Indian rally driver, Gaurav Gill has emerged victorious at the second round of the 2016 Asia Pacific Rally Championship season in the Rally of Queensland, Australia.
The 2016 Rally of Queensland was cut short due to the weather Gods being a little agitated. The organisers of the rally were forced to cancel the final four special stages following the overnight rains due to safety concerns on Sunday.
The change in the game played right into the hands of Gill who had already built up a substantial lead of 1 minute 59 seconds of his Team MRF Skoda R5 team-mate Fabian Kreim. Gill won a total of 13 sages during the rally which crowned him victorious.
Kreim finished second in Queensland making it a Skoda 1-2. His 2016 APRC campaign is his first season of gravel rallying as well. Mike Young, driving for Cusco EZY Racing Subaru Impreza claimed the final podium spot.
After two rounds of the 2016 APRC season concluded, Gaurav Gill and co-driver Glenn Macneall lead the overall championship with 38 points. Fabian Kreim and co-driver Frank Christian are in second overall with 31 points to their name. Micahel Young/Macolm Read are third 25 points in the championship.
The next round of the APRC is a new venue for 2016 at the China Rally, held in Zhangye, West China which sits near the Mongolian border. The rally is scheduled to be held from August 6-7.
