Last year when Hero MotoCorp confirmed their participation in the most grueling rally in world — Dakar Rally — along with CS Santosh, the first Indian to take part in this rally, this led to a media frenzy in India. Come 2017, the Hero MotoSports managed to get both their riders across the finish line for the South American adventure with Santosh finishing and Joaquim Rodrigues giving the newly formed team a dream debut in 10th overall.
However, Hero's in no mood to rest on past laurels as they revealed their ambitious plans to expand their motorsports calendar. Chairman, Managing Director and CEO, Hero MotoCorp, Pawan Munjal didn't mince words as he announced that Hero MotoSports have plans to take part in Moto3.
AutoX attended a press conference in Buenos Aires, where Munjal said, "They have plans to expand their motorsports calendar and will take part in Moto3." He further explained that Hero MotoSports are in talks and are making necessary preparations to take part in Moto3 in the near future.
Hero MotoCorp will be second Indian manufacturer to take part in Moto3 after Mahindra Racing. Moto3 is the entry level to premium motorcycle track racing championship. It is divided into three categories —MotoGP, Moto2 and Moto3. In Moto3 class, the motorcycles have to be powered by single-cylinder 250cc four-stroke engines. The minimum total weight for motorcycle and rider is 148kg and riders cannot be older than 28 years.
