Francesco Bagnaia dominated the 2024 Japanese MotoGP, winning the sprint race and grand prix to cut Jorge Martin's championship lead to just ten points. Starting from the pole, Bagnaia took the lead at Turn 1 and stayed ahead. Martin put up a strong fight, climbing from eleventh place, but Bagnaia kept calm and secured his eighth Grand Prix win of the season. Marc Marquez finished third after battling with Enea Bastianini. The race saw several incidents, including Pedro Acosta crashing out from second place and Alex Marquez colliding with Joan Mir on the first lap, causing both to retire. Takaaki Nakagami finished in the points in his final home grand prix, choosing a different tyre strategy. Miguel Oliveira missed the race due to injury.
