroom). The company will commence deliveries at the end of this year and the car will be offered in two variants - Premium Plus and Technology.&nbsp;

Starting with the design, upfront, the car will get a new single-frame grille with an octagonal design and vertical slats. This is flanked by a pair of wedge-shaped headlamps with LED DRLs. It gets gloss black cladding all around and drives on a set of 18-inch alloy wheels, black shark-fin antenna and roof rails, wraparound two-piece LED taillights and a dual-tone rear bumper.

On the inside, the 2022 <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/audi/q3/" target="_blank">Audi Q3</a> gets a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, &nbsp;Audi Drive Select, electrically adjustable front seats, dual-zone climate control, adjustable second-row seats, cruise control, a fully digital instrument cluster, Audi Smartphone interface, MMI Navigation Plus, wireless charging, gesture-controlled tailgate, and a 180 W 10 speaker Audi sound system.

In terms of powertrain, the car gets a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, TFSI turbo-petrol engine that produces 187bhp and 320Nm of torque via a seven-speed automatic transmission. The power is sent to all four wheels via the brand’s Quattro all-wheel-drive system. This helps it sprint to triple-digit speeds in 7.3 seconds. <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/audi/" target="_blank">Audi</a> is offering the first 500 customers of the Audi Q3 a five-year extended warranty and a three-year /50,000 km service value package.

The test mule was seen sporting minimal camouflage meaning the vehicle is in its final stages of development.

While the styling at first glance seems to be an evolution of the current generation model, there are inevitable clues of inspiration drawn from their latest generation models. The overall design will probably remain similar to the current car but the front of the car will be far more striking. The front design will be a scaled-down version of the design on the new Q8 with a large aggressive single-frame grille flanked by sharp headlamps, the design lines have been reworked and a more butch front bumper.

However, with the Q3, Audi is expected to update the internals as well with new technology. It will feature a reasonable amount of new features in the interior with the latest generation infotainment system with a multifunction centre console and the latest version of Audi’s virtual cockpit as well. The underpinnings will be brand new as it will be based on the MQB platform, as opposed to the older model which was based on the PQ35 platform. As for engines, the powertrain options might feature new options with even the possibility of a plug-in hybrid.

I’m sure I don’t have to tell you that I’ve been waiting for this moment for a long time!

Well, since July 2013 to be exact – that’s the last time I drove a Ferrari V12 convertible. And it just so happens that the Ferrari 12Cilindri is the spiritual successor of this very machine – a 1971 365 GTS, the Daytona Spider, which directly inspired the styling of the front-end of this machine.
 
 
 
At the time, even in my wildest dreams I couldn’t have possibly imagined that over a decade later, on the 16th of April 2024, Ferrari would ensure that the lineage of the front-engined V12 GT would endure, thanks to the 12Cilindri.<img src="https://images.autox.com/uploads/2025/03/1741785060147-1jvd-Ferrari-12Cilindri-Spider-Front.webp" alt="Ferrari 12Cilindri Spider-Front.jpg" style="width: 100%; height: auto;">

And I certainly couldn’t have predicted that I would be at Maranello on that fateful day, when both the Berlinetta and Spider would be unveiled to an unsuspecting bunch of motoring journalists from across the globe. But that was just the unveil. This would finally be my chance to get behind the wheel – here in Cascais in Portugal, on the western most tip of the European continent.<img src="https://images.autox.com/uploads/2025/03/1741784879542-zhk3-Ferrari-12Cilindri-Spider-infotainment-screen.webp" alt="Ferrari 12Cilindri Spider-infotainment-screen.jpg" style="width: 100%; height: auto;">The 12Cilindri Spider was kitted out in its launch livery of Verde Toscana, which was offset perfectly by the black contrasting trim. And, to my eyes, it’s an absolutely stunning machine – a design that, for some reason, the pictures simply do no justice! It’s clean and elegant, while being muscular and curvaceous at the same time. There’s a timelessness to the design, and I personally think it’ll age very well indeed.

 
 
 
 


<h2>So, what’s all the fuss about?</h2>

Well, the name is a dead giveaway – the car is pronounced Dodici Cilindri, which literally translates to 12 cylinders in Italian. The engine was so important to this machine – so central to Ferrari in fact – that they decided to name this car after its engine configuration. You see, across the industry, engines are either being downsized and turbocharged or hybridised, or both, so the idea of a naturally aspirated V12 is not just truly alluring but also incredibly courageous from the Prancing Horse. <img src="https://images.autox.com/uploads/2025/03/1741784948629-7w76-Ferrari-12Cilindri-Spider-Rear-View.webp" alt="Ferrari 12Cilindri Spider-Rear-View.jpg" style="width: 100%; height: auto;">Now that’s not to say that Ferrari hasn’t also gone down the turbo and hybrid route already – in fact, with its performance flagship, the SF90, it’s attached a pair of turbos to a V8, not to mention added a battery pack and a set of motors to give it 1,000 horsepower and all-wheel drive. Meanwhile, in the achingly beautiful and spectacularly fast 296, it’s even gone down the V6 route (which is also turbocharged and hybridised) for the first time since the Dino in the 60s. And, of course, it’s also heading down the EV route, with its first all-electric supercar that will be revealed later this year.But Ferrari also wants to retain the essence of its GT cars from the 50s and 60s, which is where the 12Cilindri comes in. And so, this successor to the 812 Superfast gave up its ultimate performance throne to the SF90 and instead embraced its GT roots to make the most of the V12 under the bonnet – which can be both incredibly refined but also insanely explosive, depending on what you do with your right foot.

 
 
 
 


<h2>So, what’s under the hood?</h2>

Now, we’ve been over the specs before, but it bears repeating – it’s a 6.5-litre V12 that produces a scarcely believable 128bhp per litre for a total power output of 818bhp at 9,250rpm and 678Nm at 7,250rpm. It redlines at, brace yourself, 9,500rpm, and it’s so incredibly smooth, plus it revs so fast thanks to its titanium conrods, that you can get up to the redline and not even know it unless you’re looking at the digital tach on the instrument cluster.<img src="https://images.autox.com/uploads/2025/03/1741784971851-vk7o-Ferrari-12Cilindri-Spider-1.webp" alt="Ferrari 12Cilindri Spider-1.jpg" style="width: 100%; height: auto;">Yes, it reaches 100km/h in 2.9 seconds and 200km/h in 7.9 seconds from a standstill, but it also has a cabin outfitted with the finest handstitched Italian leather and all the tech you can possibly imagine. It gets three displays – one for the instrument cluster, one for the central screen, where you can connect your phone, and the third is a passenger screen integrated into the dash, so your unsuspecting co-driver can keep an eye on the revs as he or she hangs on for dear life.
 
 
 


Of course, in true Ferrari fashion, it’s got massive gear shift paddles mounted to the steering column – as opposed to onto the steering wheel – which is just how I like them because you always know where they are. The steering wheel has wiper controls and indicator buttons, as well the famous Manettino switch, which you use to control the driving modes. But it also has a very innocuous button on a panel off to one side of the steering wheel that’s marked HELE, which stands for ‘High Emotion, Low Emission.’ That’s Ferrari-speak for the Auto Start-Stop button. Most cars would have an ‘A’ inside a circle, but that just wouldn’t do on a Ferrari. But the thing is that it’s not contrived in the cabin of this car. It’s simply a result of the Ferrari mindset of passion and precision. Of course, they strive for absolute performance and aim for perfection, but at the heart of every decision is emotion – the emotion it evokes when you interact with the machine. And you get a sense of that ethos from everyone who works at Maranello, regardless of whether that person is in his or her first week or a veteran who’s been there for decades.
 
 
 
<h2>So, what’s it like from behind the wheel?</h2>

Well, I would love to tell you that I spent my time in the 12Cilindri Spider bouncing off the 9,500rpm rev limiter, but in fact we were met with a torrential downpour that felt less like Southern Europe and more like South Mumbai in the monsoon. But what these conditions did was usher in a complete revelation in terms of just what this Ferrari GT is capable of.

You would imagine that an 800+ horsepower rear drive beast would be a terrifying experience in the pouring rain – especially on the tight and twisting coastal roads of Portugal, but in in truth, with the Manettino set to ‘Wet,’ it was almost as docile as a Fiat Panda. But the minute you bury your right foot into the carpet, it quickly turns into a thoroughbred stallion – but never a bucking Bronco. You can see the traction control button flashing away on the dash as you try and overwhelm the rear tyres, but the electronics are so well calibrated that it modulates the power perfectly to match the prevailing levels of grip. Sure, you can always get in over your head with that much power on tap but show a little restraint and the 12Cilindri will humour and entertain you in equal measure.<img src="https://images.autox.com/uploads/2025/03/1741785017763-ioei-Ferrari-12Cilindri-Spider-Rear-Three-Quarter.webp" alt="Ferrari 12Cilindri Spider-Rear-Three-Quarter.jpg" style="width: 100%; height: auto;">Of course, any opportunity I got between the near incessant showers, I dropped the top to hear that V12 howl. Sure, it’s slightly muted because of a pair of catalytic convertors and petrol particulate filters, but in ‘Race’ mode, with the flaps in the exhaust open, it’s enough to make your hair stand on end and send chills down your spine. But, really, what stands out in this car is its sheer poise and balance. No one does cohesion quite like Ferrari. Sure, a lot of manufacturers do power and speed quite well, but no one does it with this much style and finesse.<img src="https://images.autox.com/uploads/2025/03/1741785044538-hxid-Ferrari-12Cilindri-Spider-Side-Profile.webp" alt="Ferrari 12Cilindri Spider-Side-Profile.jpg" style="width: 100%; height: auto;">

 
 


So, what you’re getting in the 12Cilindri is a level of performance &amp; style mated to a versatility &amp; usability that’s simply unmatched. You get bragging rights and the ultimate tech of course, but what really sets this machine apart is its breadth of capability, which is in a league of one. This really is a car that you can drive cross-country to your favourite racetrack, have a blast at the limit, and then drive home again at breakneck speed – in true GT fashion.

Job well done Ferrari! Thank you for flying the V12 flag – may you continue to do so for a long time to come…

Ferrari 12Cilindri Spider First Drive Review: Versatility in Verde

We drove a naturally-aspirated V12, convertible Ferrari offering maximum involvement but a torrential downpour threatened to spoil the party.

We were quite eager to&nbsp;get our hands on this bike since it was first teased at&nbsp;<a href="https://www.autox.com/news/bike-news/eicma-2024-top-india-bound-motorcycles-to-watch-out-for-118832/">EICMA</a>. The <a href="https://www.autox.com/reviews/bike-reviews/ktm-390-adventure-review-first-ride-107195/">old 390 Adventure</a> was a blast, don't get me wrong, but it had its quirks, especially when pushed off-road. After spending six months commuting on the Royal Enfield Himalayan, I was curious to see how this new KTM stacked up. Well, we recently had the opportunity to thoroughly ride and test it, and let me tell you that it's a significant leap forward. This isn't just a refresh; it's a full-fledged evolution.<div style="width: 100%; height: auto;" class="post-image">

 <h2>KTM 390 Adventure First Ride Review: Design and Quality </h2>Let's talk about the design first. It's definitely going to spark debate, but personally, I like it. That rugged rally-inspired Dakar vibe works in its favour. The 21-inch front and
17-inch rear spoke wheels with tubeless Apollo Tramplr tyres are a huge plus.
The WP Apex suspension is another standout upgrade, offering a noticeably more
compliant and capable ride. An India-specific tweak – the offset rear monoshock
– lowers the seat height to 830mm in the Adventure variant and 825mm in the
Adventure X. On top of that, ground clearance has been increased to a solid
237mm, addressing a major concern from the previous model.<img src="https://images.autox.com/uploads/2025/02/1740405472650-uxpi-KTM-390-Adventure-Web-13.webp" alt="KTM 390 Adventure Web 13.jpg" style="width: 100%; height: auto;">
 The pigmented body panels are a nice touch, promising better scratch resistance since they're painted during the moulding process itself. And the standard kit – knuckle guards, engine guard, and bash plate – is quite useful for off-road scrapes. The forged foot levers feel solid, and you can remove the rubber inserts for better grip while riding&nbsp;in the dirt. My only gripe? The flimsy all-plastic knuckle guards&nbsp;–&nbsp;they would have been much better with metal reinforcements.&nbsp;<img src="https://images.autox.com/uploads/2025/02/1740405792534-0shu-KTM-390-Adventure-Web-7.webp" alt="KTM 390 Adventure Web 7.jpg" style="width: 100%; height: auto;">The new bespoke ADV tubular trellis subframe – KTM claims
that it’s 10% more rigid – feels solid and enhances the bike’s overall
stability. Despite the weight dropping to 183kgs, the 14.5-litre fuel tank
remains unchanged. The overall fit and finish are excellent, offering a premium
feel throughout. The 5-inch bonded TFT screen, borrowed from the new 390 Duke,
is crisp, clear, and easily readable even in bright sunlight. <h2>KTM 390 Adventure First Ride Review: Ergonomics and Features </h2>The riding position is comfortable and upright – perfect for
long days in the saddle. The new KTM 390 Adventure feels large when you're off
it but seems to shrink around you once you get on and start moving. The
controls are intuitive, and the switchgear is easy to reach. Cruise control is
a welcome addition for highway stints, and the ride modes – Rain, Street, and
Off-Road – are simple to toggle through. A big plus is that ride mode settings
remain unchanged even after switching off the ignition – a thoughtful touch
indeed!
Phone connectivity and navigation feel slick, and the
voice-activated calling is a nice convenience. Unlike the Duke 390, which can
only receive calls, the 390 Adventure allows you to make calls directly from
the bike. Finally, the electronics suite – which includes cornering ABS,
switchable cornering traction control, Quickshifter+, and customizable ride

The LC4c
399cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine is noticeably smoother, thanks to
the 5mm offset crank. It delivers better low-end grunt than the previous model
but still loves to be revved. Peak power kicks in 1,000rpm sooner, making it
more accessible.
That said, there’s still a noticeable lag before the bike
starts moving. I noticed that it stalled a couple of times when
setting off from a standstill off-road, but far less frequently than the old

seconds and 0 – 100 km/h in 6.2 seconds – both quicker than the previous
generation model. The improved mid-range power is quite evident, delivering
faster 30 – 70 km/h roll-on acceleration.
Cruise control, which activates above 20 km/h, performs well
on the highway, especially when paired with Quickshifter+, making for a smooth

curved radiator and reprofiled shrouds that divert hot air away from the rider
– a definite and noticeable upgrade. The underbelly exhaust, with its claimed
400mm water-wading capacity, handles water crossings with ease, even when the
water level reaches the engine guards.<img src="https://images.autox.com/uploads/2025/02/1740406032170-z2yg-KTM-390-Adventure-Web-3.webp" alt="KTM 390 Adventure Web 3.jpg" style="width: 100%; height: auto;">The WP Apex suspension has received a significant upgrade,
offering a much more compliant ride, as it effortlessly absorbs bumps and rough
terrain. The adjustable open-cartridge system provides 30 steps of compression
and rebound adjustment at the front, 20 steps at the rear, and 10 steps of
preload adjustment at the rear, allowing for fine-tuning across various riding
conditions.
While the increased suspension travel is a welcome
improvement, I did notice the front forks bottoming out a couple of times
during intense off-road testing – enough to throw me off the line slightly. That
said, it’s a fair trade-off for the bike’s sharp on-road dynamics and a huge
improvement over the previous model’s overly stiff setup, which was a common

 Off-road, the bike feels light, balanced, and predictable in
technical sections. Compared to the Himalayan, it’s noticeably sharper and more
responsive. The Apollo Tramplr tyres performed decently across varied on- and
off-road conditions. However, since we didn’t lower the tyre pressure when
going off-road, the front end lacked a bit of bite.
The brakes – a 320mm floating disc with a twin-piston calliper
up front and a 240mm rear disc with a single-piston calliper – are strong and

The wait is over. The 2025 KTM 390 Adventure is here, and it's a game-changer. We rode it, pushing it to its limits, and here's our honest take.

Ather introduced their revolutionary Magic Twist regenerative braking system with the 450 Apex, a limited edition model. Then they brought traction control with the Rizta and now, you get the best of both worlds with the updated 450X…and also the new Apex. I got a chance to test out the Magic Twist and the updated traction control system on the new scooter at a go-kart track and even on some off-road patches. So, how good is the 450X now?

<h2>2025 Ather 450X Review: New Modes and Regen</h2>

The first thing I want to highlight is the multi-level traction control system. While the Rizta had a simpler on-and-off toggle, the new 450 scooters get multiple levels — Rain, Road and Rally. You can also completely switch it off if you want. As one would expect, the traction control system is the most active when you select Rain while Road is meant for daily usage.

In the Rally mode, the traction control is a lot more lenient and it allows you to kick up some dirt. We tested the modes on some loose sand and it worked really well. There is an appreciable difference when testing the scooter in extreme conditions. While the 450X, does not really need a traction control system, it is good to see it nonetheless.

The 450X still gets the same 8.4bhp motor that is capable of producing 26Nm. It is still just as fun to ride and just as responsive too. Ather has introduced a new set of tyres from MRF&nbsp;with the updated scooters. These tyres have been developed specially for the 450 and are meant to offer more range while not compromising grip. And I must say, that I hardly noticed any issue with the grip from the new rubber. Combined with the new regen braking, this setup is claimed to substantially increase the real-world range of the scooter. As per Ather, the TruRange of the 3.7kWh model has gone up from 105km to 130km. That is a healthy boost and we will be eager to test it out when we have the scooter for a longer time.

What I do feel is a missed opportunity is that there is still no ABS. I think adding ABS over traction control would have been more useful. I did find myself locking the brakes a couple of times when on the track. While you may argue that people ride more gently on the road, let me remind you that the conditions out there can be rather unpredictable. Also, now that the 450X supports traction control modes and regen levels along with ride modes, I think that Ather should display them on the screen as well. This would help the rider in knowing what levels of various settings the scooter is in, rather than having to dig deep into menus.

<h2>2025 Ather 450X Review: Colour Options and UI Updates</h2>

Ather has not changed any aspect of the scooter’s design so it remains the same as before. There are, however, two new colour options available now - Hyper Sand and Stealth Blue. I particularly like the Hyper Sand colour options as it has a nice finish and looks rather refreshing. As a bonus, if you get this colour option, you will not have to worry about the scooter looking dirty because of the shade.

The new 450 scooters also get Atherstack 6 as part of the software suite. The instrument cluster is the same touch unit and is packed with features. However, the response is still lethargic when you use the map screen. There are noticeable stutters while you pan around. I also noticed that while most of the interface operation is smooth, there are the occasional hiccups and moments when the screen does not react as quickly.

<h2>2025 Ather 450X Review: Is it better?</h2>

Altogether, the 450X remains a smart and fast scooter that is more feature-rich than ever before. I feel the Magic Twist is a great addition and one that will find a lot of daily use. The traction control might be less useful but is a good safety feature still.

As for the pricing, it has gone up ever so slightly by Rs 6,400 for the base 450X and Rs 2,000 for the 450X with the bigger 3.7kWh battery pack.

Similarly, the 450 Apex has also seen a mere increase of Rs 5,001 on the effective ex-showroom price in Bengaluru. And Ather is throwing in the Halo helmet with the Apex to make it more lucrative. Altogether, despite the price hike, the scooters remain smart and safe options to pick if you are looking for an EV in this segment.
