Narain Karthikeyan's (second from right in picture) rich vein of form in the AutoGP World Series continued as the 36-year-old former Formula 1 driver took his fourth win of the season at Donnington Park on Sunday along with pole position and a second place finish in the first of two races of the weekend.
Karthikeyan's victory in race two makes him the winningest driver in the AutoGP field this year.
With only two more races left to go in the final round of the season at Brno in the Czech Republic, Karthikeyan now lies fourth in the drivers' standings. He is four, ten and 21 points behind the third, second and first placed drivers, respectively.
Having finished second in the opening race of the weekend after starting on pole, Karthikeyan had started seventh for the second race of the weekend as per the reversed grid.
“It is definitely the most satisfying win of the season, to win by 13 seconds after starting seventh was amazing," said Karthikeyan. “I managed a good start but got squeezed onto the grass – however I kept it flat and passed [Sergio] Campana. He passed me back on the following lap but hit my front-left so I had some damage to the suspension.”
After a slow start to the season that yielded no podiums over the first six races, Karthikeyan has scored six podium finishes in the following eight races.
Karthikeyan was set to participate in his third straight season with the HRT F1 team before the Spanish outfit went under and was sold off.
An outside chance of an F1 drive emerged briefly with Marussia before Karthikeyan had to look elsewhere to keep his single seat racing career going. This led him to AutoGP, which was formerly known as the Italian Formula 3000 series and European Formula 3000 when it started in 1999.
