MotoGP: Aprilia’s Jorge Martin to Miss Argentina GP Too
Aprilia’s Massimo Rivola confirmed that Jorge Martin will miss the Thai and Argentina GPs, with his return unlikely before the third round of MotoGP 2025.

Jorge Martin’s Aprilia debut has been derailed by injuries before the season even begins. The reigning MotoGP champion crashed on the first day of Sepang testing, requiring surgery and missing the entire pre-season. While recovering, he suffered another setback, injuring his left hand during training and undergoing another operation. Aprilia MotoGP Chief Massimo Rivola has now confirmed that these injuries will keep Martin out of both the Thai GP and Argentine GPs, with his return unlikely before the third round of the 2025 season. This means his RS-GP debut will likely happen at the US Grand Prix in Austin on 30 March. Missing two races is a huge setback for both Martin and Aprilia, who had high hopes for their new signing. Now, the focus shifts to his recovery, as the team and fans wait for his highly anticipated first race.

In a post, the reigning world champion said: 'The blows are always hard, but when they hit repeatedly, the impact multiplies. This time they were particularly strong, both physically and mentally, and for the first time in my life, I miss the opening race of the season.
'The year is not starting as I would like. On Monday, while training for the first time after the crash in Sepang to be in the best possible condition for Thailand, I suffered a highside that caused four new fractures, in addition to the three I was already dealing with from two weeks ago.
'One thing I know for sure is that blows can be overcome. I don’t know if this will make me stronger, but I do know that I will push through, just as I always have. My only goal now is to recover 100% so I can get back to racing and enjoying my passion—motorcycles. Because there are many races, but only one hand.
'Thank you to Aprilia for supporting me at all times, to my family, to all my fans, and to everyone who encourages me every day. From the bottom of my heart.'
Jorge Martin will miss the 2025 MotoGP opener, the first reigning champion to do so since 1984. His switch to Aprilia was already tough, with just 90 laps on the RS-GP, and his injury delayed adaptation further. Limited testing leaves him and Aprilia facing a major setback.
Martin was set for Ducati’s factory team, but Marc Marquez’s decision forced a reshuffle. He instead signed a two-year Aprilia deal, taking the number one plate. Already expecting a tough season, his injury makes Aprilia’s start even harder.
