Shahan Ali Mohsin still leads the Asia Max Karting Championship despite a difficult round five at the Elite Speedway, Malaysia.

Despite a difficult weekend, Shahan Ali Mohsin has managed to hold on to his championship lead in the Asia Max Kartig Championship racing the Micro Max category. Shahan leads the Micro Max championship with one more round still to go.

The weekend got off to a difficult start for the 12-year-old driver from Agra as the team struggled with set up of Shahan’s kart. But the lack of top-end grunt left him struggling on the fast flowing track.

Shahan managed to get a decent lap in for his attempt in qualifying. Shahan found himself third on the grid as his lap time was 0.372 seconds of the pace set by the pole sitter.

Shahan finished fourth in both heat races as his lack of power from the engine played against him during the races. Sunday brought no relief for the young driver for the pre-final and final races. Shahan tried to gather as many points he possibly could to maintain his advantage in the championship with only one round left in the season.

In the pre-final, Shahan managed to finish fourth after race winner Amer Harris was disqualified for a technical infringement. Fifth place was the best Shahan could secure in the final race to conclude the weekend. Shahan now leads the championship with a five-point advantage over Hayden Haikal from Malaysia the Micro Max championship.

The final round of the Asia Max Karting Championship will be held at the Sepang, Malaysia in September 2016.
