Marc Marquez will start the German grand prix from pole for Honda ahead of Hector Barbera of Avintia Racing and Valentino Rossi of Yamaha. Reigning champion Jorge Lorenzo crashed thrice in the session, barely making it to the Q2.

The MotoGP German GP qualifying saw Marquez take pole position yet again at the Sachsenring, making it his fourth premier class pole on the trot at the track. Marquez set a time of 1' 21.160 seconds to set the fastest time in the session.

Hector Barbera set the second fastest time in qualifying and will start with Marquez and Valentino Rossi on either side. Barbera will start from the front row for the second time in his career in the premier class. His first time was with Ducati, back in 2012 at the Italian GP.

Rossi will complete the front row of the grid for the German GP as the Italian rider was a whole second off the pace set by Marquez. Rossi faced traffic on his second run with fresh tyres which contributed to his gap to Marquez.

Danili Petrucci will start from fourth place after setting a time identical to Rossi. Petrucci will lead the second row ahead of Pol Espargaro and Maverick Viñales. Andrea Dovizioso, Aleix Espargaro, Andrea Iannone and Dani Pedrosa formed the rest of the top ten.

Lorenzo will start the German GP from out of the top 10 after his second crash of the day. Lorenzo went off at turn 1, and will start the race from the fourth row, in 11th on the grid. This was Lorenzo’s worst qualifying since he started 12th at the Dutch GP in 2013 after suffering a broken collarbone.
