Force India protege Jehan Daruvala scored two sixth place finishes at the Spa round of Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup (NEC) this weekend.
Daruvala qualified in sixth place for the first race and retained his position over the course of 11 laps, while also keeping an active eye on ART’s Ukyo Sasahara in front.
The second race was stopped on fourth lap amid treacherous conditions, preventing the Fortec Motorsport driver to show some of his wet driving skills. With less than 50% of the race completed, half points were awarded to all drivers.
Daruvala arrived at Spa on the back of two pole positions and a podium finish in the sister Formula Renault 2.0 Alps series. The 16 year old hailing from Mumbai will next be seen in action at Netherlands' Assen Circuit on August 1 and 2.
Jehan Daruvala currently lies seventh overall in the NEC's championship standings and is third among the rookie drivers in the 38 car field. A third and fourth place in successive races at Austria's Red Bull Ring has been the highlight of Daruvala's maiden season in car racing. The pole positions scored as a guest driver Italy's Misano circuit were also his first times topping the timesheets in a car racing qualifying session.
A 16th and 15th place finish in the two races of the Silverstone round of the NEC are the only two occasions when Daruvala has failed to finish within the top ten whenever he has been classified as a finisher.
