Bertrand replaces Dilbagh Gill, who departed from Mahindra Racing in September 2022 after a nine-year stint with the team.
Mahindra Racing has appointed Frédéric Bertrand as its new Chief Executive Officer. He will be carrying out his duties from the team headquarters located in Banbury, England, and will directly report to Asha Kharga, Chairperson of Mahindra Racing. In this role, Frédéric will lead Mahindra Racing, one of the founding outfits and the only Indian team to compete in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, which is embarking on its ninth season.
Sharing her views on his appointment, Kharga said, 'We are delighted to welcome Frédéric to Mahindra Racing. Frédéric brings with him an excellent combination of automobile industry expertise coupled with a specialized focus on motorsports. This is an exciting time, as we get into Season 9, which will feature the all-new Gen 3 car. This is also an especially important year for Mahindra as a founding Formula E team. For the first time in Formula E history, India will host its first race in Hyderabad in February 2023. We remain committed to our electric mobility agenda, which is a strong marker of our sustainability credentials.'
Earlier, Frédéric was professionally involved with the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) as Director of Formula E and Innovative Sport Projects. Almost a decade ago, he became the Head of the Federation’s Sporting Department. His role encompassed working on strategies and developments of a huge spectrum of disciplines, including but not confined to, single-seaters, truck racing, drag racing, touring cars, and alternative energy. After this, he got elected as the Director of FIA Circuit Championships – a position where he was assigned the responsibility of structuring as well as promoting the official FIA circuit racing series on a global arena.
