In Formula E's season-opening race in Mexico City, Pascal Wehrlein was under investigation for a technical infraction, but he was able to defend his victory. Aside from defending champion Jake Dennis, the Porsche driver who dominated the 37-lap race at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez circuit—from starting on pole position to leading the race for most of its duration—was initially under investigation. An investigation was conducted into a "technical infraction" that pertained to "not respecting the homologated primary throttle pedal map."
The suspense about the race's conclusion grew as the investigation progressed. It was decided that Wehrlein and Dennis would face "no further action" after four hours of thorough examinations by the stewards. Despite extensive inquiries into a possible violation of Article 3.2.1, the official stewards' report found no evidence of such a violation.

In contrast to their rivals, Wehrlein and Porsche took a unique approach for the Mexico E-Prix race. In the early stages of the E-Prix, the race winner, Wehrlein, deliberately engaged both attack modes. His lead over Envision Racing's Sebastien Buemi widened when the winner of Season 2 slipped up while trying to close the gap with Pascal.

Formula E Mexico E-Prix: Jehan Daruvala
Jehan Daruvala, an Indian racer, had a dismal Formula E debut, finishing sixteenth at the Mexican E-Prix. The 25-year-old, who was the season's only rookie, had a solid qualifying session, finishing ninth in Group A with a time of 1m14.469s, just six-tenths behind leader Robin Frijns. However, this wasn't good enough to go to the Duels. Consequently, he lined himself seventeenth on the grid to begin the race.
Daruvala, who is competing with Maserati MSG Racing and is making the switch to electric racing after four years in Formula 2, managed to get up to fifteenth place at the first corner, showing some early improvement. He was up to seventeenth place at the conclusion of the first lap when he encountered problems. His teammate Maximilian Gunther, who qualified first in his group and was awarded the fifth starting position, went on to finish an outstanding fourth, gaining 12 important points for Maserati MSG Racing.
