Jehan Daruvala improved on his eighth place finish in his debut single seater race yesterday by taking fourth position in the second Formula Renault 2.0 NEC race in Monza on Sunday.
Daruvala avoided the usual first chicane scrap but fell down to eighth place from his grid spot of sixth position. What followed was a race long battle with Alex Gill in which the 16-year-old held firm to cling on to seventh place.
He then took advantage of the late race tussle between Kevin Jorg, Callan O’Keeffe and Dennis Olsen to move up to fourth place and finish as the highest placed rookie.
At the front, Louis Deletraz took a relatively easy victory from pole position from Saturday’s race winner Ukyo Sasahara with series debutant Valentin Hasse-Clot completing the podium.
Jehan Daruvala's fourth place in race two made him the highest placed Fortec Motorsports driver among the six drivers fielded by the prolific team. This included Gill, whose race-long dice with the Indian finished with Daruvala finishing just under 0.7 seconds ahead.
The next round of Formula Renault 2.0 NEC championship is scheduled for May 23-24 at Britain's iconic Silverstone Circuit.
Daruvala left the opening round at Monza with 30 points to his name, 24 behind early series leader Sasahara.
