After the best Friday Hamilton had yesterday, Vettel burst on to the party today morning and took Mercedes by storm. Vettel grabbed pole position at the F1 Korean Grand Prix . That's Vettel's second pole position in Korea, sixth of the season and 42nd of his career.
As Q1 got underway, it was Kimi Raikkonen who put in the fastest lap time while the usual suspects Valtteri Bottas, Pastor Maldonado, Charles Pic, Giedo van der Garde, Jules Bianchi and Max Chilton were knocked out.
Q2 saw the ouster of both drivers of Force India; Sutil and Di Resta and McLaren drivers Jenson Button and Sergio Perez. Hamilton on the other hand was looking good for pole as he posted a time of 1:37.824, but Vettel came right back and snatched the lead by posting a time of 1:37.569.
Q3 saw Vettel, Hamilton, Webber, Hulkenberg, Alonso, Rosberg, Grosjean, Raikkonen, Massa and Gutierrez fight it out for the top spot. Both the Red Bull drivers were out on the circuit early and Webber posted a time of 1:37.464 followed by Vettel whose time was 1:37.202. It came down to the wire as it usually does and though Vettel was all geared up for another round, the German backed out of his final run after getting the message that no one was going to beat him.
It all came down to, as it usually does, the final moments, as the chequered flag was drawn out. Hamilton crossed the line and could manage 1:37.420 to come in second fastest while Webber held on to third spot. But the Australian F1 driver will start in 13th place due to the 10-place grid penalty levied upon him.
The revised grid is as follows:
1) Vettel 2) Hamilton 3) Grosjean 4) Rosberg 5) Alonso 6) Massa 7) Hulkenberg 8) Gutierrez 9) Raikkonen 10) Perez 11) Button
12) Ricciardo 13) Webber 14) Sutil 15) Di Resta 16) Vergne 17) Bottas 18) Maldonado 19) Pic 20) Van der Garde 21) Bianchi 22) Chilton
Will Vettel do another Gangnam dance for us tomorrow? We'll keep you posted. Stay tuned!
