Factory Honda racing's rookie sensation Marc Marquez took a crushing MotoGP win over his compatriot and teammate Dani Pedrosa at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sunday.
The Spaniard beat his compatriot and factory Yamaha's defending world champion Jorge Lorenzo by 3.495 and 5.704 seconds, respectively over the course of the 27 lap race.
Former seven-time MotoGP champion Valentino Rossi took a hard fought fourth place over Cal Crutchlow and Alvaro Bautista, albeit over 14 seconds behind Yamaha teammate Lorenzo.
The defending champion took the lead of the race at the start after polesitter Marquez made a poor start and fell to third, even behind Pedrosa.
However, the 20-year-old rookie bided his time and passed both Pedrosa and Lorenzo at around the same point of the 4.216 km long road circuit that was laid out in the infield section of the legendary speedway for Formula 1's return to America in 2000.
Marquez was dominant all weekend at Indianapolis after topping the times at all the practice sessions, qualifying as well as the raceday warm up session.
The Spaniard extended his championship lead over Pedrosa to 21 points with eight events left in the season.
Marquez is gunning to become the first rookie champion in the MotoGP class since America;s Kenny Roberts in 1978.
