Nayan Chatterjee has claimed his maiden MRF National Racing Championship F1600 win at the Buddh International Circuit in the final race of round 1.
In a full on duel for the win, Nayan Chatterjee and Anindith Reddy battled it out till the very end in the final race of the inaugural round of the F1600 championship on Sunday.
Chatterjee, Reddy and Race 1 winner, Ananth Shanmugam were quickly able to get ahead of Alex Bora, who started from pole on the reverse grid. A mistake from Shamugam dropped him down the order, leaving the battle at the front for the victory between Reddy and Chatterjee.During the length of the race, both drivers numerously traded positions, but Chatterjee was always able to take the lead back on Turn 16. On the sixth lap of the race, Reddy running wide led to the end of the battle as Chatterjee extended his lead and win the race by a significant margin of over 3 seconds over Reddy.
With Reddy finishing second, Sanhmugam recovered from his mistake from the start of the race and managed to finish on the podium in third. Anshul Shah finished fourth ahead of Bora and Arya Singh in fifth and sixth respectively.
The next five rounds of the season will be held at the Madras Motor Race Track, in Chennai with round 2 scheduled for February 17-19.
