MotoGP: Kazakhstan Round Postponed Indefinitely Due to Extreme Flooding
Dorna Sports initially planned to hold MotoGP in Kazakhstan at the new Sokol International Racetrack near Almaty last year on June 14-16. No new date has been confirmed yet for this year's event, though efforts are underway to organize it.
The much-anticipated Kazakhstan Grand Prix, the newest addition to the 2024 MotoGP lineup, has hit a roadblock. Extreme floods in Central Asia have caused MotoGP organisers to postpone the race. Originally scheduled for June 14-16 at the Sokol International Racecourse close to Almaty, the Grand Prix now has a later date on the calendar. However, the precise date is still unknown due to the region's ongoing national crisis. There is a clear hole in the MotoGP calendar as a result of this postponement, particularly after the Italian Grand Prix at Mugello. Moving the race poses significant logistical challenges and unknowns in the latter half of 2024. Even more complicated is the fact that this is a debut event and negotiating customs and logistics complexities.

MotoGP 2024: About Sokol International Racetrack
The Sokol International Circuit, boasting a length of 4.495km, was designed by Hermann Tilke. With Kazakhstan out of MotoGP's original calendar position, there are two big holes. The series now has a shorter schedule, with just three rounds planned starting the last weekend in June. In the original schedule announcement, MotoGP said Hungary's Balaton Park would act as a reserve venue, subject to homologation.
