Marc Marquez broke the record for most Grand Prix wins in a MotoGP season with a dominant display from fifth on the grid at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit in Valencia. The previous record of 12 wins was set by Australian Mick Doohan in 1997 when only 15 races were held only year all long - as opposed to 18 this season.

Marquez made his way up the grid and was up into P1 by lap 11, from where he pulled away from the grid in exemplary fashion, taking the chequered flag by over three seconds.

Valentino Rossi took second spot on the podium and secured the same place in the MotoGP standings after Yamaha teammate Jorge Lorenzo switched to the wet set up bike when rain fell at the 4.0 km track.

The gamble heavily backfired and he retired from the race with six laps to go. Andrea Iannone, who led the first third of the race, potentially lost a race win by taking the same gamble. He finished dead last in 22nd.

With two top riders out of contention, Dani Pedrosa took took third place to complete a double finish for Honda.

MOTO2: LUTHI TAKES SURPRISE WIN AFTER RABAT SLOWS DOWN ON FINAL CORNER

Interwetten Sitag’s Thomas Luhti took a surprise victory in the final round of the Moto2 season after newly crowned champion Esteve Rabat slowed down on the start/finish straight due to fuel shortage, allowing the Swiss driver to take his first win of the season.

The two drivers were in class of their own at the front of the field and finished 10 seconds ahead of third place finisher - Caterham’s Johann Zarco. It was Zarco’s fourth podium finish in five races.

MOTO3: MARQUEZ CROWNED CHAMPION WITH THIRD PLACE FINISH

Alex Marquez, younger brother of double MotoGP world champion Marc, took the Moto3 crown with a third place finish at Ricardo Tormo Circuit in Valencia.

The race was won by Australia’s Jack Miller who did everything he could to seal the title, beating Isaac Vinales by just 0.155s on the line. But with Marquez finishing on the podium, he lost the championship by the two points to the Spaniard.

Marquez will graduate to Moto2 next season with Marc VDS - the team with which Tito Rabat took this year’s world championship.
