This weekend in Mugello, Italy, the 2023 MotoGP championship resumes. There have been several memorable races at Mugello. In 1976, Mugello played home to its inaugural MotoGP race. In a race that lasted over 62 minutes, Barry Sheene beat off Phil Read by a just 0.1 seconds to win the race. The Mugello circuit hasn't altered much since 1976, and its official length of 5.245km hasn't changed either. To date, Yamaha has won eight races at Mugello throughout the four-stroke MotoGPTM era, including five straight from 2004 to 2008 and two more with Lorenzo in the previous three years. Francesco Bagnaia, riding for Ducati, currently holds 94 points and the lead in the 2023 championship. Marco Bezzecchi, riding for the VR46 team, remains in second position in the championship, one point behind the Ducati rider.
