The second round of 2015 National Karting Championship concluded at Hyderabad’s recently built Chicane Circuit on Sunday, with Ricky Donison, Mrinal Chatterjee and Ruhaan Alva the winning drivers across three age-based categories.
After heavy showers in the first round of the championship and further drops of rain yesterday, drivers raced on a bone dry track for the first time this year.
In the Senior Max category, Ricky Donison took a dominant victory from pole position, replicating his pre-finals feat. Chittesh Mandody of Dark Don was the first runner up, while Rayo Racing’s defending championship Ameya Bafna came home in third place.
Rayo Racing enjoyed far better fortunes in the Micro Max category, locking out two of the three podium positions. Mrinal Chatterjee made a fantastic start from third on the grid to take the lead of the race, a position he retained until the chequered flag was dropped.
Behind Chatterjee, Mohammed Nalwalla passed Aanjan Patodi until Akash Gowda overtook both drivers to seal second.
“It feels great to win my maiden race in the National Championship. I have put in a lot of hard work on my fitness & the results are paying off. I hope to continue to do well” said an ecstatic Mrinal.
The Junior Max category saw Ruhaan Alva win the final race for BPC Racing, with Meco Racing duo of Shahan Mohsin & Arjun Nair filling the other two spots on the podium.
The third round of National Karting Championship is scheduled late in August, with further races set to be hosted in Bangalore.
