This is Alfa Romeo’s third consecutive season with the two drivers. Raikkonen started his career with Sauber in 2001 and will commence his 19th Formula 1 season next year.
Alfa Romeo has announced that the team will continue with its current driver line-up – Kimi Raikkonen and Antonio Giovinazzi – for the upcoming 2021 Formula 1 season. The duo has been with Alfa Romeo for two seasons now and will commence its third consecutive season next year.
Speaking about the contract renewal, Kimi Raikkonen said, 'Alfa Romeo Racing is more than a team to me, it is like a second family. So many of the faces that were around me when I made my Formula 1 debut in 2001 are still here and the unique atmosphere of this team is what gives me that extra motivation to keep going in what will be my 19th season in the sport, next year.'
Meanwhile, Antonio Giovinazzi commenced his Formula 1 career as a reserve driver for Sauber (now Alfa Romeo) and Ferrari, before securing a seat for the full season at Alfa Romeo last year.
The Alfa Romeo team finished the 2019 season in eighth-place and in the current championship too, the Swiss team stands at the same position. Alfa Romeo has only managed to secure five points in the championship so far. Raikkonen’s best finish this year was the 9th place he secured at the Tuscan Grand Prix in September. Giovinazzi, on the other hand, also managed to secure his season-best 9th place earlier in the year at the Australian Grand Prix.
