MotoGP: Ducati Signs Spanish Moto2 Sensation Fermin Aldeguer for 2025 Season
The highly anticipated signing of Fermin Aldeguer was officially announced on Monday by Ducati ahead of the MotoGP race weekend at Portugal's Portimao track.
Ducati has formally announced the signing of a contractual agreement with Moto2 sensation Fermin Aldeguer, which will allow the Spanish rider to commence his MotoGP career in 2025. Ducati has signed an agreement allowing Aldeguer to operate their factory machinery beginning in the year 2025. Although there is widespread anticipation that he will join Pramac, Ducati's official statement does not explicitly specify the team where the 18-year-old will be assigned. Aldeguer has consistently been recognised as one of the most promising talents in the racing circuit for the past few years. He achieved five Grand Prix victories for Speed Up in Moto2 last season, resulting in a notable third-place finish in the championship standings.
There has been widespread speculation about his potential transition to MotoGP in 2025, particularly due to his impressive performances. Despite being associated with multiple MotoGP teams, including Honda, for the 2024 season, Aldeguer chose to honour his contract with Speed Up in Moto2. Nevertheless, Aldeguer's outstanding performance in the latter half of 2023, coupled with his consistent display of talent, rendered his promotion to MotoGP in 2025 almost inevitable. Ducati's announcement unveiled that Aldeguer's elevation to the premier class comes with a two-year contract, with the potential for extension for an additional two years. This revelation came shortly after the Italian brand secured Francesco Bagnaia's services until 2026 in a new contract.
Ducati Corse General Manager Luigi Dall’Igna said: "I would like to welcome Fermín to the Ducati family warmly, and we can't wait to see him riding our Desmosedici GP. I am thrilled with this agreement because Aldeguer is one of the strongest riders in the new generation of MotoGP. Over the last few years, we have followed his evolution; during the last season, he showed incredible speed. He is a very young guy with the potential and characteristics to do well, and we will give him all the technical support to help him grow."
Fermin Aldeguer said: "I'm ecstatic to have this opportunity; thanks to Ducati, I'll realise the dream I've pursued since childhood. The time has arrived to take the big leap and compete with the world's finest riders, and what's more, I'll be doing it with the best bike on the grid. I want to express my gratitude to Ducati, especially to Gigi Dall'Igna, for their faith in me from the beginning of our discussions. I extend my thanks to Luca Boscoscuro for everything we've shared and for what lies ahead of us this year. I'm also grateful to my family, my manager, Héctor Faubel, and everyone who, in one way or another, has contributed to my journey here. Now that I know what the future holds, it's time to focus solely on this season, where I face a significant challenge in Moto2. I'll give my all to leave this category with my head held high, aiming for the best possible results before embarking on the new adventure in MotoGP."
