Vishnu Prasad, Karthik Tharani, Sudarshana Rao and Sarosh Hataria scored wins in the JK Racing India Series (JKRIS), Volkswagen Polo R Cup and LGB Formula 4 races, respectively on the opening day of round two of the 2014 JK Tyre Racing Championship from Coimbatore here today.

The circuit racing weekend also coincides with the second round of this year's Indian Rally Championship that saw the final stage of leg one - a super special stage - held at the Kari Motor Speedway where the three racing categories held their races.

JK RACING INDIA SERIES

In its second season of playing the role of the top billed racing series of the JK Tyre Racing Championship, the JKRIS continued to feature drivers who had stepped up from karting in order to get experience in a wings and slicks monocoque single seater.

The old warhorse of the series - the FB02 machine - saw a couple of familiar faces from seasons past behind the wheel as Armaan Ebrahim and Aditya Patel competed as guest drivers against the regular field in the series.

The intention being to give the lesser experienced drivers a chance to race against relatively seasoned hands who not only had previous experience racing the FB02 but also various other racing series and championships on an international level.

The defending JKRIS champion Vishnu Prasad took a lights to flag victory while Ebrahim charged up to second and Patel took 6th after the two started 12th and 11th, respectively.

Due to the two not being eligible to score points, however, the final classification had Ananth Shanmugam finishing over four seconds behind Prasad with Nayan Chatterjee taking third place just over four tenths of a second behind Shanmugam.

VOLKSWAGEN POLO R CUP

In a race that was beset with some confusion following a red flag causing the race to be restarted after ten of its 15 laps were completed, Karthik Tharani emerged victorious in the Volkswagen Polo R Cup ahead of Angad Matharoo who crossed the line behind Tharani on the road.

A 30 second post race penalty, however, meant that Matharoo - who took first and second in the two races of the previous round - was relegated to 11th, which elevated Anshulmanoj Shah to second and Karmander Pal Singh to third.

Yatin Magu was fourth and New Delhi's Lee Keshav took fifth place in the first of two races of the one-make, entry-level, touring car series.

LGB FORMULA 4

The two LGB F4 - out of a total of four - races that were held on the first day were contrasting affairs in that the first one was fairly uneventful and the winner was declared right as the chequered flag fell. The second, however, featured a safety car period, rain as well as confusion galore as the result was declared provisional following a protest against the winning driver.

Sudarshana Rao, Vishnu Prasad and Raghul Rangaswamy were the top three finishers in the relatively uneventful first race while Sarosh Hataria, Prasad and Diljith T were the podium finishers - and even took these places during the podium ceremony - in the second race.
