X1 Racing League: Mumbai Falcons and Bangalore Racing Stars end Round 1 on a high note

Team Bangalore Racing Stars (BRS) seemed to be in top form on Day 2 of Round 1 as they yet again topped the qualifying session, with car #18 (Arjun Maini and Oliver Webb) taking away the pole position from Mumbai Falcons' car #1 (Kush Maini and Mikkel Jensen).

If Day 1 belonged to Bangalore Racing Stars (BRS), the final day of Round 1 of the X1 Racing League was dominated by both Mumbai Falcons and BRS as they secured a victory each in the two races of the day.

However, it was the latter that undid their streak bad of luck of the previous day as they emerged victorious in Race 3 on the final day. This did not mean a total let down for BRS though, as the team secured a spot on the podium in Race 3 and ended the round with a bang by winning the final Race 4.

While Race 3 followed the conventional format as the previous day, Race 4 saw the format change to a relay-based event, with each team allowed to send only one car on the track. This meant only six cars would compete in Race 4. Another mandatory requirement in Race 4 was that all five racers of each team had to race. While the conventional relay format was in effect, the second driver set off from the pits in the second car, while the incoming car was set up for the next driver. Likewise, the proceedings would continue for 40 minutes, as opposed to the 30-minute duration of the regular races.

As Race 3 started, the fight for the top three spots was among the polesitter duo of BRS, followed by Mumbai Falcons and DG Racing Ahmedabad. An incident-free race kept the safety car in the pits but Mumbai Falcons' car #1 (Kush Maini and Mikkel Jensen) emerged on top and won the race. Behind Mumbai, BRS' Arjun Maini and Oliver Webb followed them in P2. DG Racing Ahmedabad's Krishnaraaj Mahadik and Rahel Frey (Car #54) also put up a good show as they started and ended the race in P3.

If Race 3 witnessed incident-free proceedings, Race 4's relay format seemed to have challenged the teams to the core. With plenty of drama during the race, the race came to an end with BRS securing the top spot. Falcons' car #1 (Kush Maini and Mikkel Jensen) had started the race from pole but finished behind BRS by a hair's width. NK Racing Chennai ended their podium drought by securing P3 in the final race. DG Racing Ahmedabad and Blackbirds Hyderabad (who had started Race 4 from P3 and P2, respectively) suffered a DNF in the final race.

It's also worth mentioning that BRS and NK Racing Chennai were handed penalties for skipping the mandatory post-race car weighing. However, the post-race penalty is likely to affect the teams in the next round and not their current Race 4 classification. Based on the race results of Round 1, team Bangalore Racing Stars (BRS) are on top of the leaderboard, closely followed by Mumbai Falcons in second.

The next and final round of the inaugural X1 Racing League is set to take place at the Madras Motor Race Track in Chennai, from 7-8th December 2019.
