Jehan Daruvala has claimed his first ever win in the Formula Renault 2.0 NEC in Hungary and is the championship leader.
Jean Daruvala, of the Sahara Force India Academy, has won his first ever race in race two at the Hungaroring after Lando Norris, his team-mate retired from the lead. Jehan is now leading the Formula Renault 2.0 NEC Championship after round 3.
Jehan started the weekend with a poor qualifying for Race 1. Despite setting decent lap times, the officials deleted both of them for exceeding track limits. Jehan then started the first race from eight on the grid. The race right from the start was packed with incidents for Jehan, as he also spun out at one point which led him to finish 13th in the race.
In Race 2, Jehan started from second on the grid along side team-mate Lando Norris on pole. Both drivers got a good start and started pulling away from the field. On lap 4, Lando went off the track and crashed into the barriers which gave Jehan the lead. The safety car was summoned and when it pulled in, Jehan managed to still keep the lead ahead of his second team-mate, Robert Shwartzman. Jehan crossed the finish line to take his maiden victory in the series with a gap of 1.427 second over Shwartzman. Ferdinand Habsburg finished third only half a second behind him to claim the final podium spot.
Jehan now leads the championship after three rounds with a margin of five-points. The next round of the championship will take place in Monza, Italy from July 2 - 3 as part of the Formula Renault EuroCup Series.
