Shahan Ali Mohsin has won the third round of the Asia Max Karting Championship at the Elite Speedway in Malaysia.

The 11-year old boy from Agra, Shahan Ali Mohsin has finished first in the Round 3 of the Asian Karting Championship, held at the Elite Speedway in Malaysia. Shahan drives for the Top Kart Asia team in the series.

The victory did not come easy, as Shahan suffered a major crash that left him with a sore neck and a damaged kart on Saturday. However, the reigning India National Micro Max Karting Champion still managed to finish on the podium at the end of round on Sunday.

Shahan said; “It was one of the most challenging weekends in my career – not only in terms of the race, but emotionally and physically as well and I am really glad our efforts paid off at the end”,

“It’s something that can compensate for every bit of hardship and the learning is immense from weekends like these when it is not all straightforward”, he added.

Shahan topped the time sheets in both practice sessions and also clichéd pole in qualifying, with the top five drivers covered by just four-tenths of a second in terms of lap times. Two heat races, followed by pre-final and final was what remained of the weekend as he was competing with drivers from Malaysia, Singpore, Thailand and China.

In the first heat race, Shahn lost time after he was pushed off the track by another driver. He wasn’t able to regain the lost time and settled for fourth place in the race. The second heat was here the Shahan was again squeezed off by another over-aggressive rival. The incident led the Indian’s kart with a hit at the rear, the impact dislodged his chain and left him to retire from the race.

On Sunday, Shahn was to start from the second half of the grid for the pre-finals. Shahan nailed the rolling start and climbed up the order through the course of the race. The Indian claimed third in the pre-finals despite the injury he sustained from the impact on Saturday.

In the final race, Shahan lost a position early on, but then on lap seven, he had push hard enough to get in the lead. Shahan had a major battle with Amer Harris during the race where the duo exchanged positions numerous times. Nearing the finish, Shahan managed to maintain a lead over Harris as he crossed the finish line by just 0.097 seconds.

With this victory, Shahan Ali Mohsin now leads the overall Asia Max Karting Championship in the Micro Max category.

In addition to his campaign in Asia, Shahan will continue to compete in the JK Tyre Rotax Max National Karting Championship in India, where he will defend his Micro Max Championship title.
