Kartik Krishna, Jeffrey Kruger, Gaurav Mehta and Chittesh Mandody recorded wins on the final weekend of the JK Tyre Racing Championship and Volkswagen Motorsport India Polo R Cup at the Buddh International F1 circuit at Greater Noida, here today.

Kruger finished top of the points table in the Polo R Cup while Vishnu Prasad wrapped up the JK TYRE Racing India Series championship. The two joined Sarosh Hataria - who had wrapped up the LGB Formula 4 title yesterday - as 2013 season champions.

There was a safety car period in the JK Tyre Racing India Series and the LGB Formula 4 with a particularly scary crash in the first Polo R Cup race of the day causing the race to be red flagged. Three drivers were involved in a violent accident going into the penultimate corner of the Buddh International Circuit after one car went off the circuit and rejoined in the path of two following cars. All three drivers escaped without serious injury.

Holland's Sheila Verschuur triumphed in the all-female Ultima Queens Cup, where the drivers were piloting the previous generation, turbo-diesel, Volkswagen Polo Cup cars.

Verschuur was setting times fast enough to compete in the bottom half of the current generation Polo R Cup grid, despite the fact that the newer cars have 40 bhp more and are faster over a single lap.

JK TYRE RACING INDIA SERIES

Following his win on Saturday, Chittesh Mandody took victory in both races of the JK Tyre Racing India Series in the FB02 (former Formula BMW) car.

In both races he finished ahead of Vishnu Prasad and Arjun Maini who finished second and third, respectively in the first race of the day, respectively before swapping the last two podium places in the second race.

Prasad clinched the series title with his two podium finishes that came after a close tussle with sixteen-year-old Maini.

The two made contact going into the final corner of the final lap of the first race with Prasad going wide off the circuit before rejoining and finishing second, 0.139 seconds ahead of Maini.

Mandody won the second race with Maini finishing ahead of Prasad this time by just 0.309 seconds.

VOLKSWAGEN POLO R CUP

Gaurav Mehta won the opening Polo R Cup race of the day, which was red flagged following the three-car accident.

Mehta finished ahead of Kruger and Rahil Noorani.

It was Mehta's first win of the Polo R Cup season, and the only one of the three races in which Kruger did not top the podium.

Kruger rectified that in the second Polo R Cup race when he won ahead of Rahil Noorani and Karthik Tharani.

LGB FORMULA 4

Kartik Krishna won the sole LGB Formula 4 race of the day ahead of Vishnu Prasad and Rohit Khanna.

Sarosh Hataria had already wrapped up the title on Saturday and fought his way up the grid from tenth place, battling Prasad and Rayo Racing's Ameya Bafna along the way.

The category once again saw the closest racing throughout the weekend with as many as five drivers going into the turn four hairpin at the end of the back straight.

The racing weekend was the final major domestic racing event to be held for 2013.
