Force India is one of the two teams that have filed a complaint with the European Union against the governance and revenue sharing structure of Formula 1.

The decision making power in Formula 1 lies with the Strategy Group that comprises of commercial rights holder Bernie Ecclestone (through FOM), governing body FIA and five permanent and one temporary team. The remaining outfits have no say in decision making and have increasingly grown frustrated with its functioning They believe the members of the Strategy Group are pre-occupied with their personal interests.

Similarly, F1’s revenue sharing structure is heavily skewed towards the CCB (Constructors Championship Bonus) teams, who receive guaranteed payments every year.

With the currents bilateral contracts with FOM running until 2020 and the finances of smaller teams showing no signs of improvements, Force India has asked EU to investigate the manner and pave way for a fairer distribution of revenue.

"Sahara Force India is one of two teams to have registered a complaint with the European Union questioning the governance of Formula 1 and showing that the system of dividing revenues and determining how Formula 1's rules are set is both unfair and unlawful. Due to the ongoing legal discussions, it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time,’’ a Force India statement read.
